Get well soon Gareth. I hope the fractures aren't hurting/aching too much. You've made me rethink my life and I've decided to cut the booze out of my life completely too. Good luck to you. Thank you!
I stopped drinking about 8 years ago, not for health reasons, or blinding light revelations etc but simply because I was working overseas in a 'dry' Country and just didn't want to be one of those Brits that couldn't walk past a bar in the airport for the flight home & post a photo on FB! The hardest part for me is the reaction of friends & family, for so many people drinking is something they do mist days and is a huge part of their life
I gave up drinking a number of years ago and it has changed my life massively for the better. Who knew there was a life without booze? Well there is and it's bloody brilliant! All the best with sobriety and I hope your jaw heals soon.
What do you drink instead of alcohol? I'm just about to give the lager up, and other fizzy drinks as they're not good for the stomach. So is it drinks like barley water, fruit juice?
PSA: To those seeking to drastically change their alcohol consumption (ie reduce a lot or quit entirely), CONSULT A DOCTOR! Seizures can be just as deadly as liver damage, make sure you do it safely.
This is incredibly important advice. Alcohol can be a bitch to withdraw from. You might literally not be able to do it on your own. That's not weakness, that's being smart about it. Work with professionals
Absolutely. I had to go to detox when I quit, i was drinking a liter of vodka a day. It's been 11 months and I don't want it at all! It is totally possible to quit
One more day of sobriety - something to celebrate! 🥳 Maybe if you’re up for it, some soup reviews? Maybe even comparisons (branded vs. supermarket own?). Something a bit different which also helps with your recovery! Keep on smashing your progress, we all appreciate these little updates!
Keep going buddy, watching from Norway and following your journey, I'm ten years sober now and I know the courage it takes to be open with yourself about it. Proud of you and my ears are always open. 🎩
If all of my friends were just like yourgoodself i'd be one extremely happy man. Theres no doubt that you are indeed a lovely man Gareth. My best to you and yours.😊😊
Gareth.....lots of us have been watching you since your channel had just a few hundred viewers. We are with you on the journey....out here rooting for you!! 👍
You can do this. I have come of some prescribed Medication. Hot sweats shakes panic......I know you can beat it am praying for you. By the way you could take the chance to taste some carton fresh soup from Aldi and Morrisons. Just an idea. ❤
I fell and faceplanted a concrete pavement on a cold wet night while jogging 6 months ago. I got a condyle fracture aka Guardsman's fracture - upper jaw and had to have it repaired. 6 weeks no chewing. I eat soup, scrambled eggs, pot noodles, porridge, protein shakes. It's quite hard trying to take in a lot of liquid calories, so I ended up losing quite a lot of weight. It doesn't take very long to heal. Good that you don't need surgery for it. I was also a binge drinker for years and gave up booze completely about 7 years ago. It's easy if you don't mind not having a big social life. I couldn't drink beer anymore anyway just looking at it makes me heave and think of all the regret I had after many a night out and losing my wallet, keys, phone multiple times, not remembering how I got home, the things I said, etc etc. It's all or nothing for me so totally get where you're coming from. You're a smashing bloke I wish you the very best in your recovery from your fall. Your family will still very much appreciate still having you around X
@@lovejetfuel4071 My auntie wasn't very lucky with the NHS. They gave her infected blood, and then withdrew her treatment because the nurses wanted to dance rather than treating patients, which meant she went into liver failure and died.
@skracing_1805 I could tell you all the horrors of the hospital in my town in america, your story sounds like it could happen here too. We won't go to the hospital here unless we have to because it is such an emergency. We will always go to another town. Sad state we are all in. The positives to the nhs are that you don't walk away with life crippling debt if they do treat you, but that means nothing if you aren't alive. I think the nhs pushed my mother in law to get bariatric surgery and she died 2 days after the surgery. They labeled it as a natural death. The whole system stinks.
My husband fractured his face in 4 places back in November. It was very painful but fortunately he didn’t need any surgery. Fingers crossed yours heals well and quickly. Stay strong and use painkillers when needed!
Hello G. I’ve followed your food antics/reviews now for nearly 2 years and my wife and I love your channel. We’ve bought numerous products based on your recommendations and, I once got a response from you when I commented on one of your reviews, which made me extremely happy and smiley. You always come across as a nice, friendly, down to earth man, someone who I could trust in ‘real’ life. I admire your honesty and natural compassion for your interests in home economics, a subject close to my own heart. It is with some regret however, that I must express my concerns on your recent posts. You have obviously had a very, dare I say it… self inflicted, traumatic experience but, trust me on this one mate, social media is NOT the springboard you need to achieve your goals. You need to do this on your own without sharing it with us mere mortals. Hurry up and come back to us, we miss you. Where has Baldie food guy gone? ❤
Your broken bones will heal and hopefully your journey of abstinence will continue and grow stronger. Your journey will inspire and give strength to many of your followers. Thankyou..
All the best and a speedy recovery big man. Also all the best on your new sobriety journey. I’m a young man of 28 who’s drinking is often out of control - like yourself, when I start I can’t stop. Your last video was inspirational and I have a lot of respect and admiration for you. Sending you love, sir ❤
Be strong bud, we learn from our mistakes...yeah, right, My thoughts are with you, my grand daughter watches you on my laptop, she is 12 and she says to tell you..."we love your show, you are a superstar. You did not deserve this. Wish I could be there to give you a hug"...her words and not mine!
Glad you won't need surgical interventions. Im an RN. I never had any physical jackpots but I was just sick and tired of what I had become. I stopped on 3/4/91. I was a beer drinker also. I could do a case a day. I decided to go to an AA meeting. As a backup plan I had a case of miller lite 16oz cans just in case the meeting sucked. The meeting was just what I needed. I've never drank alcohol since then. I kept myself close to the program and surrounded myself with AA friends. I've been sober 12,157 days a day at a time. My body is healing as well as my relationship with my family and friends. Im not the 40yo guy I was back then. Im 74 and life presents other challenges but I can meet them head on. If you haven't done it already today is the day to reach out to AA and just say I need help. AA exist for one reason to carry the message to sick and suffering alcoholics. Joe Nature Coast Florida.
Love that this channel is becoming more than just the food reviews and takes real courage to face your problems and do what's best for family. Well done mate
Total mind, body & soul reset incoming. This “accident” that you’re enduring shall prove to be life changing. After all these nourishing soups, fresh juices & smoothies that your body & cells will utterly adore you for, you’ll be bolting up hills instead of tumbling down them! You’ve got this 💯👊❤️
If only we could go back in time hey Gareth. I’m trying to cut down myself. You will be an inspiration to me, keep up the videos, we are all here for you. God bless xx
You're a very lucky man, the injuries could've been much worse or even fatal, I'm glad you're not putting the family thru anymore trauma, sending strength n luv from glasgow❤
Good for you - keep on going. My father aged 82 beat an addiction to alcohol last year that he had had for decades. It is never too late./ Regular support of AA important - so proud of him and am willing you on., You've got this x
Good luck with your recovery. It's a warm feeling isn't it when a medical professional tells you your ailments are 'unique'! I know it always makes me feel special as I am leaving a hospital 😁.
A while ago I had a lung issue which was serious for a while. When I went for another scan , it had cleared up completely all on it's own. The doctors were stumped as it's not supposed to be possible. I definitely had that warm feeling as I left , and ever since.
@@Doug791Great news for you. The more time I spend with Dr's' (sadly a lot at the minute) the more I realise that they are just mere mortal humans like us all. They know some stuff from training and experience, don't know other stuff and get it right sometimes and are wrong sometimes. To go back to the subject of Gareth and alcohol, I will never forget being asked by a NHS department head consultant how many units of alcohol I drank each week. I said I didn't know exactly but it was a fair bit less than the government published recommended maximum. The consultant replied condescendingly that he didn't know how much that recommendation was! 😲. Which I found truly astonishing for such a high level person.... I'm thinking how can this person know if I am drinking too much if he does not know the mens/womens max weekly units! I could tell him 50 a week and he would have just jotted it down oblivious to the fact I would have been near 4 x over the limit!
Wishing you a speedy recovery Gareth Best wishes and congratulations on giving up drinking Health and family are more important Wishing you all the best xx
You’re looking so much better already, lovely to see you back with a smile. Because every video you’ve ever made always puts a smile on our faces. I know your going to get there with all the love from everyone who watches the channel. Your an inspiration to all of us. Thanks so much for all you’ve done for us over the last three years. 😊😋
I'm so glad that youtube let me know about you! Im following now and cheering you on! I'm in recovery myself and know how tough those beginning days are. Going to keep following and prayers for quick healing
Wish you so much luck on this journey, your family must not only be proud of you but relieved as well. As some one said in a previous comment ‘ shoulder back, head up, move on’
Keep putting one foot forward. Take every hour of every day as it comes. If I can do it, you can too mate. If you want it bad enough, it will happen. You know very few of us personally, but I can guarantee you have the support of everyone on this channel. 💪🏼👊🏻👍🏻
Hello again, Gareth, In 2004, I quit drinking alcohol due to the damage that it had done to my liver, the alcohol had reduced my liver's function by two thirds. I had been a heavy drinker for thirty years up to 2003 and it's affect crept up on me over time. My doctor nformed me that if I carried on drinking as I was, I would be dead within four years. I was drinking 120 pints of premium lager a week, that works out at an average of 17 pints a day, it's little wonder that my liver was damaged as badly as it was. In 2004, I dodn't have one alcoholic drink, I was taking milk thistle capsules to help my liver to recover quickly. My liver did repair the damage and I am now a very moderate drinker at four to eight cans a week. Best Regards, Gareth.
An alcoholic cannot cut his alcohol down ,you must be just an heavy drinker of which there are many ,I've never heard of a single alcoholic who can cut his drinking down once he has stepped over the line and became an alcoholic, Not a single one and I'm 74 whose been sober for over 20 years and not a single alcoholic who I know of has ever heard of one who has been able to cut down I'm not saying this nice man is an alcoholic ,he might just have been a heavy drinker but if he is ,the idea that one day he will be able to drink successfully ,has to be thrown out of the window once and for all
@@MARKETMAN6789 What works for one doesn't always work for all, some people can successfully cut down their drinking to sociable levels while others can't, it's all down to personality. All the best.
@@HealingpoppyAgree, some can get it under control and carry on drinking but others can’t. Didn’t ever consider myself an alcoholic as I could go without but often went for weeks when I drank every night. In my case the only way was to stop completely as I knew I’d very easily lapse into binging. Turned 70 in May and stopped 18 months ago, mainly for health reasons but there were other factors too. Been one of the best things I’ve ever done and I wish I’d done it years ago.
It was saddening to see your video, telling us of your injuries and how they occurred. I wish you all the best in your endeavours to rid yourself of this addiction.
Been following this guy since the start, fantastic good reviews there been fun and there saved me money too, so get yourself better and I follow you for the next 3 years too 🎉🎉🎉
All the very best on your road to recovery. Good luck! We're all rooting for you. Looking forward to your reviews of some tasty soups, homemade or shop bought.
Soup is food, too. Now you can compare cheap to premium, shop to big brand and any other non solid food stuffs. You've just been handed lemons. We know what our American friends do when that happens. Lemonade, anyone?
Well done mate. I'm on this journey with you, I've been sober for 4 weeks now. Wishing you all the best in your recovery pal...keep on keeping on!! 💪🏻🙌🏻
You are amazing person Gareth. With your families love and support and all your RU-vid followers too. Everything will turn out awesome for you. You're an inspiration to so many x
Oooo bring on the soup reviews. Well done getting yourself sorted. Every journey, no matter how far, starts with a few small steps. You've got this dude 💪.
Everything happens for a reason, and perhaps this is the wake up call you needed. Wishing you nothing but the very best for you and your family, please keep us all posted. We’re all supporting you.😊
Hi mate good luck with kicking the drink I lost my mum to the drink 7 years ago so hard to watch the power of addiction do it for your family I’ve never been the same since my mum died I’ve packed in drinking 17 months now and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done I never had a drink problem just don’t need it in my life stay strong 💙
Always a bit scary those phone calls. My mate got bloods taken at the GPs on a Wednesday and told phone back in a week. He got a call on Thursday afternoon "At your earliest convenience, and by that we mean before noon tomorrow, come to Station 14 and you'll be staying the weekend". When he got there it was oncology and within the hour he was on the ward.
Glad you got checked out 👍. Also good news that no surgery is needed, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Try not be too hard on yourself, but see it as a lesson and a turning point. We're all only human and trying our best. Sending Geordie well wishes from the Toon 😁
Please keep up the good work I lost my Dad 18 year ago due to drink I have been through so many hard times & special times And all I wanted during all those times was my Dad Good luck
