Pier 26 in Tribeca became the birthing place for five tiny goslings on May 7 and 8. Having noticed the mother goose sitting on her nest beneath the pier Tide Deck, on a level protected from the incoming rush of water, the Tribeca Trib's Carl Glassman photographed hatchling number one just after its head entered the world. It emerged from one of six visible eggs while, nearby, stood a watchful father goose. Not long after, Battery Park City resident Kate Weissbacher, who had also been observing the birds, stopped by to find, and photograph, the mother with what was now a brood of five. The next day she was back to record three of the goslings in the water, paddling their tiny webbed feet as mom and dad bobbed close by.
