I read down the list pretty far and see where some are arguing over whether this version of the song was better than the original or whether or not she needs to play original music, and not so many covers. The trend of bands to play only their music is actually something that was not the case in the sixties and early seventies. Elvis with the body of work he had covered tons of stuff live, as did Tina Turner, and many other bands of that era. It usually leads to a better show since most people in a crowd don't know and therefore don't really like deep cuts off of an album they never owned. It also gives you an idea of what music a band likes and even who influenced them. Grace seems to have a great grasp of where the music came from and where it needs to go. As far as if her covers are as good as the originals, the real answer is, that it will always be up to the listener, and if someone prefers her version then they are correct, as is the person who stands by the stones. I tend to listen to it as if I had never heard the tune although that's a bit difficult, but at least I listen seeing if the song stands up on it's own merits, and this one is pretty damn good. She preforms it in a style much like the people of the time period might have covered it and it passes the test. Few women cover the tunes the boys played back in the day and I like that as well.

Seen em twice now (last time 2 years ago at Clearwater Festival). She is in the same class as Janis, in my opinion!

Mick Jagger wishes he could make this song rock this hard.

@Hannibu You have got to be kidding. I like Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, but this version has lost all the darkness of the original. She has a fantastic voice and all, but no one will ever touch Jagger on this song. There are few covers that sound good as the originals, because we usually hear the original first and that version sticks in our head. One cover I like better than the original is Springsteen's "From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come)" performed by Dave Edmunds.

@refusedearedead It's starting to happen. Sucks for me, because I just discovered this band the other night. Some music video on at like 3am in the morning while high. Been hooked on Grace ever since.

If you ever do a film about the Iraqi war, you just have to play this one. I just bought her CD at the college record-incense store. I don't buy music from Walmart.

@27crooked how exactly are they turning rock music upside down? that implies that they're approaching the genre in a significantly different way, but playing rock with a soul attitude has been done since the late 1960s, probably starting when Otis Redding covered the Beatles and Stones. read a book. or at least Google that shit before you start making declarations.

Devin Hylton I kind of like the fact that she seems to play what she wants and that she actually knows where the music came from.

I find that the original by the Stones sounds way too superficial and too sarcastic. Like the lead singer was just having a bad day because his girlfriend broke up with him or something. Grace makes it sound more like she's battling with some inner depression. In my opinion. It's more personal. The original just doesn't feel like enough.

NOT even close to Janis! Am looking thru their videos to see what it's all about. Not impressed!
