At SFS, every Grade 5 student gets the chance to broaden their musical horizons by venturing into the world of woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments, coming together to form a unified band. One cherished Grade 5 tradition that facilitates this musical journey is 'Beginner Band Day.' On this special day, all Grade 5 students gather at the Lyso Center, learning and playing their chosen instruments together as a band team for the very first time. They receive guidance on instrument assembly and maintenance, try their initial notes, and culminate the day with a concert, presenting their first step as a band to their parents in the audience.
A heartfelt shoutout goes to Mrs. Holbrook, our dedicated Band Director, for this unforgettable experience for our students. We extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Yaniw, High School music student volunteers, guest instructors, and parent volunteers for making this day possible!
