How we feel about heat has a lot to do about the level of humidity, and how effective we feel air conditioner are has a lot to do with getting them to work below the dew point. For example, at 32C and 70%RH the dew point is about 25C. If I set my air conditioner to 25C the air still feels damp and uncomfortable, setting it at 24C and it's very confortable. I suspect that when set to "dry" your air conditioner plays with the temperature to get it below the dew point.
