He never wanted to be famous, just make good art. He still plays with his band The Baiscs, under his real name Wouter "Wally" De Backer. He's the drummer and occasionally does vocals, he'll most likely never take up the name Gotye again.

This video explains the process of putting oneself back together again after a relationship, after the significant other is internalized and eventually dejected from the parting of ways. I can also see it as being an attempt to mend the relationship again, collecting parts from the past in attempt to heal. Interesting and thought-provoking piece of art. Seems like a psychologist's wet dream.

I'm identifying with the video. Sometimes, we do things that hurt people, and tear them apart. And when all is done, we try to pick all the pieces and put em back together. However, this pieces had become something totally different, and we can't get the things back to where it all started. It's really sad, but life goes on at the end.

For me this video tells the story of relationships and the chasing of it... Wanting that creation of life with someone.... The little black ball thing reminds me of a type of seamen cell being chased by a desire that can never be grasped yet so close through the phases of life and world...

To me this song and video tells the story of feeling like the knight in shining armor in a relationship. The fall is the fall from the relationship in turmoil. Scattering pieces of the image and the naked vulnerable person behind the armor then attempting to chase the missing pieces in order to then reclaim the position of hero. Who the significant other saw them as and who they feel they ought to have been but trust was lost. Notice the chasing of the knights helmet and the jumbled up mess in the middle of the pictures trying to put things back together. All in all it seems to be saying in order to be with anyone else you first must be whole.

To me this video captures the essence of life. People are chasing after things, other people,goals, sometimes even dreams that may feel so far away. Sometimes we give ourselves another chance to stand up and try again until we reach what we want/need, sometimes we give other people a chance too and they may give us a chance back in return. It's a song of life hope and purity..

I've always interpreted this song as a parent or guardian singing it to their child. Like the kid has been let down before by false promises from said person and that person realizes how badly they've messed up is pleading with the kid to give them a chance to make things right again.

God, I love this music videos. They're such an explosion of creativity. It's like imagination had a really fun night with Picasso, Van Gogh, Leonardo DaVinci, and Andy Warhol, then woke up in the morning sick to its stomach, but with a mind full of ideas, then threw them up all over this video. The track has strong personal associations for me. I was playing it while I was packing to leave my home of 19 years. It made think of happy and sad things as I danced in my front room in the sunshine. Thank you Gotye. X
