Even without the high cost and huge amount of work required: A giant mansion can feel overwhelming empty. Also that house is still very big. (510m²)

Yes it has so much character and feels so homey. Modern mansions are kind of scary. They just feel so open and void, especially if you have a small household.

All depends on what state you're in. You can get a house like this 30 minutes outside of Atlanta for $500k-$600k.

Excellent home! I love the landscaping as it really compliments the architecture. I am very fond of Mansard roofs and find this one so visually pleasing. I don't see much of a river - is that a glimpse of it through the trees in the last photo of the link you posted? Overall, this is a beautiful property anyone would be happy to call their home.

I happen to know that area a bit. It is a beautiful and pleasant area of France, just north of Pau, the old capital of Henry III/IV.

Yes l was also reading : Aire sur L'Adour is an important stopping point for pilgrims walking the Saint Jacques de Compostelle with the UNESCO heritage church of Sainte-Quitterie being one of the highlights. Motorway access from Aire takes you to Pau in less than an hour, and to Bordeaux within 90 minutes. Who not know this place.

Any idea when a property plan might be available? Would like to see if the room across from the kitchen could be made into an expanded kitchen with more prep space. Beautiful home!

Thank you for your interest ! Please could you send me your email address to - joanne@frenchcharacterhomes.com and I'll send you a floor plan. For expanding the kitchen one can certainly use the full room size (31,5m2) which would make a substantial kitchen area. Next to the kitchen is the original pantry corridor leading down to the basement steps so I don’t think that one can extend the room size any more than its current 31,5m2

The French countryside is breathtakingly beautiful, I don't care for Paris though the countryside is auspiciously provoking for generations of French aristocrats who preferred the peace and quiet of a natural environment.
