Half Swedish and Dutch born in Spain Alicante, thanks to you I started cooking Spanish dishes now for a couple of years. Thanks for all the new easy nice dishes.
I'd never thought of frying canned sardines before, but now I 'm definitely going to try this method! Your videos have given me a whole new set of recipes and methods. Thank you so much!
I’ve eaten canned sardines all my life. Never thought I could fry them. Just tried this recipe. They were lovely! Easy and great taste. Thank you so much! This will be a staple from now on.
Thank you Albert! I really appreciated this recipe, I bought tins of sardines on sale and I had no clue how to prepare & eat them. Looking forward to this recipe & the aioli sauce... Blessings ❤️
Looks really tasty. Being used to a more Scandinavian style prep for a snack of DEENZ, frying them the way you did is next on my way of enjoying canned sarDEENZ.
I love sardines, it's such a healthy and inexpensive source of healthy fats and proteins. I wish I just had more ideas of what to do with them, so you have no idea how happy I was to find this video 😃🥰
Pasta con la sarde is a great pasta dish, You can mash them while with bread crumbs or crackers with a little flour and egg and seasoned how you like and make fried fish Pattie’s with them. Or sauté some onion and garlic and chilis then add tomato sauce or canned chunked tomatoes and season how you like and serve over rice or noodles
From Galicia, northwest of Spain, grilled sardines, in June and July when they are very fatty and with corn bread, are my favorite fish dish. The smaller sardines, which we call "xoubiñas", dipped in flour and fried in olive oil, are also wonderful, they are eaten whole. I have never seen canned sardines fried, I eat canned sardines with bread, baguette type, but I will try to make them fried, as the Spanish saying goes " nunca te acostaras sin saber una cosa mas / you will never go to bed without knowing one new thing"
That was so awesome! Just awesome! I gotta give it a try! I am gonna buy some canned sardines and try. Wow what a cool recipe! Thanks! Until next time, hasta luego! Ciao!
What is the sauce dip please, the main ingredient was not clearly identified …… yoghurt ? Thanks ……. You can’t go wrong with sardines, and the family feline also enjoys them. Thnx again. Great presentation 🤗🤗🤗🖖🖖🖖
This is not a classic spanish dish, not a tapa, not a sad joke. Im 52yrs old spanish cook and i have never cook this, not even have seen it in any spanish restaurant. Choosing between these recipe or starving, every spanish cityzen would choose starving.😂
For those people not too familiar with sardines, definitely choose the small ones. In larger sardines, the spine is both larger and more calcified, which makes for a grittiness that I don't like. OTOH if you don't mind that, you will get more calcium in your diet with the bigger ones, and they are usually cheaper. Also, there is a wide range of quality in canned sardines. Some cheap brands use cottonseed oil instead of olive oil. Take your time, read the cans and remember this is a food where cost and quality usually go hand in hand.
I recently bought a case of brisling sardines. They’re quite small compared to normal ones. But I find them harder to eat and they have a stronger, bitter fish taste. My favorite sardines are in water or sunflower oil. Around here it’s usually canola/mix oils, soybean, or olive oils. The most calcified ones I’ve seen are the vertical cans from the Phillipines. Good for budget, but not mouth feels. I can feel the bones and the grit. 😨 I like fish with a cleaner taste.
Wow, never EVER would have thought of something like that. Don't ya' just love RU-vid? A world of learning and new experiences at a click. Can't wait to try this one!
I’ve always got a few tins of sardines in the cupboard as they’re so handy - I’ve not made this recipe though so it’ll be my next one to try out. There was a lovely fish restaurant where I used to stay in Mallorca & their fried whitebait was heavenly so this definitely appeals to me.
Ok, I made this and just wolfed it down!! Delicious!! Dangerous though, I could eat about 5 tins of this!! lol Thanks for sharing this idea!@@SpainonaFork
My parents lived in Spain when my father was stationed there for a while when he was in the Navy. My Mom said they used to fry fresh caught sardines & eat them whole, bones & all! I’ve never tried fried sardines & fresh sardines are hard to find in the southern part of the USA. I will give this recipe with canned sardines a try. Thanks!
I just tied this even though I had none of the right ingredients and it still came out great. I only had boneless/skinless sardines. I used italian seasoning, with lime juice, and jarred minced garlic for the aioli. Can’t wait to try it with the right ingredients!
Always wondered if I could make this dish with canned sardines. Got an imported 2lb tin to use up. Between this and sardine pasta that should do the trick :)
I grew up eating Sardines still enjoy them, I never heard or thought of frying Sardines; they look absolutely delicious, I can’t wait to try them, thanks for sharing your recipe 😊
As much as I've eaten sardines, fried was the one way I haven't. I will definitely make this today! Looks delicious. Thank you for sharing this recipe! 🎉
@@SpainonaFork Thanks 😁 Our 6 yr old son L❤️v it. Had to make some more. Family showed me how to make it with onions, green peppers garlic butter sauce in a pan. Then we would make sandwiches 🥪
Albert: Delicious. I have sardines in olive oil now (always in stock), so a definite WILL-make. Question: Can I add the oil from the sardines into the alioli, or will that somehow throw it off and make it *_"too sardine-y"_* in flavor? Thanks again. (Fan from San Francisco, California.) *!!~
Never seen less effort into a classic dish. This one is hilarious. ;). Canned Sardines, Aoli based Mayonaise.... Hahaha... Spain on a Fork?? You are someone from a fast food store... I hope you don't live in Spain anymore...
I just started exploring sardines and was so happy to find this recipe. Lovely video, easy to follow, so I DID! I made this and LOVED it! Thank you so much for sharing such lovely recipes with us, you’re much appreciated! Stay well 🌸
I suggested frying sardines before and people thought I was crazy 🤪 I would like to try this recipe one day, have the people eat them, and then tell them it’s fried sardines 😂
I usually just eat sardines out of the can, for decades. Suddenly, I wondered if anyone ever fried them. Thanks for the video. Gonna try this. Gracias!
Spanish 🇪🇸 person here. Try this next time. I learnt after a long time that just making a flour and water slurry WITHOUT Egg makes frying things so much crispier. Seriously try it.
Boquerones, bocartes y anchoas son el mismo pescado. Es costumbre asociar el nombre "anchoa" o "anchoado" al modo de prepararlo, salazón y luego conservar en aceite.
Sadly most countries sardines are canned in disgusting sun flower oil. You can find spanish ones in olive oil in high end delikatessen, but they will cost you 8-10 EUR for a small tin.
We made these last night. It was really good, the texture was good, light crunch, but two things......the sardines broke pretty easily when coating with flour and eggs. The second thing I didnt like, was two cans of sardines was not enough for us!! lol..... we will try this with fresh sardines..
