In this one, we head to one of my all time favorite locations to dig for black and white fortification agates! I did not have too much time to work with so this hunt was intended to be a scouting mission in preparation for a return trip with our fellow Montana Rockhounding RU-vidrs. I definitely was not expecting to find such incredible specimens! I tested out a few holes, and we pulled some great pieces out of all of them! Beautiful fortification agates, botryoidal druzy coated pockets, vugs and even geodes filled with clear quartz and even amethyst crystals, and some huge dense nodules that I absolutely can not wait to cut into! After returning to the shop, I decided that these crystal specimens would benefit immensely from a dip into muriatic acid; this is a wonderful way to clean geodes or remove unwanted material beacause the acid will dissolve the calcite and calcium buildup without affecting the agate or quartz. Doing this leaves you with brilliantly glittering geode specimens! I hope you all enjoyed this one!
