Cotton crop is is also called Gossipium hirsutum. It is also called upland and maxican cotton. Largest exporter of in in world is USA. This plant isa native to Maxico, West Indies and South America. It belong to order malvales and family Malvaceae. Number of chromosomes are 26 = 2n. The gemination period for this crop is between 4-7 days. After germination, vegetative phase start in which more groth in root zone occurs. After the vegetative phase, squaring stage start in which first flwer bud is produced. Squaring start after 35 to 70 days of germination. First flower in cotton is produced after 20-35 days of squaring. After fertilization, fruit is developed which is caleed boll. Boll is produced about 15-18 days after fertilization. Penetration rate of root is vary from species to species or depend on soil type. Usually tap root penetrate 20-25 cm, 180-200 cm and 3-4 m in day. Leaves are hairy which resist Jassid but cant whitefly. Fruit weight ranges between 5-8 g and it has 4-6 locules and each locule contain 7 seeds. Seeds are brown or black in color with fuzz or lint. It is reported the the germination rate is increased if the lint is removed by treating it with H2SO4.
