OMG YES!!! I have been waiting for literal years for you to do this review! ❤️❤️❤️ I purchased the tenor Ocelot from them back in 2021 and have not regretted since. Without holding one in your own hands, it's REALLY hard to really give any description of it justice. I also adore its very natural "60s Surf Rock" sound. Its to die for. I do wish there were far more artists on RU-vid showcasing this in a "rhythm" guitar kind of playing style, or even just actual tabs translated to ukulele for those of us that are keen to play punk, metal, and/or dirtier music styles.
Hi Barry, a great review. I ordered the PeeWee bass from the guys last August to replace my trusty Kala Ubass, which is just about falling to bits after me battering it almost every day for the last ten years. I received the Fanner PeeWee just after Christmas and I absolutely love it. As you say, the team at Fanner could not be more helpful. At every stage they ask you about your preferences, keep you updated, and send you photos of each stage of the manufacture. For instance, I have images of the body when it was just a piece of wood. Likewise the neck. Just wonderful customer service. Playing-wise I love it. My biggest problem with my Ubass, on which I've been using Pyramid steel strings since they became available, was the response from the E string. No matter how I tried to set the ubass up I could never get a satisfying sound from the E string and had to compensate by really hammering it. To be fair, I got a really good sound otherwise. However, the sounds I am getting from the Fanner are on another level. I'm not sure if the guys at Fanner will let you have a bass to review but if they do I think you'll be just as impressed as I am. I would highly recommend Fanner and their wonderful instruments. Colin
Love that you reviewed this. Had a Jazzmistress model made and delivered a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it - I just wish there were more steel string electric ukulele tutorial videos on youtube because I have no idea how to play it properly lol
What a marvelous instrument. I might just order one. I usually prefer sopranos, but when electrified it's another thing. Thanks for the review. You're the best ❤️
Really cool! It doesn't hurt that I really dig the Telecaster shape AND that pale green (It's usually called sea foam green right?) I've been pondering an electric uke for a while and if I get one a Fanner seems like the obvious choice now.
Such an interesting instrument! The pricing is unbelievable, and far better than a RISA for sure! I have no idea what kind of voodoo they do to make this so well for such a good price, but kudos to them!
Ooh, another item I wouldn’t have considered. It is a looker and with sustainability story, really has brought them to the forefront and the price includes shipping. Just been on their website for a look and there is a dizzying array of models. Looks a really classy electric Uke. Thanks for the demo, if I am ever in the market for an electric uke, and I like the look of their jazz model. Then I know where to consider. Another great review have a great week.
That is a great sounding ukulele so many options and really nice to look at to your review of it is of course spot on and we appreciate everything you do for the ukulele community
@@jonas3619 Fender Alternate Reality Tenor is better than this because it is a "baritone uke"/"tenor guitar" and has wider chromatic range than tenor ukes. But tenors are more compact and lighter.
That looks gorgeous. A big Tele fan, so I'm definitely biased. I've been looking for another Fender Tenor Telacster as a backup, but as they only made a short run. I can't order a new one, and used prices are in the "silly" range. Been looking at the Pixalator Baritone. Could be the one. 😎
What a beautiful instrument and I love the colour too. I wouldn't buy one, as I'm looking to upgrade my meagre collection with a good quality soprano but that doesn't mean that I can't appreciate a beauty like this, made by proper craftsmen, who obviously care about what they're doing. Really enjoyed this review. Thanks Baz, as usual. Nice one! 👍
I have one of the other models. Three pickups and five toggle settings. I love it, it is a fantastic instrument. My only gripe is the toggle switch is rather large. When I strum, I sometimes catch it and knock it the the second setting which is so annoying. I notice on my 3/4 guitar that the switch is smaller. A couple of things to note. When he says, locale, they are actually in South Africa. If you buy one then you will be charged vat, import duty and a fee from the delivery company. I ended up paying around £750 in the end. But, if you can afford it, get one they are fantastic.
Good morning Baz, I watched this a couple of nights ago but had to come back and have another look! I think that is the best sounding electric Uke I have heard. I thought Risa's were good but I think that's better. The only tiny gripe I have is the logo. Other than that, I think it's amazing .. for the price too .. including shipping! Wow! I am going to check them out. Thanks for another fab review Baz!
Watch out Fender!!! Fanner's Pixelator Thinline Tenor Ukulele is conquering your ukulele share of market. 😀 As an almost acoustic ukulele, it's quiet for practice but bold with a Fender Amp.
Electric ukuleles are not my thing, but the quality, price, and endless options given are amazing. If I were to purchase an Electric, this would be it. I love the clean sound of this ukulele. Beautiful! 💙 🎵
This was sent on loan and marked as a trade sample so avoided import tax. But if you are buying I'd factor that in. Rates depend on where in the world you are.
The f-hole was developed by violin makers to complement the acoustics of an arch-topped instrument, so the shape would appear to be purely cosmetic in this case. I would like to take a look and see if it is available with humbuckers.
Absolutely cosmetic - but it's Fender that developed this look on their Tele years ago. Absolutely available with HB's - like all elements to a Fanner literally every part is customisable. Two HB's? Check - mix of HB's and coils? Check. P90s? Check. Coil tapped buckers? Check!
@@GotAUkulele I'm saving up to get a custom Fanner, while I consider all the precise specs that appease me and the tones I am honing on my pedals. I've currently got a Centurion & Pathfinder, and I'm convinced I want 2 single coils until you mentioned "coil-tapped humbuckers". Are those the ones that you can switch between single and double coil? If so, I have additional considerations. 🤩
I like it. A lot. No truss rod, though. Seems like that might be a good idea, especially as you might wangt slightly thicker strings for better playability.
See the written review - that confused me also - it's an option - admittedly a low cost option at $10, but not sure why it isn't standard. If I was buying one I'd pay the ten dollars.
@@GotAUkulele I've read it now. Thank you. I'd certainly choose one too. They do interesting stuff and aqll I hear about it is good. Never plaid a uke with a whammy bar, and that's certainly an intriguing option of theirs.
I'll vouch for Fanner too. I use a Baritone Jazzy they made. They are a pleasure to communicate with while picking out customizations. Using the 3d model image they have up of the body design I picked out a spot where the knobs would be more out of the way for a mod I added myself latter. They installed them right where I wanted them. I guess the only video I have up of it is this one if you want to hear it briefly. ru-vid.comQrHtdFZmjHk
Hi sir. I would like to ask you a few questions because I am thinking of buying a fanner electic baritone ukulele, and the truth is that I need help, could this baritone be tuned like a tenor ukulele (GCEA)? And if it is possible, what strings would be appropriate, what material and type? Thanks for your help, Greetings from Spain.
Yes - certainly is possible with a string change. You'd do better to email Fanner though who are extremely helpful in discussing custom options. The'll know exactly what to use and will set it up accurately for that new tuning
This is a pretty nice looking electric. I really don’t like electric ukuleles I do like electric guitars. The only thing I don’t like about the build of this one is the closed tuners . I like the sound but it sounds to much like a guitar for me. Great review. I really like that you do all kinds of ukuleles and don’t just stick to one style. Thanks as always for an enjoyable review……DOC
Fair enough - not for everyone (and to be honest, my electric uke days are probably over) but no avoiding that stores can't get them in quickly enough. Certainly the best steel strung electric uke i've yet seen
It’s a beautiful instrument in general but the sound quality isn’t that great as a guitar and it honestly doesn’t sound like a ukulele at all. It really doesn’t do a good job as either to my ear. So for about a hundred more on price you can buy a Fender player’s series Telecaster. And $150.00 less you can buy an extremely nice Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster. As far as a ukulele goes, even a cheap Luna sounds better than this because it actually sounds like a ukulele. It’s just one of those instruments that wanted to be two things at once but turned out to be not really good at either one.
Each to their own - no electric ukes sound like ukes to me and as electric ukes go this sounds the best of those i've ever played. It's not MEANT to be a guitar. I'd never EVER recommend a Luna myself - what does 'sounds like a ukulele' even mean though?
@@GotAUkulele Also, I remember your review of an actual Fender ukulele and you went on and on about how you personally didn’t like the Telecaster headstock on a ukulele. Now out of the blue, you do a review of a no name generic knockoff Telecaster copy and your actually gushing over the fact that everything about it is like a Telecaster. No complaints at all about there being a Telecaster shaped headstock on a ukulele here. You’re not really being consistent. I really don’t understand how you think it’s a bad thing when Fender uses their own iconic Telecaster headstock but it’s just fine and dandy when a knockoff company uses it.
@@Xcorgi Oh do give it a rest and actually read and watch. I don't like inline headstocks on acoustic instruments (ukes or guitars). I like them on electric guitars (I own three). There's a difference. If you make an actual electric instrument with thin strings to look like a Fender and inline stock makes sense for break angle, tuning and size of strings. On an acoustic it looks utterly ridiculous. Well done again for trashing a family business by calling them a 'no-name' uke (they are not no-name - their name is Fanner) in favour of a mass market corporate behemoth..
@@Xcorgi And if you remember the review of the Fender Tenor Tele - you will see I explained this then too - it suits that instrument. It doesn't suit acoustics..
Very thin voice. Not have much meat and pickup difference as pathfinder. But pathfinder needs 200$ upgrade to lower zero fret for better intonation and change other frets to stainless steel cause they wear fast. See video on my channel.
You realise most of the recording was on a flat clean channel for a reason? Completely disagree - the Pathfinder pickups are cheap and slightly noisy and boxy - I'd rather a clean distinct sound in a clean channel before tinkering. Also think the pickup difference here is clear and as expected - with the Pathfinder one was 'ok' one was 'meh',.. The humbucker is ok (ish) but I found the coil sound to come across muted and constrained. The Fanner feels much more airy whichever is chosen. I'd rather that and then shape tone from there with amp or EQ rather than start with a compromised tone
@@GotAUkulele After pathfinder i started to hate string trees and zero frets. So i'm on your side. Maybe fanner uke will have more meat with humbuckers.
@@rasgueadoukulele234 The string trees on the Flights are ugly as hell. I really don't think these coils lack meat (though humbuckers will certainly be fatter) - I was deliberately playing them on a flat setting - If I ran this through my pedal board I'd be in heaven as I'd be starting from a clean palette - which is what I always prefer.
