As a kid growing up in 70s/80s Britain, this film was often shown on TV during school holidays. Whenever I spotted it in the TV listings I made sure to tune in - loved this along with 50s B-movie sci-fi.
I was only five years old when I saw this movie and I was really blown away, scary 😱 night, for the time they were the best special effects Thank you for bringing back those fond memories For uploading it and recommending it.
Hello from PIKEVILLE KENTUCKY 💫 im 64 used to watch Chiller THEATER ON SATURDAY NIGHTS 11PM THIS SO REMINDS ME OF THAT LOVE YOUR UPLOADS NO MATTER IF ITS NOT SO SCARY NOW
I went crazy over this movie when I was a boy, 7 years old in 1961. My dad took me down to the MEMROSE THEATRE in Norfolk, Va. where it was playing for months. The first time was a Friday night and the line to get tickets was all the way down Colley Ave. on the sidewalk and it turned the corner and went all the way down Raleigh Ave. As a boy, I had never seen anything like that. It was so exciting I could hardly stand it! Those were the days when movie going was something you could hardly wait for! I still watch this several times a year and I have the original movie poster from MGM 1961. It's wonderful! "LIKE NOTHING YOU'VE EVER SEEN BEFORE"! on the top of the poster!
as a soldier in Germany 1960 I met a National Service soldier who told me he was an actor in the movies, and his last job before being calld up was as a soldier in Gorgo he remembers running across a bridge. I will dee if i can recognise him LOL
Wow what a wholesome moment between two grandpa 👴.!! I wish I can relate like this with my mate later in life. Congrats mates.! The amount of joy you guys must felt seeing moving pictures haha… we don’t know what will marvel us tomorrow again, we have come a long way.
A true happy ending! Well, except for all those poor people who died....and for all those ancient buildings destroyed in my beloved London! But, in the end Mom saved her child! Fine movie, i enjoyed it! Thank you for uploading it!
oh wow! i remember seeing this (a repeat on tv) way back in about 1980-something .. it made such a huge impression on me for some strange reason... how cool sto stumble upon it again! kinda made me smile seeing it again..
Easier to digest the UK version? Gorgo looks as if he suffers from idiopathic facial or paralysis - Bell’s palsy. My mother’s friend had it but recovered with proper care, regimen & treatment.
@@antoinettegreen5344 The Rhedosaurus was awakened in the arctic when it's lair was destroyed by a nuke and even the creator of Godzilla said that movie was a direct inspiration for that movie
I'm not much on films like this, but however, this was a treat. Even though it was fiction...Something can be takin away from this. Never ever underestimate the power of a mother who loves its child. All these greedy people had to do was to let the baby go. In the end, momma and baby won while man and his stupide ways got MASHED!
Good movie and fun to watch. At least the science Isn't too wonky until the mom showed up. If you can accept the idea that a crocodilian from the Jurassic could withstand a 5-inch armor-piercing shell, well if she couldn't it wouldn't be much of a movie. I saw this movie in the theatres in the 60s and I enjoyed it just as much today as I did then.
Watched this last year for the first time since the 70's, and it was a pleasant surprise. It's not dated very much and it's a decent film for what it is. It works because it sticks to the original Godzilla formula of man v nature and the latter being too strong for the formula. It doesn't have too many supporting characters like some kaijus. There's no comic relief. The model work is good and it's quite harrowing at points. It's really good for what it is. Also much better than the likes of Repticilus or Yongary.
Pretty good for a Saturday afternoon kids matinée movie back in 1961. I would have loved it if I were a kid (while getting sick to death stuffing myself with milk duds, over salted popcorn and good and plenty candy) The two gentlemen who caused it all certainly have some explaining to do after half of London got blitzed, all because they wanted to make a quick buck!
My mother had a profound appreciation for classic monster movies, particularly the original King Kong and this film which she cherished deeply. It's been approximately 55 years, yet the memories remain vivid in my mind. One scene that always stirs deep emotions in me is when Gorgo momma, a towering creature, places her foot upon the enclosure's edge, enabling her offspring to escape to freedom. This moment, so powerfully depicted, never fails to evoke a sense of poignant nostalgia in me. Additionally, I must acknowledge the exceptional soundtrack of the film, a sentiment echoed by many others. Its a compelling composition that greatly enhances the entire movie's impact, and I wholeheartedly concur with those who praise its heartwarming quality.
I remember this movie vividly. I was 8 year old when it came to the local theatre. There was a full page color ad in the newspaper for the movie. All the kids in the neighborhood begged our parents to let us go see it. They gave us each a quarter and about 8 of us walked to the theater to see it. I remember those red eyes scared me to death. I had nightmares for a week.
Never ever seen these wonderful movies!!! So well made and written!!! Thank you You Tube!!! It’s worth paying a small fee every month also for no commercials!!!
I never knew this was in color. I remember seeing it on TV as a kid but, we only had a black and white TV. Even as kid, I thought he was the poor-man’s Godzilla. 😂🤣😂🤣😂😅
@chrisjenkins9978 Glad you enjoyed it colorized! Just so you know, we have a lot of films in both B&W and color. You can go to the description box of any film and find the link to the other version, B&W or color. Cheers!
A great classic monster movie. I loved the theme---that the monster was just a mother regaining the infant that the humans had stolen. And the warning at the end----that man should be wary of boasting that he is lord of creation----seemed very appropriate. Of course, you have to suspend your disbelief to enjoy the story. Even as a kid I realized that the first thing the authorities would have done would have been to grab the baby monster and put it in the path of the rampaging mother. WAY better than letting her stomp half of London flat trying to find her baby. But that was part of the message about watching our hubris. Still, a great old fashioned monster movie.
When it comes to suspension of disbelief, fact is stranger than fiction. Look at the wars, the chaos and the abject stupidity of politicians and those who make our decisions, then tell me about suspension of disbelief 😎 If Gorgo's mum popped up in London, do you really think 'the authorities' would do the right thing?

Fact is always stranger than fiction. Real suspension of disbelief comes when you start believing politicians, when you accept war, chaos, greed and abject stupidity as normal. If Gorgo's mum popped up in London, no doubt the idiots in charge would cause more destruction than a runaway dinosaur 😎
All things considered, this is a pretty good movie. Lots of aircraft and ship shots if you are into that sort of stuff, and the quality for a 63 year old film is excellent. The creature is a bit more cheesy than Godzilla (1954) but it's still well worth watching. The British are much more subtle with the destruction of London, it's not in flames like Tokyo after Godzilla got finished.
yeah, and Godzilla romped across half of Tokyo and a lot of other places. Maybe subtle isn't the word but the movie was a lot less devastating than any Godzilla movie.
Lol. The Royal aircraft carrier "Royal Oak" ?? It looks like the USS Lexington from WW2. The planes appear from the Korean War era....with US Insignia star & stripes on them. They couldn't edit better than that?
If they wouldn't let the baby go in the first place, it never would have happened But it's just a movie right.. Nothing is stronger than a love for a child.. You will go through hell to keep your trial safe.. She tore the city apart to retrieve her child..
Without a.doubt this is the most beautiful theme to any science-fiction or monster movie I have ever heard. The way the composer blends, the monster, with the little boy is incredibly ingenious. The music representing the little boy is heartwarming. Kudos Mr Lavagnino.
Oh wow!!! Is this the new 4K transfer from Vinegar Syndrome?!!! It looks much much better than the previous Blu ray release! I just ordered myself a copy! 😊
I hope to see here Ron Ely's Tarzan films!! They've never showed in Finland, or here in Sweden where I've lived 18 years. Or Mike Henry's 2 films, Tarzan and killer's of jungle 1967 (that's Finnish name of that movie, translated straight from English) and Tarzan and the jungle boy.
This is the first Steven Seagal film I've seen in the last 15 years where he doesn't look like he just polished of two dozen donuts and three Subway footlongs.
Live a few hours ago. It was a blast chatting with everyone. Loved it had to go get beer. Please do live again soon. Timing was perfect. Thanks Cult Cinema ❤❤❤
@@patrickoneill8707 Well apart from the fact that's a Scottish highland accent :D And a quick check on IMDB shows he was born in Aberdeen so that fits perfectly. Seen him in something before....ahhh yeah he's the wee boy in the Grayfriars Bobby film
@@jonimoroni7475in fact it's a feminist movie, and could also be called "Mama Gorgo Against The Patriarchy" or "She-Gorgo Defeats The Toxic White Male Privilege".
I was struck by the fact that there was no love interest. No fainting. For a moment I thought the female reporter might be it but one question (about money!) and she was done.
I was all prepared to be bored by yet another actor in a rubber lizard suit walking about smashing cardboard buildings, but I actually enjoyed this! Well done, CCC!
I find I watch these old 50s & 60s sci-fi movies when I want to be humored or have an incredulous laugh. So who ripped who off? Did King Kong rip this movie off or visa versa?
Godzilla rip off. Watched this as a kid and even then, I thought this was cheesy. Don't get me wrong I loved these 1950's creature features growing up.
Simply awesome big monster show! 🦖Starts off with a bang, slows down to a simmer, gets hot and then the screen EXPLODES. Motherly love triumphs ❤over exploitation. 💰 Sure thousands are flattened but it was all for the kid. He was ENDANGERED. 3.5 STARS all day long or until Big Ben 🕖come a-tumbling down.
Thank you for this! I was seven when this was released. I loved it, loved my Gorgo comic and every monster comic and film. My tender heart bled for them all. I'll be a septogenarian lady this winter and I still love a cryptid story and all science fiction. I have written half my short stories in the genre.
Awesome monster creature movie. Gorgo, North Atlanics cousin of Pacifics Godcilla 😉 The special effects from 63 years ago was put to good use, making this an entertaining movie even today. I can imagine how it was received in color cinemas back then, must have been very impressive and exiting to the audience. Thank you for putting this up here. 👍
