Wow, thanx so much for this. A strange haunting aura seems to emanate from this film and seeing it again is like stepping out of a time machine. Gorgo is vastly underrated and unfairly over shadowed by Godzilla. This is one of the best giant monster films ever made, especially in color. Just as much as any Japanese Kaiju film, Gorgo has stayed within my memory for so many years, totally luv it. Those evil giant red glowing eyes and horrifying disturbingly enraged roar.
I wasn’t expecting much from a monster movie from 1961 but I have to say I thought this was surprisingly good especially considering its lack of effects. The ending was a surprise but highlights the importance of family, not a message often seen in 2023. Bill Travers and William Sylvester, one of the better US actors in the UK around this time, lead the cast with a number of 50’s villains like Bruce Seton, Martin Benson and Maurice Kaufman supporting. Look out for John Wood near the end shouting repent, repent which I thought was a nice touch.
Somebody should have told that little boy that was trying to cut the net to free the Monster, that people only wanted to see it, and look at it, not hurt it.
