Gossamer Gear LT5 Trekking Pole Repair
I broke my pole while I was at Yosemite, as soon as I got home I ordered a replacement section. See if this fixes my pole.

I broke mine while on the JMT. The break was on the top section, and like yours towards one of the ends. I found it was easy to field repair - slide the other section over / under the break and duct tape the section with some splints. The pole was shorter than ideal but was good for another 40 or so miles. Super easy to replace the broken section. I did buy another CF poles since then but have gone back to the LT5s since they are so much lighter than anything else out there.

They are so light. I know a lot of people have said they won't use them since they break easily, but I put a lot of miles on these before this happened. And they are so light!

I do also have a set of Fizan’s that I’ve had for quite a few years and they are a great balance of strength and weight.

Yours & another youtuber both have videos showing/telling about broken Gossamer Gear Poles. I've not found/seen any videos pertaining to broken MSR Carbon Fiber Ascent poles. Just an observation. Yes, I own a pair of MSR Carbon Fiber Ascent TPs Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada

Gossamer Gear is a great company but I will never buy those poles because I've seen so many stories of them breaking. Talking about Gossamer Gear, I have two of their early backpacks (G4). I think this was their first backpacks but I'm not 100% sure about that. I bought two of them when I first started backpacking, one for me and one for the wife. I think this was the beginning of UL movement lol. Neither of them have been used in a long long time though. I might just have to take it on a trip here soon. I think the last trip for it was a 4 day Dolly Sods trip in like 2015. All I took was a tarp and really cheap lite inflatable pad with Tyvek groundsheet and Poncho liner as my shelter and sleep system. Even with that back then my base weight was a lot more than what I carry today. Even the pack was just over 1lb.... EDIT: Just watched the rest of your video and definitely not getting those now. lol... If I had the money to blow I would get them just for the weight and packable size like you mentioned.

Knowing Carbon Fiber the way I do from competitive cycling I steered FAR away from them as a trekking pole material, especially since when I tent I use trekking pole tents and I don't want to find myself trying to find sticks *when* they break. Here is the issue. CF poles will simply not have the same lateral strength as aluminum. The way the lay up the CF sheets in poles they are laying them up for max vertical strength, not horizontal. In Rocksylvania it is thus a matter of when your CF poles will get stuck between some rocks and sheer, becoming a deadly weapon. An aluminum pole however will take more force to bend, than CF to snap, and even then you might be able to bend it back to some semblance of functionality.

And here I thought that you were going to tell us that they were like the quality brands who actually stand behind their product no matter what, and that they sent you new ones for free, I guess not....

I bought a pair for my AT thru hike attempt this year. Thank God they broke before I left for the trail. I used them on approx 15 training hikes on the AT here in Northern New Jersey before one of them snapped. I bought a pair of used Komperdell aluminum poles and they have lasted me more than 300 miles. Learn from my mistake and don’t purchase LT5’s!!

I have well over 1000 miles on mine and they only broke due to my own mistake. It’s tough to say if one brand would have held up better in the exact situation they broke.

@@SpiguyverBackpacking1 I believe that, but for the money spent vs the weight saved, they didn’t work for me. The one snapped when I was in High Point State Park in a really rocky section on the AT.😵‍💫

@@Zapruderfilm1963 I’m not discounting your experience with them. I have been through that section and know the rocks!

@@SpiguyverBackpacking1 yeah I live only a few miles away from the park in Montague. That area is my backyard and am on that section all the time. Love your channel, keep hiking Brother!👍
