I agree with a lot of what you said but I want to add that they could have picked a "route" from the VN and expanded upon it. A "route" in and of itself is just a layout for how the story will progress and who the characters are. When adapting this to another medium it's the adapters job to add characterization and add or take away screen time and back story, etc as needed. Similar to any movie adaptation of a book it doesn't have to be exact and is often better when it is not an exact copy. The adapter has to make decisions on what to adapt and how to adapt it as well as what to add and what to take away, this is what makes something a great adaption that can be considered better then the original.

What *Epicawesomesocks* refers to is, in my mind, what the F/SN manga adaptation ended up being - it has the layout and trappings of the "Fate" route, but includes elements from the other routes (well, mostly just UBW) in a way which makes them feel NATURAL to the story rather than awkwardly stuck on (*cough* the Deen anime *cough*). It also tries to do its own thing with several characters' actions and motives, notably Shinji who ends in a completely different place from any of the VN stories. It's kind of what I wish we'd gotten from the first anime, actually, because while there's a lot which it doesn't go into depth about (we don't even SEE Zouken Matou), it's for the better as it feels more streamlined and not dependent on any other adaptation to understand it and clearly follow things.

@@johangalvez5059 you can't purchase it unless you speak japanese, which you don't obviously. So everything you have to do is download the beast (use a guide if necessary) because it never got translated in any language and thus rely on fan translations. Quick tip get the "realta nua" version it has a lot of improvements (like voice acting being added), and if you want the extremely memable hentai scenes (yes i said hentai) there's a patch for that as base realta nua does not have them. (They're cringe and horribly written and that's why they're worth getting) Or you can watch the thing on youtube, i believe the channel otakudaikun streamed it in its entirety

When it comes to which is better between FSN and Fate Zero, I tend to see arguments towards both sides. Honestly, it seems more like a "pick your favorite" type of situation. Especially since many people either don't understand the protagonist of F/SN (be it because they've never seen anything outside of each anime adaptation's versions of Shirou, or because they misunderstood the character itself), while Zero also has quite a few darker moments that come off as present for the sake of being present, by its adaptation alone. Neither series is without fault, but neither is bad, yet neither necessarily a good jumping on point for the Fate franchise. And that's not even going into all of the core issues each one has, not as an entry into the Fate franchise, but as adaptations of the respective works as a whole. ...Hell, personally, I just say "emulate Fate/Extra" half the time. Also, Zero's a prequel, not a sequel, lol.

I'm glad Arkada has the mindset to recommend the order of Fate 06', then Zero, then [UBW], and finally conclude with [Heaven's Feel], because I too believe this is the correct way to watch the series in anime form. Yes, the 2006 anime has plenty of flaws and spoilers from other routes, but they're spoilers that are just casually said in Zero. Besides, you can watch Fate 06' then go into Zero fine, going from Zero to Fate 06' is.... Hard to say the least. So that's my 2 cents, excellent review as I expected, I hope he continues to review all in my favorites franchise: Type-Moon X Ufotable. How onward to Hunter X Hunter! Because I've never seen it and I'd like to see his review on it.

From what I know, other than Fate more focusing on Saber more, I personally don't see the benefit of seeing Fate 06. If it's a mix mash of all three routs, then wouldn't it be better to see the best adoptions (UBW and HF) of 2 out of the 3 routes individualy. And why would anyone want to go back and watch a less supiror anime, and they might be more likely to be put off if they start with it. This is just my opinion.

Yes it might put people off, but not only is there the promise of something better, but at least then they'll have some closure to her character. Zero didn't give her closure, UBW didn't either (at least satisfyingly), and HF, oh Jesus no. But that's my reasoning, you do make a very good point.

Also, from my personal experience, I feel like watching Zero first is better since not only would you starting in chronological order, but I feel like Zero introduces the Fate series more better. I and others I know were confused with starting UBW, and others were almost completely put off continuing watching Fate because of they started with Fate 06. I'd say, Fate/Zero, UBW, HF, and if people want closure for Sabers character, then Fate Stay Night, or even after Zero, then UBW then HF. Depends on how interested the person is in the Fate series.

@@nawalpandey718 Damn, thank you. I suspect that your IQ is 200 lol. What you have said is why I love UBW route the most, even though HF is a darker route. I only found the HF trilogy focuses too much on fight scenes and portrayal of Sakura's fate, without character development and description of Shirou, Kirei and Zouken. UBW imo is much more brilliant, but the lengthy anime adaptation just made it incomprehensible someway.

@@ngocducnguyen270 yeah i am completely agree. But one thing is that i haven't 200 iq lol. I make this analysis also with the help of other opinion and my own reading. And it is not difficult in visual novel to understand it. If you read it carefully. You understand it's depth quite easily. And yeah i love heaven's feel most but character development and importance of ideal of heroism is expressed much better in this route. I also think even though Shirou of first half of fate route is frustrating but it is very important for establishing his character for his development in ubw and hf.

@@ngocducnguyen270 Yeah there is one more interesting point to notice that rin and shirou's relationship is very similar to Claudia and Kirei's relationship. She can throw her own happiness to give shirou true happiness. Her role is to guide shirou in his chosen path and also remind him about his own self-conscious or his own happiness that he forget. The biggest reason why she had to do that. Because shirou after the event of ubw think that he and his power is existed in this world because others (humans). He thinks that his self is existed to protect others or become the servant of 'others' in right way. It means he is existed to guide human in right path. That's why rin can even throw his happiness to give happiness to his love. This is also very beautiful in my opinion. Nasu never wanted to implement hentai in vn but he has to do that because of the fan of vn of that time like this stuff. This is also happened with another type moon's great Tsukihime visual novel. Other than that i also want to recommend you Fate Hollow Ataraxia. It expands the theme of stay night with the character Angra Mainyu which is highly influenced by Emiya Shirou in a quite interesting way. It also explore other characters like Medusa, Kuzuki and Cu chulain

It isn't bad, but there is a clear lead character unlike zero so things get more predictable. I would give it a couple episodes at least.

Ironically enough, the source was a Crunchroll page talking about how Fate fans who came into the series through DEEN's version were mad at the fact that it wasn't included. But I really also love the SoL portion of the story, it made me like some of the characters even more like Rider for example, and more RinxShirou is always welcomed(Despite not appearing in the first half) It's my favorite Fate Series work.

Assassin, Saber, Kirie, Caster, the teacher, Taiga have much more screen time time. And I like its ending. Although Shiro got much more character development in UBW, we see another perception of him thanks to Saber. Also the reason of why saber chooses to or to not use the holy grail is more explained. Also there are explanations why Shiro can heal wounds that would take months much more faster. You know like getting an arm cut off in UBW. After this I will recommend Carnival Phantasm, its parody of the Fate series (and other series), and if you watched UBW,FSN and and FZ, then you would laugh a lot in this parody.

you should just read the visual novel. its much better than any of the adaptations and has a far superior ost. you may not like reading but you may still enjoy it.

He has a soft spot for that anime because he liked it when he was young, but most Fate fans you ask will agree that anime is the worst place to star off with the franchise. Some like me will tell you to not bother with that at all, but others will tell you to watch it only when you're already a fan.

About 13 and 26: These were the only 2 recap episodes in the entire 148 EPISODES and easily skippable. There is no issue there, as even 24 episode shows have mid-run recap episodes. How are you gonna say CA arc was filler? It had the most development for characters out of the entire show.The game was not very important and did not need explaining, as the focus was more in character interaction and development. It's not like most people in other countries would know how to play Shogi anyway. Alluka's powers are very unique. SHE (Killua very clearly calls her his sister) has not been given an origin of her powers. We don't know where they come from or if there are other consequences (but the new arc points to the dark continent.) They are also not all powerful. Even though she saved Gon's life, he is now unable to use Nen, due to the Pitou fight. She couldnt fix that. There will be more explanation in the future. You were supposed to hate the rat because he is manipulative and fickle, toying with everyone. It made sense for him to throw the election away. Come up with better arguments.

For example, Fate was all about Saber so the audience is expected to know all about her at this point so there was no need to waste even more time developing her and taking screentime away from the actual plot, and putting too much in will just result in the anime feeling bloated, and there's still only so many episodes.

See, Zero is more of an epic focused around the clashing of ideals and an overarching nihilism, while UBW is much more hopeful and down-to-earth within the same brutal battle royale setting. It’s fine to like UBW more, but Zero is more often hailed as better because it’s scope is huge and epic (plus rider is the best character ever).

You can like one more than the other that’s doesn’t matter.. but zero is the best fate.
