What was the reason for spacers?
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Год назад
So I'm not at a spot right now where I can afford/install a proper suspension kit and some nice aftermarket wheels for good fitment, so I went with these 20mm spacers on the stock wheels to get more flush fitment both on the cheap and fairly easily (as compared to a full suspension kit install). Hopefully in the near future I'll be able to get air suspension and some nice aftermarket wheels, but for now I gotta work within my budget constraints.

@@relatablerides Ahhh, makes sense. I haven't been looking at aesthetics, I just toss RE71-RS's on my cars for the track and go at it. With those tires, the stock suspension isn't what's holding me back, it's the idiot behind the wheel. But those tires on the street are nearly deadly if you don't have enough heat in them or if it is raining, also the limits on them when up to temp are way above anything that you should be doing on public roads. Still riding stock for daily driving, been thinking about upgrading those but haven't pulled the trigger as they only 4k miles on them. But yeah, I get it. The track stuff nearly broke me as this is my third car to maintain. Motul 660 brake fluid, performance brake pads, Motul trans and diff fluid, it added up really quickly, and then the oil changes!!! I did the 500 mile oil change, then 3 more as I change the oil before every track day, the car only has 4k miles lol. I got lucky and found a local guy selling TWS rims for $500 I put the RE71-RS's on, they looked so good I almost wanted them for daily rims, but I'm to cheap to toss the factory tires out before they are gone. Best of luck and look forward to future vids!

@@jimfisher9680 That's sick! I don't know much about tires, but I'll take your word for it on the RE71-RS's. I'm mainly gonna be daily driving my GR86, so having the best setup for performance around the track doesn't come to mind when I think of mods to do. Yeah I can see how having a car specifically for the track (or at least having track time in mind when looking for mods) would be a rather cost-intensive affair, I've spoken to people who track the last gen version of this car and they tell me they're constantly running through brake pads and tires super quick, not something I'd be able to afford right now 😅. Hopefully if I can grow this channel enough that's absolutely gonna be something I'd want to get into sooner rather than later for sure. Thanks, I hope to see you around for the next video!

@@relatablerides operating costs are very real on track. I talk to the vet and Viper guys all the time, they’ll blow through a set of tires in 3 days to the tune of $2500, my GR86 tires will last about 12-15 track days and only run about $1000. I seriously considered a manual M2 when shopping for the GR86, but track operating costs were about the same as the vets and Vipers and on most courses the GR86 doesn’t post that much slower of a time. I watched far more capable people than me with BRZs walk away from vets in corners just just for the vets to catch up in the straights. To be far Miata’s could do the same thing. My lesson was that power costs quite a bit of money, where as light weight is cheaper and not that much slower. Hope the channel grows and we see ya at the track!
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Год назад
Yeah going to the track consistently is no joke. It does make sense that cars able to put down much more power would be the ones burning through tires much quicker, honestly just goes to show you how good of a chassis the GR86/BRZ is, and even the Miata as well. Going for the latter, lower powered options is def the better financial move. I hope to post some on-track content soon! I've still got my free track day courtesy of Gazoo Racing, I'm planning to film and upload that in the coming months. Stay tuned for it!

the noise difference in the oem and GS hose is awesome, very nice!

It really is! I'm surprised a pipe that small could have such a big difference for the engine tone!

@relatablerides yeah definitely, love the Neptune blue as well 💙 👌 Have you considered getting a grimmspeed dry con drop in filter? Or not necessary?
@relatablerides
@relatablerides 10 месяцев назад
Thank you, I love the color so much. Shame Toyota isn't making them in Neptune blue anymore. I'm actually already running an HKS high airflow filter, it was one of those mods that I put on without filming because it was so straightforward it didn't need its own video. With this generation of 86/BRZ the factory air intake has a carbon filter behind the drop in filter, so swapping out just the filter doesn't make any difference in the way of power or noise just because the carbon filter is the limiting factor. The cheap and easy solution is to just cut it out of the OEM box, or alternatively swap out the entire intake system for a full cold air intake w/ a cone filter.

Love it! I have a neptune premium with black grimmspeed and 20mm, 25mm titan spacers with black lugs! Like your taste and i should have gotten 20mm for rear
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Год назад
That's great to hear, the stock fitment really is bad on these cars lol 😅. 25mm for the rear isn't bad tho, it'll probably look real nice from the back.

I’ve read so much stuff online about the hose, people saying it results in a loss of power while increasing noise in a good way. How are you enjoying the Grimmspeed hose? Thank you for posting this.
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Год назад
I honestly couldn't tell you about what people are saying, I didn't look into the specifics of power gain or noise alteration when I bought it. All honesty I wanted to just have something under the hood so when people ask me to pop the hood at a meet it's not just a fully stock engine bay 😅. After having done the sound comparison and lived with it for about two weeks now, I can say I do really like it. I personally feel like there might have been a slight bump in power, though that could very much be placebo. What has changed though is the responsiveness of the accelerator pedal. It feels like the throttle body opens a little more sharply now, it might be the altered flow of air that's giving me that sensation. It's definitely noticeable in the driver's seat. I like it though, and if you're looking for a smaller mod like this that comes pretty cheap (relative to a full cold air intake) I'd say this option is worth your consideration.

You do NON, NOT, NOT want spacers on your car - buy wheels with a PROPER OFFSET
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Год назад
What's the problem with spacers? I'm genuinely curious, I've seen plenty of people run spacers without many issues (as far as my knowledge goes). As far as getting wheels with proper offset, for me it's just a matter of budget for the time being. Getting a good set of aftermarket wheels that'll look good on this car is just out of my price range right now, but is absolutely something I'm gonna do in the future.
@jackschwab2710
@jackschwab2710 Год назад
@@relatablerides Completely agree, nothing is wrong with spacers until you start going unsafe sizes. Will do just fine until you get wheels for it, I just ordered coil overs for my Gr86 and wont be able to get wheels till later this year and planned on spacers to get through the garbage fitment lmao. Great video would love to hear how ride quality is or now been some time experience with them thanks!

There’s literally nothing unsafe about PROPER spacers that are CORRECTLY installed. They are used in the highest levels of motorsport (F1, Formula Drift etc). Key thing is to get them hub centric and to have sufficient thread engagement and you’ll be fine.
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Год назад
@@joelooi360 That's what I was thnking. I did make sure to get hub centric spacers and to torque down all the bolts to spec, the 20mm spacers came with their own lug studs as you saw, so they should be all good.
