What a surprise! So many Vieni t'affreta's browsed, listened to and adored! This one is exceptional, for its precision, energy, abandonment,. Unique! Thank you
A lesson on how to sing perfectly this very demanding role. Wonderful in every way. Golden age, when real voices of great, great singers were on stage.
I was fortunate to see her in a complete Macbeth in Philadelphia in the 70's. Her singing and interpretation were everything one could want. The mad scene was the highpoint as one would hope for.
Wow! I guess I need to listen to more of Grace Bumbry. This is a superb performance of this scene. Also, I love her acting: her facial expressions give her a crafty, calculating look, and her articulated hand movements remind me of a bird of prey.
I witnessed her Macbeth in Philadelphia in the early 70’s. Stunning because she’d coached dramatically with the great Shakespearean actor Dame Judith Anderson.
There is a beatiful video with Barstow singing Lady M. I like her very much because she sang with the "ugly" voice Verdi asked for the role. Callas did that so.
Powerful and exciting. Terrifying in the cabaletta (ministri infernali). Putting aside the two trills she omits, this is a great performance. Bravissima!
