It's so unfortunate how the game turned out because the Bat-Family are absolutely 100% capable of holding their own game but this only made people think otherwise. Really hope that it's not the only time they get their own dedicated game.
Sorry to all the people who wanted a Nightwing or Redhood game. Knowing WB This is the closest you're all going to get for a while with these characters outside of being support characters in another Batman game. The biggest mistake was going for the Ubisoft-like Rpg elements in a time where people largely sick of that crap. But I called it back in the lead up to launch.
Just another game in the trinity of "not how to make a superhero game" It's just not as bad as Suicide squad kill the justice league, and Avengers but that isn't saying much.
@@Guyinthetie Gotham knights is being kicked and whipped in the balls and Suicide squad kill the justice league is having them sliced off with rusty machete. Both are not pleasant experiences.
@@Guyinthetie the hole crime thing with interrogating and such is good in concept but not in gameplay if they made it better than maybe but it's just not in this game I honestly think it's a good concept and would like to see it more just they gotta do better cause how it works in this game is bad
4:18 Surprised you didn't recognise it. The T. Rex is one of the most famous trophies in the Batcave. It's been a mainstay since 1946, where Batman and Robin are invited to a hunt on Dinosaur Island, which at the time existed as a park filled with animatronic dinosaurs. (this was also long before Jurassic Park)
Yeah I don't remember it at all! Thank you phantasm you always a well of knowledge!! I will start forcing you into a call while scripting these videos if your not careful 💪🏻👔
26:17 Yeah that was in fact a thing during Grant Morrison's run on Batman when Damian Wayne was introduced. Used the Man-Bat formula to create an army of Man-Bat assassins. Also sidenote, it's Actually called League of Assassins not Shadows.
Damn I must of missed that as these seemed out of nowhere to me and yeah I kept calling it LoS... Thanks Christopher Nolan for getting that stuck in my brain 😑
@@Guyinthetie - Hey don't worry, that's how they call in it the game: "The League of Shadows". You didn't make a mistake ^^ the League of Shadows also appears unbder that particular name in the live action show *Gotham* , in the animated show *Young Justice* , in the DCAMU movie "Justice League Dark: Apokolips War", and in many comic book storylines since DC Rebirth started in 2016, as a splinter group of the League of Assassins. So it's not just a Nolan thing anymore ^^ I think Chris Nolan took the name from Batman:TAS & Superman:TAS, in which the League is called "The Society of Shadows" That's just a speculation from me, though...
I think the biggest reason this game got such bad reception is cause it was living in the shadow of the Arkham games. A lot of the negative reception came from people going into this expecting another Arkham game, but when they didn't get that they bitched about it
@@TheSaharay1 Yeah, overhyped fans have a tendency to make up shit, like thinking that the devs said that a specific feature was gonna be in the game when in reality that feature was never planned, for example: Overhyped Cyberpunk 2077 fans were under this delusion that the game was planned to have a Third Person camera mode as well as multiplayer when in reality, CDPR never planned to add those features in
in my opinion i enjoyed the game but I think what killed Gotham knights was the fact it was so heavily compared to the rocksteady batman games. I enjoyed it mostly because I always wanted to play as red hood in a video game and I thought the story was okay defiantly not the best but I defiantly feel like there were some missed opportunities in there and I think it was just miss handled mostly, and a bit rushed.
The reason why traversal is so slow especially the bike was because the devs couldn't get the map to load fast enough whilst also keeping a consistent fps. So they actually made the batcycle top speed 40mph 😂😂😂
I do like the game and play it now and then for a couple of hours, i just chill out and explore and do a few missions.....i like batgirls fighting style and the outfits look great.
I’m sure there were plans for DLC’s for Gotham Knights. They must of waited and see how the game turns out. Since the game didn’t do well we never got it. Rocksteady jumped the gun and thought the suicide squad was going to be successful and they already working on the DLC’s before the game was even released. They must of regretted on the DLC’s since they are losing more money because of it.
It wasn't that bad. 6 out of 10. The story was average, and the gameplay was OK. I didn't like the grind and repetitive crimes and how all 4 characters were very similar play style.
Well, there actually *is* a capeless outfit for her called the "Beyond suit". It's a paid DLC and was originally part of the pre-order bonuses if I'm not mistaken.
Oh well there goes any chance of Nightwing and Redhood getting their own a solo games. They'll be relegated to supporting roles in whatever Batman game we get 10 years from now.
@@Guyinthetie Not if it's like Gotham Knights. I remember saying the following in the lead up to launch. "If it succeeds then every DC game going will be Rpg-lite looter crap and if it fails hopefully we go back to the traditional single-player narrative driven experience without the fluff". The moment the numbers popped up in the gameplay reveal after avengers and that gameplay demo in April 2022 I knew it was curtains for this game.
You're going to laugh. I think it was supposed to be a game as a service and that they changed their mind at the end of the development. It feels unfinished like if they had planned some more content after launch. More gear level and stats, more customization, a better MODS fusion system, maybe some more side story missions etc.
That's surely a gameplay loop that can't possibly fail 🤔 Jokes aside looking at the building blocks for Gotham knights I completely agree with you, at least they had the sense to backpedal on it 👔
Yes the game is horrid. Terribly rendered in the open world, Story was mid, Gameplay an fight mechanics are GARBAGE af. the way you upgrade characters is honestly boring an sad af. the Trials for everything is just basic an boring. Feels like a copy an paste of an early 2000's arcade game w an arkham spinoff.
I wouldn't say the gameplay was garbage but it was most definitely meh.. considering we got such a basic fighting system because of the multiplayer and its a dead online game now is sad 💪🏻👔
I enjoyed it but I'm not an idiot I paid £3 for my copy so even though my experience was not so bad if I paid that full RRP at launch I would be refunding faster then light 😅 So made sure to cover that in the video.
The league of Assassins actually did have Man-bat soldiers called Man-bat commandos! This happens in the comics and one or two of the animated movies with Damian.
I feel like a lot of the criticism for this game is "it isn't Batman arkham" and that "*insert character* doesn’t play like Batman," or "*insert thing* isn't like what it is in batman arkham ____" If you go into the game expecting a different game than Arkham then you'll have a pretty good time, but if you go in expecting an Arkham game you won't get what you're looking for, because it isn't an Arkham game, and it was never marketed to be an Arkham game people just expected it to be one
It's Arkham-lite and they literally tried to copy and paste the combat style. Your not wrong in the end it was a different game but it's not really the players fault for getting them vibes it was obviously intentional 💪🏻👔
@@Guyinthetie kinda 1's boss fights are kinda meh nowadays but the open world is still More the funnest things to explore and cause chaos and the second one has better bosses but the character still controls horribly when your inside a building and your trying to fight something
I don't mind that Bruce didn't know about the Court, that's how it was in the comics and established them as the most secret of Gotham's secret societies. For them to stay off Batmans radar so thoroughly for so long, only being exposed by the smallest of clues collected over a decade despite being so dug in to the foundation of the city made them so imposing in their introductory story.
Could you do Bloodborne video please? I would love to see it but I noticed that your souls videos aren't getting many views sadly. Watching you since the Arkham videos, loving what you do✌️
Yeah not as much as some but honestly doesn't stop me from doing vids if I want to, honestly the Bloodborne vid will most likely happen when we get it running on PC well or finally get that remaster 💪🏻👔
It's kinda insane, when both where revealed I had 0 hopes for Gotham knights while SS kill the justice league looked like it would follow up on the epicness of arkham knight.. Now I tried GK and did not like it.. But at least it was just very bland and meh... The less said about how SS turned out the better..
Did you know there was some concept art that was revealed early last year that showed off Catwoman, Damien Wayne, Solomon Grundy, and The Architect that we're most likely planned to be in the game? As much as I don't like this game, or Damien, for that matter, I'm kind of sad that they weren't included either in the Base game or as DLC. Selina and Damien are important BatFam members (BatCat for the win), and Solomon Grundy is a cool, big brute type of character that, because the game is severely lacking in the villain department, in terms of both quanity and quality, he would've been great to see again. Plus, fighting Talia as Selina or Damien, even if the boss fight is utter rubbish, would still carry such weight. Not so much the Architect, even as much as i appreciate, whenever a comic book movie, game, show, etc, utilises an underutilised villain, he feels a bit random.
Throughout comic book character history, some earlier characters just couldnt "make it" into the comtemporary zeitgeist Some are lucky to endure, and some newer ones gets to shine in the limelight as well, but not necessarily gain the iconic status yet I wonder how or who it will be in the future to be a fandom darling
Something I think is pretty crazy is this game came out around the time of Kevin Conroys death and I chose to see this game as a sort of coping game for the fans who grew up with him as Batman even though it’s not him voicing Batman I still like the game and find it WAY more respectful of Kevin’s tenure as the dark knight then THAT GAME
Surprisingly enough I beat the game AND New Game +...the only word I have for it is MEDIOCRE. It clearly had some potential but the game had too much fluff and not enough substance Unnecessary mechanics like crafting, RPG loot and grinds The combat had little to no depth, the story was CW-level of writing (for better and worse) and the missions had little to no variety
29:38 I'm sorry, but what difficulty did you play on for that to happen with Talia at all? The strength of the enemies are always relative to your current level and power (unless you just started new game plus, but that changed as you get further in), so I really don't understand how you did that much damage to her. Granted, I played robin (personal fav to play) on my first playthrough.
I played on medium, surprised that's the case as when my gear wasn't optimised I got stomped by the enemies I know they scale with your level but gear doesn't seem to factor from what I can see 💪🏻👔
@@Guyinthetie Yea I'm probably wrong on the gear part. To be honest, I realized that I don't really remember how that boss went down with robin all too well, so my experience probably was the same as yours. I do remember that I struggled with Talia on every other character, besides red hood since I saved him for my last playthrough, and they were stronger than my robin during their playthrough.
The biggest problem with this game is it came out doing the height off the Grifter. So youtubers all figure out if they hate games and create outrage they can generate viewership
It's not bad but for the price it's asking for people would rather get a "great" game instead, you don't get praised for being not horrible at something, you get praised because you are good at something after all.
The gear stuff is just so stupid. If you don't upgrade it, then you will get arbitrarily one shot and have to do 100 combos on a basic grunt to take people down.. It doesn't belong in a Batman game... And the cherry on top is of you don't have good enough gear, you can't even do stealth takedowns on enemies, just an initial critical hit. The bike is stupid slow, and traversal is so slow even with the extra mobility powers. The combat doesn't flow well and is just a slog, and the DLCs only exasperate this, as they are focused specifically on combat, not to mention the ways certain floors are designed, they're literally impossible to beat solo regardless of skill proficiency and gear, simply due to never ending waves of basic grunts.
@@Guyinthetie like the story makes sense, instead of ras al gul, nightfall protocol, code black to the bat family but Jason, gets reached out by one of them then court of owls. Simple story
I only recently replayed GK and yes, it's a clunky experience. Traversal isn't really that much fun and combat is limited to attack & dodge. It does look great though on PS5, albeit being locked to 30fps and, my god - Batgirl might just be the hottest female video game character ever created. With all her assets, kinky takedown and combat animations, I'd say she alone is worth the price of admission.
I bought this game on sale for a little over $30 and almost immediately had buyer's remorse. Its far from the worst game I've played but its just boring and the gear system just feels really arbitrary.
To be fair, I don't think Gotham Knights and Arkham: Origins are a good comparison. Arkham: Origins is a good and funny game, it's merely not as good as the main series but is still great in its own right; the only ones who genuinely not like it are the really vocal minority of the playerbase that can't get over its bias due to it not having been developed by Rocksteady. It's different from Gotham Knights, which has been generically disliked.
I genuinely like, gotham knights the story writing isn't the best at times but for me I own the playstation five version it's digital along with my arhkam games. I don't own a gaming pc yet, but once I do I will buy this game when it gets a price drop.
@@Guyinthetie I will say this, I love console gaming but I also seen a lot from pc gaming and I think both are equally good in my opinion especially mods but you do make a good point.
I think this game is good just not what people were expecting. You can tell they cared it’s just they clearly were under so much pressure they were scared to deviate from the Arkham systems and in the end it’s what killed it since it was trying to be unique and be Arkham. So it kinda suffers but I do like the characters and the story but damn that batcake 😜
I love to see a gotham game comeback but they a new game in vr but it not the same as Gotham city or Gotham Arkham knight. and Batman Arkham origins but it the same in vr i wish it was one console not vr big thumbs down on vr
i mean, i can kinda see why Elden Ring & Dark Souls is in the related, since, they share similar combat. Same kind of dodging but that’s all i can see why it’s related. Still pretty dumb tho.
This game was still way better than Spider-Man 2, especially if you play as Babs the whole game. Them buns... And honestly, the writing is on the same level of stupidity as SM2, and the structure of the gameplay is similar. The melee is way better. Neither game really makes you feel like the heroes themselves, though, unlike Arkham or the first SM.
I'm a big fan of the red hood story as well! Shame the main plot in Gotham needs to be able to be played by all the heros so he can't cook... One day he will get his own game 💪🏻👔
Gotham knights was mid at worst, Suicide squad was actually really bad I don't see the comparison objectively speaking but if you want to view them the same whatever floats your boat
I know Arkham Knight is supposed to be the gold standard for representation of Gotham as a city, but I'm one of those people who liked the Gotham Knights version of the city better. Maybe it's the lighting effects, but this is what I imagine Gotham as. Buildings with bright lights at the apex but dark alleys at the bottom, numerous street lights that still never properly illuminate the surroundings and are there more for the aesthetics, and smoke. All these things come together to create a sense of disparity, 'gloom' and just the atmosphere of darkness in general that the brightly lit version in Arkham Knight didn't do for me.
I agree with the lighting and the smog around the tall buildings adds so much I love it but the architecture is too flat and boring for me. If they gave Gotham Knights more gothic looking buildings it would of been a slam dunk for me aesthetically 💪🏻👔
@@Guyinthetie I like the scale, the Arkham Kinght map feel like you're in a part of Gotham, but only a few districts, Gotham Knights feels bigger, more like it is the complete city. I agree the architecture is perhaps a bit generic, combine the Knight architecture and the actual map and it'd probably be the definitve Gotham for me. I really like the district that is built in an old dock, that multi level area is really cool to me and a feature of the map that isn't mentioned enough when discussing the gamel.
