The lyrics are literally a mixture of 702’s “Where my girls at” and Nivea’s “Don’t mess with my man” lol

No cause I expected them to be talking about them being on another level. The group is literally called girls on top and not to mention the lineup is iconic. I thought we was getting like a song about women empowerment. I ain’t complaining just definitely thought it would be different. It’s not as bad as some people are making it out to be especially since this isn’t new to western music.

LMAO why was this literally me. when i read the lyrics for the 1st pre-chorus i was like huhhhh?? the song wasn't too bad lyric wise like people are making it out to be, i just wish they flipped it so the focus was on THEM being at too high of a level rather than the man being on another level. if the song had centered around that, while keeping in line w/the same concept of "step back he's mine" it would've been better. i do love this combo of artists tho and i do like the song so imma still stream, but i do wish it was more of a "step back he's mine and you'll never get him because I'M on a level you can't reach" vs "my man is on another level, so step back bc he's mine" the girls still killed it though regardless! i couldn't keep my eyes off of seulgi in the stage performance, and taeyeon's high note >>>>>

i loved this song! obviously it’s great vocally and the performance is great visually, but i also really love the instrumental, that’s probably the reason why i love SM so much, they aren’t afraid to experiment with the sound and i loved these creepy dark sounding strings, the chants are also incredible and powerful.i don’t really have a problem with the lyrics except for the first pre chorus😭they could’ve just sang how great they are and that they’re on another level but they fixed it with the second pre-chorus. Overall this performance is definitely 10/10 and song is 9.5/10. it’s epic, iconic, powerful and legendary

to me women empowerment means independence, so being confident to tel other girls to "step back" from your guy isn't it lmao there are a lot of things to sing about and if you're doing a super group of girls, why can't they sing about how A+ game they are? they're the best of the best, some of them are legends. Obviously I'm not pointing fingers to the girls, only the company and I don't care who wrote it. This is just my take on this & I will support them, but I think this is a miss.

I so happye they finally gave Hyoyeon more quality RAP and DANCE I was also freaking out. 4 generations of kpop its crazy. They all look like a dynasty of fuck-u-up performers. I love the energy and power and i dont care if others think the lyrics of hte song are reductive, I will always stan powerful female form in kpop whether or not the story is about protecting whats yours from others (that includes a man) I think this is the most legendary thing I have seen so far.

I loved this song! Western songs like this would say, “step back, bitch” and here their saying, “step back, silly girl”! Y’all trippin’ about the lyrics for nothing and I am a woman! This song is about a woman having the confidence and assurance in her relationship to tell off another woman coming at her man! If some tried to come at your boyfriend/girlfriend you’d do the same thing!

I really like the horror like instrumentals. There’s like a haunting choir in the background which is very interesting but cool. When seulgi and taeyon duo at the first verse, the instrumentals there seemed so off tune but it worked? I think they did it on purpose haha

Also I can’t tell people how to feel bc everyone has a right to be offended about something but in my opinion the lyrics aren’t as bad as people are making it seem. As a fan girl of all these powerful women in this group, I love everything except the lyrics of the song. At first I thought it was a female empowering song until I heard step back silly girl I started having doubts until I checked out the lyrics myself. But nonetheless the girls killed it and hope they have more projects coming out soon with different song concepts ✨😎💯

I really find it interesting that a lot people were looking for a woman empowerment song specifically based off of the group name. I more so was thinking it pertained to how talented SM female artists are in the industry. Like taking all of the "top" women and putting them into this rotating group. The song is great and this is the first time I enjoyed a song by sm on my 2nd listen only because the song's beat and ofc their voices are top tier and also for the first time I am actually glad abt not understanding korean but the lyrics are such a turn off omgg..I mean the lyrics for this song might have been passable for any other group but for a group named GIRLS ON TOP who were specifically introduced with the concept of female empowerment, THIS is a straight up contradiction for me.
