this is really interesting, a lot of car reviewers are complaining about the GR corolla feeling like it starts to pull timing after running it hard. I guess the factory hot air intake could easily explain this.

I’m gonna have to grab one for my grc
@alottalogic
@alottalogic 11 месяцев назад
It's technically a dump flap, when the system opens the door/flap, it does pull in some hot air, but the main thing is it forces out the warmer air that's "tramped" in the air box, thus pulling in the colder air down the short tunnel and into the system
@boostedperformance_
@boostedperformance_ 11 месяцев назад
From my testing, the intake temps stay pretty good until the flap opens and they rise up quite a bit so to me, it seems to be pulling in hot air and it never comes back down until after the flap closes. I know there's various reasons for this to exist but that's the real world impact we are seeing in our testing.
@Perceivedshift
@Perceivedshift 11 месяцев назад
That would imply there would be positive pressure in the air box, impossible. You also should know hot air rises....lol. What you're saying makes zero physical sense.
@carlstrohm3785
@carlstrohm3785 11 месяцев назад
@@Perceivedshift it actually could work if the aero was correct, but inside the engine bay I doubt that it works. Think air operated brake bleeder. Forces brake fluid out of the system by creating a vacuum with the air rushing by. So it could work if they had forced air rushing by to keep the hot air out. He needs to get the readings while the car is driving vs sitting still on the dyno to get real use Temps. I think the new intake will still win though. Looks nice too.

Out of all of the intake selections rn for the GRC do you think this is the best pick? I was looking at MST and I heard HKS is dropping some parts soon. I'm not sure if I should pull the trigger and buy this Eventuri intake mainly due to it being $1.6k, but also if it is even worth the price vs the other intakes that are half the price of this intake. I want more induction noise but with actual power gains, MST makes great induction noises but compared to the Eventuri it doesn't make as much HP (at least from the videos i've been watching)

Got a question the stock air box has a gap in the throat before the box. I believe its for Bernoulli's principle to increase air volume. When i removed just the throat from the grill to install new eventuri. I drove to store and saw a significant loss in power. [I was sent gloss not matte carbon so I stopped install until correct intake arrives] my question is would the forced induction benefit from Bernoulli's principle?

We are using Ecutek with our shop car and will be offering tuning as well. Right now, we have to flash directly at the ECU each time we want to make a change but we can log with the Bluetooth dongle with the Ecutek connect smart phone app as well as monitor. We should have either direct OBD laptop flashing and/or PhoneFlash support ecutek in the near future and that's when we can roll out remote tuning. For now, we can tune cars in person at our Des Moines location or in Chicago at Limit +1 where they are located.

Gread vid on a car that is unfortunately unavailable for us Dutches. I do have a question though. Why do you dyno and compare results prior and after with the hood open? I think one would be better off by replicating road conditions, meaning with the hood closed. The Eventuri (I have them on my ///M2 comp) really comes alive on the road, best combined with stage 2 tunes.
@boostedperformance_
@boostedperformance_ 11 месяцев назад
We did do the comparison runs with the hood closed. You are correct that this is the the proper way to test. The last pull with the hood open was just to hear the sound and I’d flashed it with a higher boost tune at that point. We have gained 60 whp so with this intake and tuning. We’ve tested all different ways and on the dynojet it reads the same power in or out of dyno mode and using 2WD or 4WD. We have a linked dyno so we don’t have issues using 4WD. The other benefit to using 4WD on a dynojet is putting more load on the engine, closer to what you’d see on the road since the car puts power to all four wheels.

SAE is generally about 2% lower than STD. Next time we do anything on the dyno, I will include both. Customers typically don't care about the difference and ask for whatever will show the highest number so we we provide that but we use the same correction for base line and final numbers to so the correct gain. Which correction is used is not nearly as important as doing that and also use one of the corrections in general.

@@touayaaj84 I could not agree more! We do not tune a peak number, we very much tune for area under curve, smoothness, and longevity before anything else. Any modifications to the engine, ecu, drivetrain, etc can potentially allow the manufacture to deny a warranty claim. This is has been the case for a long time. Before modding, its best to establish a good relationship with a dealer you trust and make sure they are mod friendly and if not, keep your car stock until you are out of warranty unless you are willing to risk paying out of pocket there is an issue they wont cover.

We actually have the ability to see all the temperatures right now with Ecutek. We can see ambient temp, intake air temp (where the MAF sensor is) and pre throttle temp (after the air is compressed and cooled by the intercooler). So I was actually to measure and record all these temperatures with the stock intake vs Eventuri. The stock air box truly DOES bring it hotter air than ambient temps because it pulls from behind the radiator. This isn't a guess or a theory, I can see it in the data both on the dyno AND my importantly when driving on the road.

If you are cross shopping these cars against a GR Supra, RS3, Turbo I6 BMW or even honestly the Golf R, S3, VB WRX, etc, you might not be able to get the end result of power you want out of it but that's not really the point of this car IMO. This car is perfect for folks who want to do road racing, autocross, or just want a quick, fun street car where power isn't the main focus but rather having a balance of handling and power is more important. That said, the power this little 1.6l 3 cylinder can make is silly. If Toyota did take this engine concept and double it into a 3.2l 6 cylinder, it would be rowdy for sure.
