If you press the graph icon in the bottom left of MSI Afterburner, you can see a graph over time for power draw, clocks, fan %, temp etc. More reliable than eyeballing it. Also, you don't use the "start with windows" option, you select the profile you want to be applied on startup, then select the windows icon in the top right of the screen. Afterburner will start up, apply the changes, then close itself on windows startup. Just means 1 less program consuming system resources. :)

My RTX 3060 was running hot out of the box (about 78c under full load). I followed your tutorial and lowered the temp. down to 65c without sacrificing any measurable performance. @@iikatinggangsengii2471 That's what I wanted to say. For power monsters UV is a must, but for cards like 3060, maxing out the clocks is better option. I got my boost clock from 1852 to 2077MHz and memory clock 1875 -> 2130MHz for a cost of 17W more power (170 -> 187W) on TUF 3060. It got about 12% more score in benchmarks. Tech Power Up's GPU-Z software keeps track of maximums as well. You just need to click the drop-down of the stat you want to know the peak of and select "Show Highest Reading". If you are testing different voltages, just hit the reset button after stopping Heaven and you'll get new max numbers when you start Heaven again.
@TheZoenGaming
@TheZoenGaming 2 года назад
Just remembered another tip: Don't use Heaven to stress test modern GPUs, i.e. 20xx series and later (AMD RX 580). When I bought my 2080 I used Heaven to stress it the same as I did with my 970. I was able to apply a significant undervolt to my card and it never crashed running Heaven. When playing a DX12 game for about 30 minutes, however, my system would crash. Crashes occasionally occurred while watching RU-vid as well. This is because Heaven only uses DX11 and doesn't make use of all the parts of modern GPU processors. Use the Superposition Benchmark (8K Optimized setting) instead. I started that up and my system crashed after 20 seconds. I was able find a stable undervolt using it that didn't cause problems in modern games.

a slightly more natural way of doing the curve before the plateau I saw recently, was to find your best overclock, for example +115 on my 2080, then you hold shift and drag in from the right, stopping at the voltage you want, then let go of shift and drag that voltage block below everything else, tick apply and it does basically the same thing but with a more natural curve leading up to your max voltage, but with a more gradual curve leading up to it. effectively you're focusing more on what voltage you want with the clock second, instead of the clock first and trying to run that clock at a voltage that may have less stability. Apparently a better benchmark to use these days is 'superposition'

Great guide, I have an MSI Gaming Z Trio 3080 and out the box it was hitting 82c, drawing 360 watts and thermal throttling, very quiet card but obvious headroom there. Put a custom fan profile in and undervotled and now its stable 1950mhz hitting 67c max and drawing under 300 watts. Can't believe card manufacturers don't do this out of the box but I suppose it's an impossible task with silicon differences.

Thank you for such a great guide! I recently upgraded to a EVGA RTX 3080Ti FTW3 Hybrid gaming card, and I found the default voltages to be a little too much for the hybrid AIO cooler. I don't think the stock EVGA Hybrid is enough to keep the RTX 3080Ti cool under full load, was easily seeing temps up to the upper 60Cs with default fan speed going up to 72%. After trying your method, I went from a stock voltage of around 1.062mv (around 1935mhz) at full load to a nice undervolt down to 0.850mv 1920mhz. After leaving unigine running at 4K for 30 minutes before the temps would max out at around 68C with the radiator fans (changed to Noctua AF12s) at around 70% level. Now I have applied a much more silent fan curve and max out at 63C with fan speed around 52% so its a massive difference!

86C for GPU is pretty hot :o I would even check slighly lower gpu clock (around 1900) and even lower voltage (0,850V for example) to get lower thermals. Higher fps on lower voltages (and temps too) means you had thermal throttling on gpu on the stock settings. BTW - what case you have? Maybe airflow is quite bad?
@jeffreybenson8910

@@groundhoppingwlkp3622 these cards run really hot! The thermal pads are junk and many times not mounted exactly where they're supposed to be. I've done a pad swap on my 3070 and would've done it on the 3080 but I got it cool enough with undervolting. My case and airflow are very good. Thanks again. Is there a need for CPU undervolting too? (I have an Intel 12th GEN i7-12700K)

I undervolted my card to lower the coilwhine and it really helped. Ran it through Unigine Heaven 1080P Extreme settings. I'm using the ASUS 3080 Strix OC card and my stock was this: Stock: GPU Clock 1935mhz Core Voltage 1.075 Fanspeed 1840RPM GPU Power 350W GPU Temp 68C Benchmark Score/FPS 4534, 180 With undervolt: GPU Clock 1860mhz Core Voltage 0.875 Fanspeed 1440RPM GPU Power 250W (isch) GPU Temp 61-62C Benchmark Score/FPS 4387, 174,2 Now there is still some coilwhine but it is very very silent. I didn't try to undervolt more to the point of a crash. I'm happy where it is now. Thanks alot for the help!

Thank you for this video. Can someone please explain exactly why core clock must be lowered -250 before undervolting? Is it not possible to simply find 950 dot on curve then pull it up to 1920mhz? Where does this -250 value come from? How is it calculated? I just want to understand, thank you :D

@@valfar9999 I went ahead and selected .900 mV at 1875mhz without underclocking and it is working great. Lower temps and solid fps without tripping the Operational Voltage limit or Power limit as before. I'm impressed by gpu's capability to overclock itself but unnecessary for my (mostly) 1080p gaming :D
@johann09
@johann09 2 года назад
Just a baseline. He probably chose -250 MHz because ROG Strix cards boost quite a lot, I decided to go with -200 MHz because my card isn't a top tier model and it doesn't boost quite as much due to power limit.
@valfar9999
@valfar9999 2 года назад
@@jivadaya6439 Yeah I managed to get 1995mhz for 950mv on my 3080 TI and it is stable on the time spy extreme stress test but unfortunately it crashes on Cyberpunk so I pushed it to 975mv. I should lower my core clock as 1995mhz is way above the stock core clock of this GPU. But yeah, regarding the temps it's crazy how much it improved, I'm running Valhalla on 4k ultra at 70°C with my fans running at 85-90%
@robr640
@robr640 2 года назад
From my limited experience it is to make sure the point you set is the highest point on the VF curve. If there is a higher point on the VF curve the GPU will still draw stock voltage & boost up to those higher points.

i like to have 2 profiles - 1 for regular work and gaming where its all about silence and energy saving and its fine for me to loose there even up to 5-6% of the regular performance. and the second profile is to get the absolute max out performance of the card if i do high usage rendering or feel the need to get the absolute FPS max in a specific game. 95% of the time i will use the first profile to save as much energy as possible.

Thank you. I'd like to add that you can save uo to 5 profiles for different games, since some undervolts are gonna work for some less demanding ones, while you are gonna need a little more voltage for some others. Bright Memory Infinite, for example, works with a 862mV/1905Mhz (Very well optimized), but heavier games can run with a 925mV/1995Mhz

Rocking 987mv @ 2015mhz. Increased my performance quite a bit while lowering power usage and temps! I can do almost 2170mhz at max voltage but I would much rather have the lower temps and power usage so my card lasts! Im using the EVGA FTW3 Ultra Gaming 3080ti with an EK Quantum Vector Waterblock. I recommend to first find your max core clock with max voltage and then try and find a sweet spot under that where you can run lower voltage while still overclocking the card. Undervolted and Overclocked is the way to go!

I already know how to undervolt my GPU. But I wish I would've seen this video when I first wanted to learn how. This has been the most comprehensible video, I've seen on the topic. My 3080TI FE was running super hot. I actually got similar results as you. 1950 at 925Mv with 73C down to 64C with fans at 70%. My memory dropped from 91C down to 77C. And a power draw of 330 watts. All with the exact same performance. I'm still gonna replace the pads and paste here after 6 months of having the card. Got it for the price of a non-TI thanks to Best Buy, so I plan on waiting til 50 series at least. I got some coming in a couple days. And I need to cut a whole under my GPU to have a fan blow cool air up to the heat sink. (I like this smaller Cooler Master MB311L case too much to replace it.)

@@WiLcreatives My 3080 FE went down to 1920MHz at 875mV, and I tried upping it to 1935MHz, it worked but it had a marginally better FPS at about 11W extra power, then again 1950MHz introduced 1965MHz boosts but Unigine was freezing. Do these figures sound about right?
