Government calls for more mature approach as FCO protests against Guardia Civil incursions into BGTW

The Government says it’s seeking a full and detailed briefing of yesterday’s incursion when a Guardia Civil launch followed a jet ski into Gibraltar waters.
It will also be asking questions on any possible illegal executive actions taken by Spanish state vessels in, what it terms, the indisputably British waters around Gibraltar. It has been seeking details of the circumstances that gave rise to the chase, the identity of the individual on the jet ski and his illegal entry into Catalan Bay and the reasons for him fleeing the scene.
In a statement on Sunday as incursions continued, it says the Government is clear that Spain's claim to the waters around Gibraltar is fundamentally legally flawed in every material respect. Sending state vessels into BGTW, it states, does not alter that in any way, as senior Spanish diplomats, politicians and lawyers know. It adds this has an air of the faintly ridiculous to see them pursue this stillborn policy which only creates tension and division between people and law enforcement agencies on both sides of the immoveable international dividing line, both on land and on sea.
The Government believes a more mature approach would help heal decades of mistreatment and foster new understanding. It adds this would be miles better than just accentuating the negative policies of decades past by putting law enforcement officials at loggerheads.

It is best to see these incursions for what they are, i.e. expressions of impotent rage.

What incursions?

@anonnemo2504 17 дней назад
@@user-hq6hb2xv4n Those defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as "A sudden and unwanted entrance to a place or area controlled by others". I would say my choice of word was appropriate, therefore.

@@anonnemo2504 The area is very obviously not "controlled by others", lol. Anyway, the Guardia Civil simply patrols the bay of Algeciras when and where they need to. Gibraltarians should be questioning why Guardia Civil has to do the job their police forces can't or do not want to do.

@@user-hq6hb2xv4n It very much is controlled by authorities other than Spanish ones (see the Treaty of Utrecht) and the Guardia Civil should keep their noses out. We know what's happening, though. This is just the Spanish authorities "jerking off".

@@user-hq6hb2xv4n How would you suggest the Gibraltar authorities prevent these incursions? It is controlled by authorities other than Spanish ones (see the Treaty of Utrecht) so far as is possible, given resources, and the Guardia Civil should keep their noses out. We know what's happening, though. This is just the Spanish authorities "j*****g off".
