The 2024 NHL draft was awesome!
As the last in person draft the Las Vegas Sphere was a great venue!
No surprise as Macklin Celebrini goes 1st Overall, and Ivan Demidov slips to 5 for the Montreal Canadiens.
In this video we grade each team draft pics in the top 10 of the 2024 NHL Entry draft.

Yeah they are - and Sennecke’s a great player. Just felt like they could have moved back and gotten assets and still get their guy.
@campatterson4512
@campatterson4512 День назад
A lot of people had sennecke in their top 5 including some public scouts that I love like Simon st laurent. Definitely a small reach but he has the highest upside out of the forwards bar the “big 3” forwards.

@@HockeyOutsider as a Habs fan, I agree. They could have gotten Mtl to give up something to swap picks while still both getting who they wanted

Not bad grades imo but really feel like levshunov is a B. Good prospect but for some people incounding myself have doubts about if he really is the best defenseman in the draft. With better options on D and demidov available, seems like the grade is high
@VerbeekTruther
@VerbeekTruther День назад
People like to say verbeek had poor asset management, I imagine someone on his staff suggested moving down Two issues with that line of thought: 1) someone else may have wanted Sennecke. If Columbus or Ottawa took him, then the story is verbeek played himself 2) another team needs to want to move up, and we didn’t see any trades in the top 10. I imagine every teams draft boards looked different from one another, so other teams were probably sitting there thinking, well if we stand pat, we’ll get our guy I actually am very high on this pick, the only knocks against him that I’ve seen are his skating, which is due in part to his growth spurt. In terms of offense dude has the potential to be special, and he’s responsible defensively I also think the ducks are in a good position to take a swing since they’re pretty set on the prospect side of things. If a team like Chicago took him it would be a lot more questionable
@HockeyOutsider
@HockeyOutsider День назад
@@VerbeekTruther i agree that if he took him at 3 there was definitely some buzz on him going soon thereafter. Its not an awful pick - but I just don’t think that Sennecke was better than either Lindstrom or Demidov.
@VerbeekTruther
@VerbeekTruther День назад
@@HockeyOutsider I am surprised we passed over lindstrom, but demidov doesn’t surprise me, he’s not really a “verbeek” type of player based on what we’ve seen the last few years
@VerbeekTruther
@VerbeekTruther День назад
@@HockeyOutsider I do have faith in our scouting department, last 3 years have been solid. I recall people calling McTavish a reach at 3, but now if one were to redraft today , he’d likely go 3 again…top 5 at worst
@Roochfan20
@Roochfan20 День назад
Okay call me a biased Ducks fan (because I am) but I do think a lot of NHL scouts did think Sennecke would have gone in the top 5. No doubt if Anaheim took someone else, Columbus, Montreal, or even Utah might have a chance at him. I think people are going to look back at this draft in 4 years and think this draft order makes sense.
@HockeyOutsider
@HockeyOutsider День назад
Yeah man totally agree with you. But the possibility for moving back and gaining assets in the process or taking Lindstrom or Demidov (who in my opinion are better) made the pick a little iffy for me at 3! Sennecke will be a great player though!
@Roochfan20
@Roochfan20 День назад
@@HockeyOutsider I think there was a clear fear that if Anaheim didn't take Sennecke at 3, either one of Columbus, Montreal, or Utah would. Even if the Ducks wanted to trade down, it takes two to tango so it's easier said than done. Also considering their situation with the fact that they already have Carlsson, McTavish, Zegras, etc.... I do think they can afford to be patient with Sennecke.
@ClemmyHunter
@ClemmyHunter 15 часов назад
If Duck picked Demidov, then Senneke was going 5th.
@jackieTHorn
@jackieTHorn 12 часов назад
Montreal was taking anyone else with Demidov available at 5. Unless celebrini was available at five, Demidov was Hughes too choice.

I would say A for Seattle. But thank thank you, they say Buium was there yeah i wanted him too but you can't have both, these 2 kids were BPA players at that point, people is sleeping on Catton, just like GM were when Benson fell. (an catton is bigger) Catton and Buium have the most potential steals to me.

Levshunov is a little raw on the defensive end, but definitely not bad by any stretch! He’s also bigger and is a right shot. Defined the right pick for the Hawks if they were going D!

@@NoRoids_JustRage i’ve seen some Seth Jones comps but I think (if he reaalizes his potential) he looks to be more like a Dahlin type player. Demidov and Bedard would have been electric for sure.

Sennecke had a mediocre 1st half, but considering he grew from 5'11" to 6'3" during that period, it's kind of understandable. In the 2nd half of the season, he outproduced almost all other CHL draft eligible players. He was phenomenal during the playoffs. He's a great skater and has tremendous puck skills. His offensive upside is superior to Lindstrom. You rarely see this combination of size and skill. When you do, they go top 5. I'm from Montreal. We all though Lindstrom and Demidov would be gone by the 5th pick. Considering they wanted to pick a forward, it was between him and Tij. As much as I think Tij does everything right and is a terrific competitor, Sennecke's ceiling is higher. That being said, he's no Demidov. It seems Demidov is not a Verbeek type of player. We're thrilled to get him but I would not have been disappointed with Sennecke.
