Lol hilarious to see how quickly his body language changes as soon as Vine says he's going to play the tape. Brown gives a generic 'apologetic' response initially, not admitting that he said anything wrong, but the way he wriggled around on his chair when the conversation is played back is awkward...and hilarious! He knew there and then he was fucked. :D

The moment Brown lost Labour the 2010 election. Many working class voters walked away from Labour after that and have never returned. Have Labour learned anything since on unlimited immigration 11 years on ? No.

He was mic'ed up for the benefit of journalists and it was a private comment. Sadly, it demonstrated the disdain Labour felt towards anyone (she and her family were Labour supporters) who was concerned about Labour's unlimited immigration policy. That attitude lost them elections as the working class rejected their doctrine.

Gillian Duffy is one of many white working class citizens who traditionally voted Labour but was alienated by their rebranding in the 1990s to appeal to voters from 'Middle England' and poach them from the Tories. Their alienation from Labour and left-wing political parties more generally have made far-right parties such as UKIP and the BNP more attractive to the working class as their talk of leaving the EU, restricting migration, jobs for British citizens (the list is endless) offers the prospect of restoring the Britain of yesteryear where their voices were heard and their views were taken seriously by mainstream politicians. Indeed Brexit is fast being recognised as a protest vote from the British working class, which has been for so long been overshadowed by the multiculturalism of the hegemonic middle class.
The Britain of yesteryear was never coming back, materially or socially. Blair and Brown understood this. These white working class voters wanted a burdensome and bloated welfare state and protection for dying or dead industries.
It is not racist to say that immigration is out of control; it is simply a fact. Britain needs a five-year freeze on immigration and strict controls from then on. An annual cap, a regional points-based system which applies to EU migrants as well, the re-introduction of exit checks and a unicultural society with one law for all. Labour didn't do any of that, and neither will the coalition. UKIP will.

The BNP are largely supported by disaffected Labour voters. I would not be at all surprised to see a huge increase in the number of people voting for the BNP. I don't agree with the policies of the BNP, but I feel people should vote anything BUT Labour in this election.

Gordon Brown gives an honest opinion, showing passion for his views and gets slaughtered for it. He thought she was a 'bigoted woman' for saying there were 'too many Eastern Europeans in the UK'...which is a fair opinion.

Firstly lets go back to when he was chancellor. he scrapped the tax relief on pension dividends costing over £100 billion. He told the world he was going to sell our gold reserves, and the price dropped like a fly. I would suggest you watch a You Tube clip of the Euro MP Daniel Hannon at an EU conference of which Gordon Brown attended. There was no where for him to hide!
I don't mind him calling her a bigot, particularly. He's allowed his opinion the same as she is allowed to have hers. It's his worming out of it that makes me sick. I would never ever vote for the BNP, my conscience wouldn't allow for it- but Brown needs to recognize that mass immigration has to be dealt with. Through his eagerness to not appear racist, and so put some sort of limitations on the numbers, he has actually done more for the BNP than Nick Griffin ever dreamt of.

Why are UKIP racist ??????.Go and read their website. They have MP's from all ethnic backgrounds. Do you think that allowing unrestricted immigration of unskilled workers while we have high unemployment and a housing shortage is beneficial to this country ?. Labour's policy of mass uncontrolled immigration is actually more damaging to working classes voters than to traditional middle class Tory voters .
Jeremy Vine says to Gordon Brown, "is she not allowed to express her view". I would argue that Mr Brown is entitled to his view also. I think the comments he made were wrong, but I think it shows that he is more human than the Tory press and media would have us believe.

I have searched and searched and searched for what she actually said during that conversation. What exactly did she complain about Eastern Europeans? I have found nothing. @northwesten The BNP are not perfect. There should be no need for them really. My main concern is the irreversible damage to our wildlife caused by the baby boom by the third world immigrants. Its a very small country. Just look at our fish stocks? And how we now build on school playing fields to house folk.

Brown wasn't the great PM but there is a wider issue. Remember this happened in Rochdale! IF there was one area in Britain that we know now had an issues with politician's not wanting to know the consequences of how mass immigration is effecting Britons historic working class communities it Rochdale! He sold all out country's gold at $300 an ounce when even I knew it was going over $1000 and it did within 2 years of him selling it. Im not the countries top economist / accountant like he is supposed to be. He sold us out. That is just one example of his new world order agenda.

Its common sense that's all it is there just in denial. I propose a one year stop too all immigration until we get the unemployment rate down to under a million, and then impose the cap on immigration, that would be a regional points-based system that would also apply to EU migrants as well. Labour betrayed the British people for the EU.

But the woman was indeed a bigoted racist. She was blaming (like the BNP) foreign people coming here and taking all our jobs, when in actual fact the whole point of globilisation and foreign trade is so that people can freely travel to whichever country they wish to work in. The reason people are losing jobs in the UK has nothing to do with foreigners coming here, but rather the lack of investment in skills and training to send english people abroad TO WORK aswell (many already do).
David Clegg and Nick Cameron are happy because they want everyone to believe they never say anything different in private. The media went banana over the 'Prescott punch', but it just shows a human side and people think, 'that's what I would do'.
Immigration is a popular talking point where ever I go and it's nearly always portrayed in a very negative way. People have allowed themselves to be carried away on a wave of hysteria for far to long. The views of that woman were of unenlightened self-interest and yes, bigoted! This country has always enjoyed the benefits that come with immigration for centuries. I've never been a Labour supporter, but if I was, I'd be proud to have someone as worldly and intelligent as he lead your party.
