It feels weird to see gotham in sunlight in most media

Ah Gotham.......*looks around, sees rampant crime, sees bat creature at night* .... I'm moving back to Metropolis.

The funny thing is that Gotham and Metropolis are both nicknames that used to be used for New York City, and despite that fact most incarnations of the two cities actually have their location be across the Delaware River right at the mouth of the Delaware Bay.

What no mention of Wayne Corp? Their business and philanthropy are all that keep the city alive.

Gotham is my favorite comic city. More than any other city, Gotham is a character onto itself. An old city, full of endless mysteries, and horrors. Gotham is like a Lovecraftian monster. It's grandeur & madness are equally infinite.

Gotham was always my favorite fictional city. Its atmosphere is quite something.

I love how the ending capitalises on the more mythical aspect of Batman, with so many stories about him, not even the Templin Institute is sure if he really exists.

Crime, Joker threatening the whole city, criminals breaking out of the asylum, batman prowling at night only for the public to see the joker mysteriously defeated and in the asylum the next day. ehh, thats just a tuesday, it will occur again next week

Very interesting take on Gotham City. Surprised however that although it allured to Batman's existence, it was presented as "speculation" rather than as fact. I think Batman is owed a little more love than that but I understand that Batman's presence is entirely a whole bread basket of it's own and would overshadow the narrative on Gotham. Interesting, interesting.

so like "hey look everyone who ever lived in this area died an awful terrible death or mysterious disappearance. Lets build a huge city here!" sounds like great urban planning from the get go

Gotham is uniquely terrifying because it is so insane, but also so similar to real cities like Detroit, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. What a fantastic and well presented video....and way to give the Batman the exact treatment he deserved: mysterious, terrifying, and shadowy.

Woah! This is the first time I heard an account of Gotham City without naming Batman :D

The Bat ain't no freakin' myth! I seen him! I was walkin' home from my late job headed through The Cauldron, when I went past a couple guys trying ta stick up a gas station! They ran out through tha front when the Bat was there waitin'! It swooped down and cracked the dude with the bag! The other guy pulled his gun and shot at it but the bullets went straight through like it weren't even there! Then it shot some kind of claws or somethin' out of it's hand and the dude dropped his piece. I was thinkin' "Ho shit!" Then he took the guy down, an I swear I heard him scream as the Bat leaned over him, covering the guy with its wings. Looked like it was drinking his blood, ya know? Then it strung him up with some kind of web or somethin' and it looked over at where I was... It's eyes were white-hot, like a really hot piece of metal, ya know? I swear to god I thought it was gonna eat me, but then it's wings opened and it flew away. I gotta tell ya, knowing the Bat is out there makes me feel a lot safer walking home from my late job now

I just love that you didn't talk about Batman and just kept him as a mythical creature Also would you do a review on Metropolis?

I would actually really love to see how the Institute would handle covering the Batman now....

The thing that perplexes me the most about Gotham and Batman in particular is how when one of Batman's villains comes to town, the circle of events ALWAYS repeats itself. The villain escapes from Arkham, kills a number of people and stages some deadly crimes, Batman fights and defeats them and they're immeditely sent back to Arkham and then another villain escapes, kills a number of people and commits some deadly crime, fights Batman, returned to Arkham and repeats over and over again with only the villain in question changing Things in Gotham would be SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOO much simpler if they only had the death penalty but NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO, they have to be merciful and try to rehabilitate them over and over no matter how many times it fails What is the definition of insanity again?

I find it amazing that this video comes out just as I started playing the Batman:Arkham series.

I loved the video. Gotham is always an interesting place in comics for me. I would love to see a video on Reach from Halo or even more, a video about the Covenant's city High Charity. I think those would make for great atlas videos.

This was good. I must have missed the cataclysm though. Might I recommend doing the Star League next. It is one of the few science fiction factions that I have grown really fond of. It represents hope, peace and diplomacy in a galaxy filled with war, petty feuds and cycles of violence.

I was thinking that is a shame the Marvel Universe doesn't have a city as interesting as Gotham, but then I thought that it has Madripoor, and that city has an story almost as rich as Gotham. You should do a video about it sometime.

I find it hard to believe that Gotham city and Metropolis are right across from each other (Gotham-South Jersey | Metropolis-Delaware) Gotham is always cloudy, rainy and stormy while metropolis is bright, sunny and clear

Oh, and something that I do like a lot is the Batman Beyond series and seeing how Gotham has evolved in a cyberpunk setting. Sure, there are still gangs and the occasional supervillain. But the real evil isn't the drug lords of old, nor the mafia. It is the megacorporations that basically own the government and can do as they please.

I always saw Gotham as New York in the late 70s and 80s. Gritty, smoky, dangerous and dark with manhattan’s stone building and skyscrapers. Metropolis is the future and New York’s bright clean glass skyscrapers and the way the world is turning now. To make a Gotham present day is gaining a lot of the problems of yesteryear. Yes there’s still crime but not like it was back then. Everyone’s too plugged in, we all have a supercomputer in our pocket and the internet bring us just generally away from Gotham as it was. I believe that the closest you could get to Gotham be it present day or the next century would be looking at Shadowrun, Blade Runner or Judge Dredd for inspirations of those dystopian cities.
