Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)
Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”
So I started tutoring to keep other people out of the same aggravating, time-sucking cycle. Since then, I’ve recorded tons of videos and written out cheat-sheet style notes and formula sheets to help every math student-from basic middle school classes to advanced college calculus-figure out what’s going on, understand the important concepts, and pass their classes, once and for all. Your explanations are short and to the point, as they should be. Video and audio quality are both high, much better than most of the math vids on youtube. Best math vids on youtube imo.

I won't say bad things about my prof as I rather like her. She did just give us a take home quiz involving gradient fields so this video really helped. Do you have a 3D example of Del with a graph? That would be nice...Thanks!

Can you show it with the i and j notation too? Can you say that the maximim directional derivative is the maximum slope at the point (1,1) and that the tangent line is parallel to it? Can you say that the gradient vector points im the direction of greatest slope? Is their another way to find the maximum slope at an evaluated point on a surface? What does that little del mean? Is that an operator?

Why is the magnitude of the gradient vector represented parallel to the x, y plane and a tangent vector isn't. Confused ! ......any clarification would be gratefully appreciated and thanks.

I'm curious, could the gradient vector simply be called the directional derivative? i.e are the two terms interchangeable? I know you referred to it as the maximum directional derivative but I'm not entirely sure
@ZerikMarves
@ZerikMarves 6 лет назад
I don't think so, because one relies on a maximum value.

Good explanation. But don't you think it would be useful to spend 2 extra mins to explain the geometric interpretation of what a gradient is? Or did i miss out a video on that? It is easy to do algebra, but it is almost impossible to apply it in real world if you don't understand what it means. Correct me if i am wrong! You are doing an awesome job anyways.
