btw siinä oli kyl muutakin ku muna voita jotakin vihreetä. mä kyl haluisin nähdä gordon ramsay:n tekevän karjalan piirakoita saa nähä maistuuks miltää :D
membu Aivan!
Bro it's not about that, Finland is not a country with good food, let face it. Food is not a a thing in your culture, maybe you have other good things but food is not one of them.
@@zakariaelbaidi2018 bro, you are not a person with bitches, lets face it. Bitches are not a thing in your culture. Maybe you have a lot of dick but no bithes.
The reporters had the bright idea of serving Gordon Ramsay Finnish food they bought from the local supermarket that was either taken straight out of the packaging; or - if preparations were required - warmed in a microwave oven : /
I live in Finland and have eaten this stuff... I can confirm, he is correct! Although I do like a bit of mämmi, it's just malty mush, but it's an acquired taste!
Also I think that most of the people in finland now days don't like mämmi that much... Or at least I don't know too many people who actually likes that think that looks like shit at taste like rye bread
I really like all of those traditional Finnish dishes. I think it depends on what you're used to. These dishes indeed taste different when they're fresh and homemade. This industrial food shown on the show is a different story. What a pitty Mr. Ramsay didn't get to taste some fresh, simple Finnish fish and reindeer dishes served with healthy berries. We Finns don't have anything to be ashamed of. Our cuisine is still close to the nature.
@@Rihardololz not quite like it..finnish food is very plain and simple..except for mämmi and salmiakki most foods are mildly spiced with just pepper and salt..not much more..so they result too plain for many palat..karjalanpiirakka in my opinion it aint good gold, it become chewy but if warmed up is very good..as well leipäjuusto ja dont like it cold but melted with lakka is soo good...i still dont know why would finn eat it cold its like rubber...some traditional habits use to put it in hot coffee to make it soft but i would not like that so i melt in mikro....And im not a finn but italian who lives here.
Makes me so angry that they give him some convenience store crap. That is NOT traditional Finnish food. They should have taken him to some fine dining place + a lunch restaurant with simple, proper food.
Thomas K. No it isn't. Ready-made food from a store is not the same as handmade and fresh traditional food. Ramsay appreciates food that is made with love and care, and that junk in the video is definitely not it. And I agree, mämmi is garbage (although with cream and sugar it can be made edible), but it could be a single curiosity among other, tasty dishes like cold-smoked salmon, properly roasted game, mushroom soup, home-made rye-bread or pulla, more like the things Anthony Bourdain got to eat in 'No reservations'. And to the guy above, +b cookson, rotting fish is an Icelandic/Swedish thing, not ours. Please check your facts before hating.
Dynera I wasn't talking about where it was bought I was just saying that mämmi is traditional Finnish food. Ofc homemade is always the best to eat and tastes best. I agree with you on what you said but even if mämmi was handmade/homemade I doubt he would've liked it. It's just that some of our food ain't really what other countries would like. True fact.. :/
b cookson Have you been to Helsinki? Have you tried Leipäjuusto the way it is made at Lappi Ravintola in Helsinki? or maybe other dishes like Salmon soup, reindeer stew and mustikapiirakka cake from Kolme Kruunua in Helsinki? Have you tried Fried Herring at Kosmos in Helsinki? Korvapuusti? etc etc No, you haven't, so please shut up. I am not from Finland, but when I went there, I did my research to find the restaurants that serve the best prepared Finnish food and I was very impressed. Furthermore, pickled herring is delicious, whether as a salad with beetroot or with sourcream or just plain with potatoes and cottage cheese. If you do not enjoy it, I guess your palate is not developed enough for this delicacy. Not everyone appreciates oysters either.
I am an Australian and I think Finnish food is great. It's food that is cooked in a lot of homes by every day Finn's which I have a lot of respect for. They used ingredients they could get there hands on due to weather conditions and wars. Finnish people are warm and very respectful just little hard to crack the shyness. The funny thing is the Fin's couldn't give two f&*ks about Ramsay's opinion. Kiitos!
They seem pretty angry about it to me. We do have good food, but sadly they didn't give him any. It's not home cooked it's store bought pre-prepared junk. It's like they wanted to have this reaction out of him. Some of those traditional foods are not even that universally loved by Finns. He can be a jerk, but I think they did this on purpose.
Home cooked mämmi is no better than store bought the other two I'd agree with though store bought karelian pie is time consuming to make so I personally wouldn't. And to be honest home made maksalaatikko is disgusting to the degree where I wouldn't give it to my dog... Saarioinen all the way there.
I'm not finnish, not by far, I have tried Salmiakki, Mammi, Cloudberry squeaky cheese, blood cake soup, Karelian pie, salmon in cream, and basically all famous finnish food. I find finnish food extremely tasty. I absolutely adore Salmiakki and it's versions, especially salmiakki ice cream and chocolate. Karelian pie for breakfast? YUM!
Foxtrot1213 I think your dislike for Finland might be abit irrational. Or your Scandinavian girlfriend broke up with you, because that's pretty specific thing to mention on a video about food.
I made my friends eat mämmi and they said it was delicious just had a very very discusting aspect so I guess they guy tasts with his eyes and not his tongue and aroma palet in his mouth ... mämmi is very sweet and tasty with some orange extract ... and if he had Karjalanpirrakkat with boiled eggs in butter and said it was disguisting then honnestly I think he has no sens of taste ...
@@kohinarec6580 Yep many mistakes. Cheap industrial karelian pie that is already quite bad, not warming it up and not using butter or eggbutter with it. The perfect karelian pie should have almost crispy crust and are not filled with that much rice porridge. And you definitely should eat it warm with butter. I usually eate the leipäjuusto heated and with some rasberry jam. Cloudberry isn't that good imo, but it is more valued. But I bet the cloudberry jam was ultraprocessed shit.
I'm so glad you said that! Disliking something and telling it politely is one thing, spitting food out of your mouth in front of the person who gave it to you is another. People here in the comments are so busy telling each other to be cool about it, but they are mixing up two different things (or maybe they just go along with this kind of rudeness in their lives and therefore support Ramsay's approach, what do I know?).
+Molly Koo Unfortunately some of us live in a world with minimal moral guides and lots of unhealthy role models, it brought us to a point where we confuse even the simplest of things.
Traditional foods of nations that aren't historically the "pastures of plenty" are mostly for surviving, and not for delight. As a chef he really should know something as simple as that..
I don’t agree traditional foods that have been around for a long time should survive because they taste good. Not because of survival. Also tastes change over time and food changes accordingly.
i m not finnish however i feel offended by this Man attitude! he might be a known chief, condescension might be his commercial signature, it is still disrespectfull .. "do you eat this?" hé keeps saying and it's so annoying. he's abviously reluctant to give à Real try .
Well done. One of the best cooks in the world comes to Finland and they buy him some shitty store bought pastry and old cheese and some shitty frozen mämmi.
Yeah, thats what I was wondering as well. Just how stupid must one be to think that a chef like him would enjoy food that is straight out of a plastic fucking pag...
salwa Aj Yes! someone who understands gow rude Gordon was im happy that even somebody (not a finn) wound Gordons crappy talk rude u need a like for that Kiitos (can u spell that!) ☺
I'm just here to say that I've been learning finnish for some time now and I can understand most of the subtitles. I know theyre not saying anything complicated but this is a win for me lol.
+Acquavallo Ramsay is an internationally renowned chef. You think all he ever eats is fish and chips and marmite? Fucking idiot. Northern European food is universally disgusting. Is the word "traditional" comes before a dish on a menu it's a warning not to order said dish.
I don't know why pointing out a funny irony makes me an idiot. You seem to be the one generalizing a whole region, the 14 or so nations of northern Europe, just to insult someone.
Pre packaged food. Those things are actually quite good when home-made. Sorry about all these wining finns, feeling quite embarassed when reading these childish comments from people who can`t take a joke. During that same wisit to Finland Ramsay went to quite many finish restaurants and had been extremely happy with the foods that he had been served. Chillatkaa Suomalaiset, noi piirakathan oli aivan hirveitä :)
I'm Chinese and I really enjoyed Mämmi when the landlady introduced it to me. At one point my Indian flatmate and I eat it every afternoon. He takes pride in Indian food but loves Mämmi too.
My fellow Finns should remember that "traditional Finnish food" basically means "borderline edible stuff that does not rot too badly during our nine-month long winter". If something from those ingredients tastes good, it is probably a later iteration.
JoIsHere 13 I gave some salmiakki to a couple of my friends and they thought it was really bad... it was very amusing! I didn't realize that most people dislike salmiakki. haha
Musicians don't go into other cultures and insult their music. This is true for many forms of art, but I wonder why dining is excempt from this unwritten rule.
I feel like I'm the only foreigner that likes Mämmi . I used to eat it all the time in Kindergarten, we even traded toys so we could eat another kids portions.
Seka ulkonaoltaan etta ulosanniltaan.
to be honest look up Noma. that chef in charge there is one if not the best chef currently not these tv cooks they are great for telly but in real life it is those who win the bocuse d or or the Michelin 5 star chefs. Ramsay is abrasive for tv
This still brings a smile to my face. Ramsay grinding his teeth out angry at unprepared food is hilarious! FYI, none of these meals were properly prepared for this. That cheese for one is supposed to be fresh and warm, soft and stringy like mozzarella. We never eat it cold and tough, except maybe in East Finland where it's not at all part of their tradition so they don't know what the heck to do with it :D
Hemmo Any chef, foodie will tell you the same thing. Foods from Britain, Iceland, Finland and Scandinavia are crap compared to the Mediterranean. Spain, southern France, Italy, Turkey. You Shmuck you
Baghuul The fact that you implied that Finland and Britain are part of Scandinavia, shows that you don't have a slightest clue about anything. I'll take Finnish food over southern food any day. Nothing beats reindeer and potatoes!!!! Go fuck urself.
Seems like Ramsay tried to act entertaining here, but still I think this is not professional nor sophisticated way to behave. He knows it wasn't all terrible and he should've shown some respect.
I'm just wondering about the bread cheese and cloudberry. Was it REALLY that bad he just had to spit it out? Bread cheese has a pretty mild flavour after all and I don't think it's that hard. It's not as chewy as halloumi cheese, for example, but I doubt he would have said anything bad about halloumi. Also cloudberry jam has a pretty neutral flavour but I think it's delicious and you'd think a gourmet chef would appreciate that kind of a rare nordic treat. I don't think anyone would dislike that combination SO badly they would actually think it's "disgusting" and not able to eat it. I'd say either he just had to pull through his edgy Gordon Ramsay role and just mock everything rather than expressing his real opinions or he's just extremely picky. I don't know but nevertheless I think it's a little bit sad.
Starakz finally somebody who gets it... having cheapass supermarket food and also one of the worst kind brought up to world known chef and expecting him to like it is absolute fucking joke
I was disappointed how this host bought market stuff and not the real things. And why mämmi? why? why? why it is so "fun" let foreigners taste shit looking rye pudding, when even most of finns doesn't like it? "Hehehee, let's them taste shit!". Gordon have tasted over the years really good stuff from Finland and liked. My brain hurts when finns are marketing the worst traditional dishes, no wonder everyone thinks we eat crap here.
Mämmi is good. Its a sweet rye pudding. It tastes alot like kvass. It does look like chocolate and then people eat it with the wrong expectations. It has a nice toasted caramel and rye flavour.
No No No No NO!!! this is a big misunderstanding!! we dont eat those foods here !! or some does.. but the only people who eats those foods here are old people NOT young people! we young finnish people dont eat that shit! only old people eat that just let u know!
Wow i actually lost respect for gordon, one of my favorite chefs and doesnt like any traditional finnish dishes, finnish food is the bomb, some of the best food ever. He should go back to eating risotto and bite size pieces of steak.
Gordon should watch his manners...he isn't just criticizing a meal that wasn't cooked to his liking ...In fact insulting traditional food in a different culture...VERRRRY RUDE INDEED!!! JUST BLOOOOODY RRRUDDDDE!!!
16 years later in his Uncharted episode, he visits Finland and actually comes to love the Finnish food. I've also been to Finland and love the freshly made traditional food. I think she just gave him literal shit.
Go spit "some" and yel its so black it got a safe space on youtube. I actualy mean some other traditional food. I could slap the dude for karjalanpiirakka. If it aint serwed well not his foult.
This must be setup. Even Gordon could not be that harsh to such a kind person. Watch his episode of Finnish Christmas with Gino and Fred lol. Much better.
I had Finnish reindeer steak with cloudberry-mustard relish once and it was one of the best fcking things I have ever eaten. Sure Finnish food has a bad rap but it does have its gems. Just an English comment sending the Finns some love
I’m Finnish myself and even I thought the food looked disgusting, clearly it is pre-packaged food on here. Finnish food is great when it is done properly and done homemade.
This just shows how taste is very individual. You can have the best palate in the world, but there are still pople who don't like the same things as you do. I personally don't like mämmi, but I eat it if it's served. All the other stuff was awesome. Of course I can't know if they got some cheap stuff from the store, but in general even bad Karelian pie or "bread cheese" is decent.
