I bought an Olive and Dark Oak M23, along with the matching Dark Oak Shoulder bag. My son has since 'claimed' my Olive M23 and Olive waxed canvas Kit Bag as his travel set. I am giving my 21L GR1 Samurai a rest and using the Dark Oak M23 as a daily. So far I am really loving the extra organization and I absolutely love that the front pocket on the M23 has its own volume and is actually usable. I keep am IFAK there is a wire dopp for quick access. The GR1 slant pocket is so limited in use. As for the shoulder bag, I love the look, but prefer the layout of my original cordura shoulder bag.
I really wish they would add an external zipper on the back of the top flap. Fully opening the bag to access items in that top flap mesh pocket is annoying.
The problem is that the Heritage line is inconsistent. The waxed canvass shoulder bags were originally marketed as Heritage, but aren't now. And when you later put out "heritage" kit bags with leather bottoms and accents somewhat similar to the heritage GRs, it causes confusion. So I totally it when people are confused.
Yep. It’s a little confusing so I try to be clear. But anything listed as just “Waxed Canvas” is MiV and “Heritage” is MiUSA. At least so far that’s true
This confused me as well. I have 8 Heritage products from GoRuck, and 4 waxed canvas products from them. I always thought that Heritage meant MIUSA. With that, the MIV waxed canvas M23s and shoulder bag are advertised as 'waxed canvas', but both say 'heritage' on the tag inside. I am perfectly fine with 2 different lines, and would prefer the Heritage namesake be kept for MIUSA stuff.
GORUCK always making cool looking packs. By far this is my favorite one. I love the dark oak color; I might just have to pick up the Cordura version in all black when that one comes out.
Oh, I figured out you can pull the shoulder strap off and put it back on the other side of the middle adjustment buckle so you can fully extend the strap to fit.
I went for it but won’t see it for a few weeks till I can pick it up in the US. Dark oak after hearing you mention how nice it was in a review of something recently. Seems like a good fit for the M23 design to me, very classic looking. Do these waxed canvas bags do ok in the outdoors?
Already ordered the olive. I agree that the black buckles on the dark oak stand out a bit which made me lean towards the olive since it has the black webbing. Thanks for the review!
Just got the Olive Green M23 from the D Day gear drop and wow... It might be my favorite ruck. New to your channel and looking forward to seeing some load outs. Also... Boiler up!
The waxed canvas M23 feels so much better than the Robic, and will develop an amazing looking patina over time. I would recommend the Waxed Canvas version.
I have the robic version, haven't pressed the button to get the waxed version in black or dark oak. But, looking at it, i don't think they could add a leather bottom since the front and bottom are one piece.
Any opinion on the M23 21L in the black waxed cotton? I read one review that it attracted dirt/lint. I like the black the most but hard to tell if it’s going to be a dirt catcher.
I don't have a negative comment on any of my waxed canvas bags and it's my favorite material. That all said, if your main qualifier is the dirt aspect there is a slight tendency to attract dust compared to others. But it brushes clean without any problem. For me I prefer the feel
Tough to choose between the GR1 Heritage and the M23. But the GR1 is $100+ more. I wish the M23 was made in America because it’s so much more functionally complete vs. the GR1. Damn Goruck!!
@@JBOutside1 would LOVE your honest opinion on this. Maybe a great next comparison. Trying to decide between the Boundary Supply Errant vs. the Goruck M23 in black waxed cotton. I know very different material but just would love your opinion on functionality, look, feel, quality. Thank you!
My preference would be waxed canvas first, then 500D. Both feel better personally compared to the ripstop. And I don’t have any ideas when the M24 would be released and what it would even look like
how's the water repellent property of the wax canvas in the long run? does it require treatment? i might be too lazy to do that myself,, or maybe the 500D the same? @@JBOutside1
"No leather bottom but thats fine" talk about bias......damm. You pay this much they should have added the leather bottom. And as someone else added no zipper to get access to the pocket.
I feel like the price reflects this. 300 for a waxed canvas bag is by no means outside of normal price range. Most of the filson waxed canvas stuff doesn't have leather bottoms, and are priced way higher.
Leather bottom has been a GR1 Heritage thing. None of the M22s or M23s have ever had leather bottoms. I was just making a note of it…not a critique…hence my “that’s fine”. And the zipper layout is well done in my opinion and that zipper placement wouldn’t work
