Yes, they are very expensive but worth every penny if you can afford it!
Full disclosure: I am a TNVC staff member. However my opinions would be exactly the same if I wasn’t. These things are absolutely incredible.

I haven’t answered/replied on the $$ comments so here you go: Of course these are not for the common person. That should be obvious? It’s not any different from let’s say a Ferrari, etc. in that while most will not buy GPNVGs, there are enough folks with the financial resources who can. We’ve sold quite a few of these to plain ole civilians who can afford them and good for them. No need to hate on them. And that’s who this video is intended for (those with the means) and also just because GPNVG’s are damn cool 😎

@Emmanuel Goldstein a big DoD/GOV contracting company like L3 puts a lot into developing these types of types products. When you factor in R&D, new materials requirements & cost, etc etc they’re going to charge accordingly and these costs are not commercial user friendly lol

@DaveSmith-cp5kj 2 года назад
@@santanagamingcinema perfectly clear. Rugged? I don't know. I'm not about to slam them against the ground and find out. :P The build quality is good though. AFAIK kommandostore only sells the housing now, as they have run out of tubes, and I advise buying the housing direct from china and save a few thousand dollars instead of buying it through KS. The maker is Lindu Optics and the price for the housing alone they quoted me was $4000. Here on youtube there is a guy who posted the STL files for an SLA printed housing which I also made using spare tubes I had lying around. This makes the price of housing essentially free although it is not as good as the real deal because it lacks a prism to merge the image. It's not that big of a deal as long as your head is in motion (to negate the black bars of blind spot.) Lindu also makes bino and monocular housings if you can't find them. My only real complaint with buying from Lindu is that you are supporting the tech development a communist regime that is trying to kill us (seriously, read their company mission statement). They are deep China, not even Hong Kong.

97 degree FOV is really, really good. My Valve Index VR headset only gets about 110 degree FOV in a best case scenario (measured it this morning using a special steamvr FOV environment). My issue with these is that they appear to be massively overpriced. A good quality PVS-14 costs $4,500 (ish). A good quality DTNVS costs about $10,232. So, it seems you're paying roughly $5,000 per tube. Basic math would dictate that $5,000 * 4 = $20,000. Why are these on sale for $40,399? That's double what the cost should be. I could see $25,000, but $40,399 is a bit crazy.

I wish L3 was less nonsensical with the pricing. RPO makes the lenses for this device last I have heard. So figure, you're paying roughly $16,000 in tubes, $4000 in lenses, and so that leaves the housing, which makes up another... $25,000? Idk man the pricing on this thing doesnt add up especially since panos have been around for aviation since like 2006. Think about that. I still appreciate that TNVC helped bring these to the market.

Is there a reason they went straight from two tubes to four? Like couldn't they have just angled two tubes and used that prism thing so you'd have a little wider FOV than normal NODs but without all the bulk of these as an intermediary between the two? I see how these would be more practical for pilots and drivers since they don't need to crawl around through bushes and mountains, but I imagine the guys who actually have to carry these things for miles dangling off their heads aren't the hugest fans of them.

QTNVG are his competitor, lol. That said, I do have one of those and they are G2G. If you are an IIT snob you won't like them as they come from Kommando store unless you import the housing only from China and supply your own tubes, as KS uses minor blemished tubes (completely irrelevant from a pragmatic POV though). The bridge is uglier than the real GPNVG bridge, but altogether functional, which is all that matters at the end of the day. QTNVG claims a slightly more expanded FOV but while I have used an ANVIS-18 before I don't have access to them anymore to make a direct comparison. If you want the bare minimum, there is a Korean guy who 3D printed conversions to turn an airsoft GPNVG into accepting real IIT. He posted the files for download. I had spare blemished tubes from previous bino repairs I did for people in our little militia, so I made one of these and while they work, they do not combine images so you get a black bar in-between images. This greatly reduces utility, but is still much better than a bino. Also I suggest dummy cording between IIT since 3D printed parts are not known for being super durable. I coated my housings in epoxy resin to create an impact resistant shield to reduce the chance of breakage. Also the airsoft dovetail is out of spec, so you need to bolt on a real wilcox dovetail, or what I did, cast out a horn interface so I can use direct on a Rihno II. Considering all the work, it is better to actually buy a QTNVG rather than doing the airsoft conversion unless you just happen to have a FDM or SLA 3d printer and spare tubes lying around like I did. The sole reason IMO to buy the TNVC offering is because of their great warranty. If you crash the QTNVG china isn't going to bail you out, and KS only offers 1 year warranty. Also QTNVG will take one full financial quarter to reach you, and while TNVC is a greater wait time right now, I'm sure they will get to a point sometime this year when they can bestow the quad life onto you in a normal 1 week shipping timeframe. I greatly doubt many people are fighting each other for standing in line for quads since few have tens of thousands of dollars in disposable income to blow, unless you are in a free non-shutdown state, or were in or owned a business that figured out how to profit from the plan-demic.

L3 Harris needs to ramp up production of the tubes in order to gain in economies of scale. Only in this way can they reduce the unit cost of the tubes, and thus the final product. Early civilian adopters generally don't mind paying the initial civilian market, high profit margins to the distributor (s). Another thing has recently become clear, and that is that the US military no longer owns the night. Our near peer competitors/adversaries are investing heavily in night vision tech, so while they may be 1 or 2 generations behind, they will eventually catch up. The cost of these technologies will only continue to drop over time. Next step (in progress) for the US military is Augmented Reality vision.

The Moon was just coming up. This particular one has 2376+ FOM tubes. The standard is 1792+ FOM. Even before the Moon came up they are stunning. The effect of having 4 tubes projecting light to your eyes magnifies the brightness effect.
