Another awesome video! I was always curious about this mask as well, i ended up getting the gp5 a long time ago. I always wanted to get a filter bag and hose for the gp5. Also, your other video about the filter specifically taught me that the one i recieved has in fact been opened before, as it wasnt wrapped nor did it pop. It actually looked a bit worn, now that i recall. Im sure itll be fine haha
Well, it doesn’t always pop, nor is the wrapping a mandatory sign. It’s just a good way to tell. I would just make sure that the filter isn’t specifically worn or damaged.
I never had a chance to see or use an M40, so I cannot construct a based opinion on it. From my knowledge, it is the counterpart to Soviet PMK series, and I have a good opinion on those. I would also be surprised if the US had a bad general purpose gasmask.
I've heard that the GP-5 filter contains asbestos, but different sources say different things - some believe that its fine to breathe if the filter is not damaged while others advise not using old filters at all. Don't know about the GP-4 though as there is very little modern information online about it probably best not to breathe too much. Hope this helps!
@@INSVRGENT The asbestos is presumed to be contained in a type of Soviet paper fabric which is used in most gasmask filters. There are different sources with different opinions, but the ones I tend to believe more suggest that the kind of asbestos used in these filters is far less dangerous than the kind westerners are afraid of, it has something to do with particle shape within the fiber or something like that. However, there could be a bunch of other unfavorable stuff in old filters, especially if they were not stored properly. There is more detail to the asbestos thing but overall, I would not suggest using old filters seriously if there is any modern alternative on hand for multiple reasons.
@@NyxJinxxx Not really, no. They are both general purpose civil defense gasmasks. If anything, GP-4u is less comfortable to wear because of the connector tube and large filter. Important to note that for practical purposes neither are a good option as of right now because the filters are very old and expired. Their filtration capabilities are probably very degraded by now if they even remain at all. If you absolutely have to use one of them, GP-5 is better because it is likely newer.
I am probably going to make a video on the actual asbestos content in Soviet filters and the danger of it with all the details at this point. This is probably the 30th comment on asbestos. Thank you for your concern though.
Far from every, it mostly applies to older ones, but where there is, the asbestos is contained in a type of fabric used in filters, but the type of asbestos is different from the kind feared in the west and is a lot less cancerogenic. The microscopic fibers are of a different shape.
@@Silojedeburek19862 Whether you want to wear it or not is for you to decide. The general rule I would follow is if the filter isn't new, is damaged, or you are just unsure if its in good condition, avoid wearing it. In terms of asbestos, according to my information, the kind of asbestos used in Soviet filters does not present any additional threat to your respiratory system. But that is just my educated opinion on this topic.
Привет из россии! У нас противогазов хоть жопой жуй, особенно ГП-7, ГП-4у, ГП-5 и другие. Они стоят очень дёшево. Я сам коллекционирую противогазы, самый редкий экземпляр это лицевая часть от противогаза ПРВ-М четвёртого размера из последних партий. Удачи тебе товарищ! ;)
