That's going to be the issue going forward. People will leave and no one will want to move here.

Sadly a National Govt will change little & Maori control will get stronger as now many areas of life as with the hospitals under Maori control. The highly skilled already leaving will accelerate namely doctors, anaesthetists clinicians etc due to Racist policy’s now law in NZ. Most kiwis are ignorant as to Control Maori now have & in Law across all spheres of NZ.

And why do you think the "masses" are leaving the country? it's not because of the increased use of a language that's ridiculous. it's because of the higher wages abroad, better standard of living, more opportunities, cheaper expenses, access to more amenities and activities, better transport and infrastructure etc etc. Now you want to talk about prosperity, how can you call NZ relying on Agriculture and Tourism prosperity, A country that exports 90% of it's produce for economic survival, selling said produce at a discounted cost overseas and then to make up for that expense, charges kiwi's the premium price, That is economic prosperity, not social, and I believe cost of living is one of the common reasons for people leaving NZ. Or NZ's past liberal workplace policies, that allowed employers to set the wages in NZ, which most of the time we're relatively low to turn more of a profit which makes many kiwi's work harder for less pay, that is economic prosperity not social. I have heard stories and seen it first hand the racism that is still present in the health system both now and in the past, Maori having lower quality of care, lower prioirty relative to their ethnic counterparts, and not only in health, education, workplace, everyday life and you think NZ once bore equal people, funny. I find it more hypocritical that you reminesce of when "we were once an equal people with equal rights in a true democracy" and then you go on to say "for the minority 5% + rainbows" very equal indeed lol. Many Kiwi's especially young people are in favour of Maori having a greater presence in society, but it's mostyl the one's who are afraid of change that are the loudest to argue, National and ACT appeal to them becasue they call for the status quo, even when the status quo hasn't worked, and becasue of that they have a loud following of people who come up with arguments like "People are leaving NZ becasue Maori is coming back" rididculous.

Referendum yes, and binding. Another issue is, - successive governments have not supplied, or looked after our health workers, and as a result have been forced to look overseas to fill the gaps. We have been failed miserably. Governments, - then, and now, have not done their job. So yes,- as a result bring in Health professionals, - Surgeons, Doctors - Nurses etc, and look after them. But, do we need more 2 dollar shops, pop up food shops, or real estate people etc, who change their first names to sell NZ homes to NZers or sell NZ homes to people of their own cultures. Is that the reality of future NZ? That's a worry.

Either way having one part of society given extra weight to their voices simply because of happenstance of their ancestry doesn’t usually work out well for any civilisation. Co-governance is not the cause for NZ becoming a third world country nor is it the biggest problem. the biggest problem in NZ is lack of investment in infrastructure, building more homes and how we go about doing that, and divirsifying the economy into other sectors.

The treaty in 1840 saw the end of genocide of lesser Maori tribes and Moriori who after 20 years of musket wars were in bad shape and the genocide of Moriori in 1835 meant the treaty in 1840 put an end to land grab by Maori of other Maori tribal lands in war, slavery by Maori, and cannibalism. Most Maori chiefs were very happy with the treaty as they saw they would be protected by the crown and the survival of their people and equal not only to the European but to all other Maori tribal people.

Return the stolen land and then we can talk. My.grandparenrts went to war and returned to have their land sold to a white family. Still no compensation for it ever since.

Those leaving NZ not because of Maorification as you put it, but purely for better paid jobs, cheaper homes etc. Movement of people between NZ and Australia has been going on for numerous years, nothing new. When Aussie is doing well most Kiwis go there and vice versa. Most young people have been exposed to Maori language from their school years. Older people do not like change, thy prefer the status quo. Recently read a recent arrival from UK complaining to Luxon about too much Maori language here. What a joke! Should have stayed in UK instead.

Tell that to the Irish , or the Welsh or the Canuks where all their signs are bilingual, and no one batters an eyelid!

@@manuhamoa By diverting resources for co-governance and such New Zealand can only lose money and influence in the broader region. Together with pretty much being expelled from 5-eyes and endangering it's security arrangements with the US it may have long term systemic issues. Going from a first world, highly developed country to a country with issues in most areas is a path that South Africa took a long time to get to, but should be cautionary for New Zealand as its policies might lead to similar outcomes.

I emigrated to NZ from London 20 years ago. I agree with you. My UK family tell me I did the right thing - at the end of the day we are around 5 million people as opposed to 68 million on a similar land mass. No boat people entering our borders either.

Interesting point, National Party has governed for 5 periods during the 20th and 21st centuries, and has spent more time in government than any other NZ political party.
