Civilians owned warships, cannons, firearms and helped fight in wars. Well-regulated means they have enough gear, firearms, provisions, etc. to be able to fight properly. It's not about regulating to remove or ban but to equip people. Also, you are forgetting in that same amendment say "the right of people to bear arms shall not be infringed".

The reason why we have the second amendment is to prevent tyranny in our country. Gun control is just another way to reduce the populations' ability to fight back against those in power that want to oppress its civilians. There should be NO DEBATE whatsoever. That’s a dumb policy, good guys with guns just complicate the situation. How do you distinguish them from criminals? how do you ensure that they are properly trained and listen to authorities? They should never happen and since mental health WILL NEVER BE FUNDED in the same way as the military, corporations, nor the weapons manufacturing complex, we need to arm everyone, including children. That's the only way to keep us safe. With about 20% of our population mentally ill and folks who have battery charges or accusations ( like many police officers), we need to defend ourselves against them. The root cause of all of our violence: media, income disparity, homelessness, privatised prison profit system, violence on movies and games, development of more dangerous weapons, mental health, and on and on. These are unnecessary to fix as the solution is GUNS! One state passed a law making it legal to shoot police in self defense if they enter a home illegally, without a warrant. Another state made it a felony for any police officer to stand by and watch an officer using obvious excessive for. A female office was recently convicted under that law.
