I would be interested to hear what you have to say on IR gear as well. I have a 7 figure top and find it solid, except the neck gasket cover in a little big and it also has the identical front and back issue

Thanks for the excellent suggestion. For this video I was focusing on GT suits and IR doesn’t use GT, but I would love to check out their stuff. I’ve never used their suits or tops (love my IR skirts though!!), but I took a look at them when I was in their new shop in Hood River the other day, and I know a lot of people who use their dry suits especially. A buddy just got the 7 figure top, so I’ll see if I can check his out at some point.

Hey Kevin, thanks for putting together a quality review. In your opinion, does the gore-tex pro material seem identical on the new OM and the Rev? I have a couple year old kokatat drysuit and the material feels a little more subtle and like traditional fabric vs being slightly more stiff and canvas like on the Rev that I looked at in person. I'm wondering if it's a Kokatat vs NRS thing or if all the newest goretex pro is the same despite manufacturer. Thanks!

I put both the OM and Rev side by side, and both my wife and I felt both fabrics. The OM did feel a little softer, but mine has been used for a while, whereas my Rev is brand new (I sold my other Rev to a buddy and bought another one for my backup). I think the fabric is prob identical on both, but just softens with time. Same may be true of your couple year old drysuit.

@@kevinhill.8 thanks Kevin! It seems like the goretex pro is consistent across different brands. I compared my current Kokatat meridian suit (2020) to a rev and the material felt a lot stouter on the rev. I believe they introduced the pro in 2021 after some more digging. Pro material seems like it will probably last longer but sacrifices some of the subtle ness/flexibility of the older goretex. Thanks again for a quality review and the response!

I think that’s right. Pro is more durable, and imo it’s worth sacrificing some flexibility. GT Pro still def more flexi than IR Devil’s Club material.

Great comparison! Thanks for the info. I don’t own a dry top. How well would these keep you dry in the event of a swim?

Since they are dry tops (not dry suits) they won’t keep you dry at all during a swim. Water will fill into them from the bottom almost immediately. Because of this, you generally only use a dry top when either the water isn’t terribly cold or the air is warm enough that if you got cold and wet you could warm up on shore. Also a good idea to wear a dry suit even if the air is warm if you think you might be in the water for an extended period of time, such as on a particularly difficult and continuous run. in a swim they dont flood but it does get you wet and isnt as cumbersome as say a shirt plus if you have a vest on which is hopefully most the time it helps keep the top secure on you.

Nice review. So what's the verdict? Did ya decide which top to keep? Apparently the newer Gore-Tex Pro is more rugged and durable. Does this equate to stiffer and not as supple? (Reckon it's the same beefier black material that's used on the Rogue's shoulder/arm area?) Which is lighter weight overall - Rogue or ŌM? Have you noticed any difference between the two regarding waterproofness or breathability? Lastly, is the ŌM a lil' longer in the body/torso (inner tunnel & overskirt) than the Rogue? Thanks!

Yes and no. I sold the Rev to a buddy and kept using the ŌM, but I recently purchased another Rev since I like it a lot. The new GT Pro is more durable but is not stiffer, which is really nice. I think the ŌM might be a little lighter, but I haven’t weighed them. I sold the Rogue a while ago, and I can’t recall how the torso length compared.

@@kevinhill.8 Gotcha. So no noticable difference between the ŌM/Rogue's waterproofness or breathability? Kokatat jacked the price on the ŌM another hundo ...$649 now. Fug Jerr Byedin! Guess I'll keep rocking the Rogue for awhile longer.

@@rustyshackleford4299 not sure I noticed any difference in breathability, but such things can be pretty difficult to compare. If your Rogue is in decent shape, I would just keep it and call it good.

Hello Kevin. I am interested in purchasing a Rev. However, NRS does not do leak tests on them only on drysuits. You think that could be an issue going forward? I am so used to sending in Kokatat gear whether it be drysuit or just a top for a leak and repair evaluation. I currenty have a Rogue that as far as I can tell has no leaks but is wetting out and through. I am going to dwr it but thought I might just try a new top.

Thx for watching and commenting. I personally don’t think leak testing dry tops is necessary. I’ve never done it, nor do I know anyone who has. I really only use a dry top when it’s not a big deal (i.e., not cold and dangerous) if I get a bit wet. That does sound like a problem worth solving with your Rogue though, either fixing it or replacing it. It’s one thing to have a few leaks and another to be getting soaked. Even if it’s not cold, it’s annoying. Good luck! 👍🏼
