Why shoot foxes?
The British red fox is widespread across the whole of mainland Britain and Ireland. The best estimate of the current British fox population is 240,000 adults in spring, to which a production of 425,000 cubs is added annually. The fox has no natural predator and for the population to remain stable, 425,000 foxes must therefore die each year.
Fox numbers need to be managed and controlled to prevent the predation of lambs, piglets reared outdoors, free range and domestic poultry. Foxes can also have a significant impact on vulnerable species of ground nesting birds such as black grouse, partridge, lapwing and curlew (Bealey, Green, Robson, Taylor & Winspear, 1999).
In order to protect such species while they are breeding, conservators and gamekeepers aim to control fox numbers, particularly from late winter to early summer. Foxes are also controlled around pheasant and partridge rearing and release pens in late summer and autumn. Overall, the direct cost to UK agriculture from fox predation has been estimated at £12 million annually (UK Government figures)

Sorry that you lost such a beautiful Bird Roy. So now war and hatred against foxes, who are themselves just trying to survive and feed their cubs. When I was a boy we had hens and it was my job to look after them. I knew if I was lazy just once, the fox would have them fox them for dinner. I locked them up securely each evening before dusk. We never lost any. Ironically, our local wild goshawks get taken out covertly by guns/trapping. As you know, they take a tiny tiny percentage of the 55 million pheasants released each year. This ongoing secret culling of goshawks is also very sad

You know, the more I think about this the more pissed I become. A fox does what a fox does, and I must say it's very skilled and smart about hot to go about it. And if you think a bit, you realize the foxes have a hard life ( so do most predators- goshawks included). I look at these 3-400 pound bears all around me, and am struck with wonder at how they are able to make a living in these big woods I live in , wondering how in the world do they manage to feed themselves. If we move into their space which all "civilized" people are doing then we need to respect their rights as well, co-exist. And if we can't seem to get it together to protect our livestock, our chickens, our hawks, then it's OUR fault, not theirs. You've been looking for an excuse to kill, and the fox drew the wrong number. What you should have been thinking about, it WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU, THAT YOU COULDN'T PUT IN ENOUGH PROTECTION FOR YOUR HAWK. THAT'S SHITTY FALCONRY AS FAR AS I CAN TELL. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!

I live in a very wild place - bears, mountain lions, bob cats, foxes, coyotes, fisher, etc. If you have wild animals around it's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to take care of your critters. That means good fences, and predator-proof protections. If you don't then I think you're lazy, incompetent and sloppy. Blaming the fox is flat-out plain stupid! Get your shit together, Roy!!

People that raise pheasant might feel the same about goshawks. You caged the bird in that predators territory. That hawk being killed was your fault, the foxes. I have no problem with fox hunting, but you're killing them because they killed a bird you made an easy target. That's a good reason. Killing foxes for revenge.

I mean if you you want to kill foxes, then go for it, kill foxes. And admit it. But to get all moralistic about it....the terrible fox killed my glorious goshawk ( and I admit, they are glorious)seems pretty silly. You simply got out-foxed by the fox. You know, I've lost a goshawk to a Great Horned owl ( in the California Sierra mountain range where I live), but I don't blame the owl; I just needed a bigger goshawk, which I have now. And she's a kick-ass (1400 grams) goshawk, and she's either killed or driven out all the local (3) Great Horned owls that used to live here, or at least that's what it looks like. Haven't heard one for three years, and this place was alive with them in the past. But nevertheless, I NEVER would kill a Great Horned Owl- or a fox. If I can't figure out a way to protect my falconry birds then I ought to take up some thing else, like macro mae or knitting or something. Blaming the glorious fox for outsmarting you is lazy and stupid. Look at your mews and make it predator-proof for Christ's sake!

So Roy spends his time killing wildlife with his Goshawks, and on one occasion wildlife kills one of Roy's Goshawks. And now poor Roy is all upset - so much so he decides to kill more wildlife. What a moron Roy is. Poor Roy cant take what he himself dishes out.

Most of the wild life he kills is for food, it is no different than getting a chicken from the supermarket & and he is shooting the fox's to protect HIS property, this is done humanely and the fox has no idea, not only this but loosing a pet can be like loosing a family member, would you persue a murderer of one of your family?
@alfiemarsh1774
@alfiemarsh1774 5 лет назад
He kills for a purpose you saddo I hope if you have a pet it dies! Your just a do-Gooder who thinks killing birds of prey is justice.

Keeping birds of pray should be made illegal even if bred, in captivity for ones own enjoyment
@lewispiper7951
@lewispiper7951 7 лет назад
Why should it? Most animals eg dogs would be extinct if it wasent for captive breeding the same applies with birds of pray
@alfiemarsh1774
@alfiemarsh1774 5 лет назад
It’s not for enjoyment it’s the purpose to kill pests. The only reason you don’t own them is probably because you can’t get hold of one or you are jealous of people.
