I’m black and Ive been going to Howard Beach since I was a little kid in the 1980s I lived in Canarsie when it was all Italian in the 1980s. None of them people bothered me or my family that dude was trying to rob somebody and he got beat with a bat
Back in those days Al Sharpton was always leading marches at every racial event and one day I saw him at a military show at Ft Hamilton Army base in Bklyn. He was there with his kids just walking around checking out the show in a big open field. One of the tables had WW2 guns you could pick up and check out and there was a bazooka (like an old school grenade launcher but huge) and when I was holding it I happened to see Sharpton standing alone about 100 ft away. My brother was taking pictures and I told him to back way up and take a picture of me pointing the bazooka at him. I thought it would've been at great pic and I was already thinking about having it framed but my bro refused to do it. It still pisses me off I couldn't get that shot. I mean the picture not the shot.
Hey Jeff! Not sure you remember we spoke briefly. But Nick Minucci that’s my first cousin! Great video you just did on him. Howard Beach is basically a safe haven for the many, many blacks and other minorities that shop & eat freely and safely every day and night on Crossbay Boulevard. I see black men pulling wheelies on motorcycles and riding bicycles on the sidewalks without any problems. So much for HB being a racist neighborhood. PS Nick took one for the team.

Very good video Jeff, you tackled it head on. Race is a very divisive issue and is hard to cover without some perceived bias either for or against. If those guys were there to nail some cars that was very stupid, but many people felt before this incident in particular, Howard Beach was a place if black or hispanic was not safe to be there alone or in a group, and there were enough incidents to give that some credence. Be that as it may racial tensions are high in many places, but not everything is based on race solely, that can be easily hyped as well.

I think he hit the nail on the head. If it happens in Howard Beach and the victim is anything other than Italian they will immediately revert back to the 86 incident and assume it was racially motivated. I'm glad he made it home.

Great job I never heard this story B4.. BUT IM SORRY if Some1 breaks in2 my house, my mom 85YRS.. I’ll do whatever I have 2DO TO PROTECT MY FAMILY FRIENDS..& like U said it wasn’t like these kids were out joy riding and just having fun. They were out committing, armed robbery stealing vehicles and God knows what else could have expired throughout the night so I think justice was not served and the kid should have not spent a day in jail.

This kid got screwed by Mayor Bloomberg because it was during his reelection campaign and Bloomberg used the situation to show he no tolerance for any racism in New York, even though there was no racism in this case. I know i lived through this in HB during this time.
Did the victim have some kind of milatary service? I could have sworn I first saw this on front page of the Daily News with his Army uniform I believe. Very smart of them to use that pic. At first I thought it was a dead US soldier. US servicemen were at a very high popularity level at that time.

Sounds like NYC could use "Fat Nick" Minucci and his bat in 2024. I've worked with violent juveniles & saw many situations. In 8 years, I saw a lot of black-on-white , but the only white-on-black incidents were self-defense. The black-on-white incidents were always downplayed. That was my experience.
His statement of them convicting howard beach spot on but people kno who to approach and get physical with especially if somebody running from u if it aint about no money or they're direspecting your family then mind your business if he was that tuff no weapon wouldn't had to be needed smfh ..
It was racially motivated, and the jail sentence fits the crime... if there were people of any color even white stealing, etc. then he should have called the police... that's their job not his to take that into his own hands.

I think it was a case of peer pressure and the kid acted as would the majority in Howard Beach in a (mob rule) mind set, I'm sure it could have happened to any of the other pursuers had they been armed with a bat, I don't think he was a racist.
Good video with plenty of detail. Robber gets caught robbing, robber then complains to the police he has been beat up and robbed. From the UK so not sure how it works in the US. Would the robber have been able to claim financial compensation from the government for his injuries, or would he have to pursue Nick through the courts for it ?.
