Duval resident here. You said Maybe 7 out of 10 sympathize with you on Baalke? Nah it’s closer to 99 out of a 100. Shad Khan is the only Person that would disagree with your opinion of Baalke. Jags Fans pray every year that he gets fired. BTW I love the channel, I can’t wait for your Deep Dive Series.
As a 49er fan I cannot believe he got another job after putting us in the dirt. I feel so bad for Jags fans that they luck into TLaw and it gets ruined by an incompetent owner and GM
Everyone agreed that Hutch should’ve been taken over Walker. Baalke can’t help himself with measurables. Baalke: He never rushed the passer in college, but he has long arms and is athletic!? 🤤 Don’t get me wrong, I like Walker but not with the first overall pick.
As a Texans fan you summed it up perfectly. Even though this draft was “solid” and these guys can be great depth pieces, it’s hard to be happy when watching the Colts who are closing the talent gap fast.
@@king_supreme1102 sometimes I feel like the the only Texans fan who is always cautious about the Colts 🤣 I been tryna warn people about how amazing Shane Steichen is and they are ready to compete for this division!
The Colts think Matt Goncalves has good inside/outside versatility. He'll likely be the first one in if any of our starting tackles or guards go down. (Also the C in Goncalves is pronounced as an S. So it's like "gon-sal-ves") Anthony Gould was an excellent return guy in college. Colts will definitely use him on kickoff returns this year. Colts have said they're gonna have Jaylon Carlies play LB, similar to how they used Ronnie Harrison last year and how the Raiders use Devine Deablo, so you're spot on there.
I anticipate he’ll be more of a guard. I think they like Blake Freeland as a swing tackle. I could see a world where Goncalves starts at RG (or maybe even Bortolini). Either way I really like our O-line depth now. I also really like Anthony Gould. See what we can do with his speed on offense and now we don’t need to worry about a returner. Also yes it would be a dream if they can turn Carlies into another Diablo. Would be a heck of a steal.
I swear the amount of dumb stuff Trent Baalke has done team building wise has made it feel like he's been the GM for a decade when it's really only been 4 years. It's kinda like how the 15 minutes before leaving work feel like they take an hour
the jags dumpster fire started in 2018 so i always assumed thats when baalke was hired because of how dogshit he is but then i found out he got hired in 2021😭😭
@@coldtrainn I genuinely feel horrible for jags fans, it was one really fun year in 2017 followed by a slow motion car crash, but with hope dangling so close having Trevor Lawrence on the team.
I think not only Callahan selecting Latham, but selecting Latham over Fashanu, Fautanu, Fuaga and whoever else leads itself to a massive admission of faith in their evaluation of the guy. Because if they wanted to stick and pick a more safe guy at LT after Alt was off the board they could have easily went Fashanu. So I think Bill Callahan's reports about adoring the player are accurate, and we're just going to have to see how he can shift Latham over to LT. He did it with Tyron Smith at Dallas, moving him over from RT to LT. And then taking a college RT in Wills (also Alabama) and turning him into a cornerstone LT for the Browns. Very curious to see how this plays out. He should have some good synergy with Skoronski at LG and Cushenberry at C. Also your trade back comment, there were reports that Latham wasn't getting past NYJ at 10. He was just more highly rated within NFL circles than on your board. It's not a right or a wrong thing, it's a wait and see. They had to stick at 7 to get their guy.
That’s why “experts” talking about trading back a few spots for “better value” is the dumbest stuff that comes out of draft analysis. Teams don’t care about media consensus on players and Bill Callahan (respectfully) knows a helluva lot more than Marcus when it comes to OL evaluations. Latham is a very good tackle prospect and was worth taking at 7 for the Titans
@@yanksfan6833 I hate it. I think the Penix ordeal has pretty much brought to light that your favorite mock draft guy's big board "4.0!" has no real baring on reality. We barely heard any buzz about Penix going top 10. Falcons shock the world and select him, and then we learn immediately after the draft that at least 3 other teams would have traded up to take him. Please stop saying teams could have traded back and still got their guy because you have no clue.
Cade stover was an underrated pick for Houston. Colts gettin AD Mitchell was a str8 steal imo. They have a behind the scenes video of the colts draft prep and draft days. Good video. Idk what the jags are doing or what direction they’re going. Tennessee taking sweat so early was a big surprise. If he busts and doesn’t produce they are gonna be wishin they drafted someone else
Houston fan, y’all’s d line was already causing problems last season. Adding Latu makes them a legit unit. Too many ppl are counting out Indi in the AFC south
Trent Baalke usually is good when comes to FA Signings but his drafting imo is pretty atrocious. Maybe second to the Raiders. BTJ was a good pick but dang it felt like this guy was only watching LSU films last year. We drafted 3 different LSU players
Mitchell is going to be a beast in the NFL. People always talk about TEs boxing out people with their frames but Mitchell truly does and in a whole different way. If the catch is going to be contested, he pushes his butt into the defenders midsection and reaches out as far as possible to snag the ball out of the air. There is nothing the defender can do about it. There is no way the defenders arm length can equal that of Mitchell's entire outstretched torso and arms. Hard to illustrate with words but if you watch you will see it.
@@kendrickh91 were you able to see what I'm talking about? It specifically shows up in end zone catches. Obviously only in contested situations. I haven't seen this discussed at all and I see it as a mind blowing trait
“They got a 3rd and a 4th that Balke can waste next year” yoooooooo TFG is not holding back this year. Also thanks for the fairness on the Colts draft. I’m just glad we didn’t draft a 6th tight end
I 1000% agree with your Latham take. I felt like I was crazy having an early 3rd round grade on him and thought the only position he could succeed would be guard let alone LT.
Beautiful accurate take on t sweat , compelling player who I will follow thruout his career. The same pairing I wanted w dex and sweat they actually manifested with Simmons and sweat. I think he will be a franchise changer, .. just wait until he gets home to toke up n dont be driving irresponsibly.
This is the new AFC North and people just don’t realize it yet. Even if we assume the Titans are the weakest I still really like their off-season and I think they could easily improve to being around .500. Jags have a shot at rebounding, and even if they don’t that’s still a team that’s around .500. Colts and Texans are going nowhere but up.
I mean the AFC South is definitely better than the NFC South and East. But if you look at true Super Bowl contenders, it’s still not there. Unless the Texans can pull a Joe Burrow and the bengals, I think they’re 1/2 years away from being that team.
@@edubrooke2753oh I think the Texans are definitely there. And the colts have that upside. Jags and Titans I think are wild card contenders soon. Not a weak team in the division.
I appreciate your positivity! Don’t wish any team bad over there, but to me the Colts and Titans are bottom 10 teams in the league atm. Theres a foundation in both organizations but not there yet imo. I see what you’re saying about the Jags and Texans, but it’s a lot of pre season buzz and the season is hella long. But definitely cool to see no team really stall in that division.
@@edubrooke2753 I don’t see how you can say that about the colts but alright. Think you’re very mistaken. They were an inch away from picking in the bottom 10 of the first round, rather than the top 10. and are only getting better.
@@king_supreme1102 i really don’t hate the colts, but their schedule last year was extremely mid. Only good Ws in hindsight were Bmore after OT and Tampa . On top of that: Haven’t seen their young QB really, I think they’re bottom half interms of offensive weapons, and have a good not great defense. Not really a power rankings guy but somewhere between 21-24 at the start of the season in my book.
Love the Jags eval! I literally agree with every pick as far as your thoughts. Only thing I had to offer was that Robinson was brought in to be a returner, that’s what they said at the press conference.
Goncalves was a player i went out of my way to watch n ended up being just inside my top 100, solid technique and measurables, good in pass pro, he is lacking in agility so counters n speed moves might cause some pain but i could see him as a spot starter at tackle n maybe with some development on his footwork he can develop into an actual starter. (some say he could move into guard but I think that's just based on his frame n power, he imo would struggle heavily to create interior running lanes with his current skillset so he would be more of a liability in the run game than an asset in the passing game)
Colts fan here. I was really looking forward to hearing more about Goncalves in your video to get a better idea of him. Is there any way you can revisit his tape and give a deeper analysis of the pick in the colts deep dive?
Completely agree on the B for the Texans. It was fine, but I would've rather packaged picks and traded up to get Newton, DeJean, or Kool-Aid after they fell out of round 1
I think the Titans had a better draft than both the Texans and Jags. I know you're not high on Latham but the rest of their draft was solid. Latham, Sweat and Graham will be starters and Jackson on special teams. I think a B- for their draft, HOU and JAX should be C. I agree Colts had the best draft in AFC South with Latu and Mitchell the standouts = A.
16:20 on top of this I got to a D2 school and this guy had diabetes and he didn’t have or ran out of his insulin shots and one this first day of Christmas break in this past semester, he passed away. Idk how well these schools monitor this stuff but athletes like such should be helped monitored far more then it seems like they do.
Texans fan here- I was pissed when we made the trade and tried to talk myself into liking it but never could. I knew someone would get pushed down the board and then was SUPER pissed when we didn’t trade back up for Johnny Newton, Kool-Aid, or Cooper DeJean. I understand wanting multiple picks and splitting assets to fill out roster depth, but when you have the chance to get a top 10-15 player in the draft at 23, let alone 37, you pull the trigger. The problem is we had already put ourselves out of range to do that without basically trading away almost everything we got to move back in the first place. Super disappointing end to an otherwise great offseason
All 3 of those names who dropped out of the first dropped because theyve been injured and people dont know how they will come back and perform after their recovery. Lassiter might help right away and Diggs is better for win now than someone who is currently a junior in college.
@@brandonhallam51 We could’ve gotten Diggs either way. That has no effect. We moved back 20 spots to recoup a pick for next year, but that pick doesn’t help us win football games THIS YEAR. Johnny Newton would.
Right, I don’t know why he’s acting like we need to wait until next draft to see if that trade down was worth it. We’ll find out during the season if it was worth it.
@@dietbeer52 but he said it’ll be based on what the Texans draft next year with the second round pick. That doesn’t sound like he’s talking about diggs at all.
I’m a Wisconsin Badgers and Colts fan, and I think the thing with Bortolini that they liked above anything else was his versatility. He played all along the o-line at UW but finished at center because a transfer we brought in wasn’t ready to go. He needs to work on the speed of his snaps too. Something that bothered a bunch of badger fans all season was the offense was always a tick behind because the snaps took so long to get to Mordecai’s hand in the Phil Longo offense. Something to look out for.
I hate Baalke. I gave a C- on the Reddit forum and I got racked over the coals. The only reason the jags are bad is the lack of groceries our GM gives us. Cant make a 5 star dinner with a slice of wagu beef and water mixed potatoes.
Ballard told Carlies on his opening phone call he’s being moved to LB lmao. Also the Colts released a video about their draft and Shane Steichen said explicitly that with the new rule change they’re looking for an explosive specialist when talking about Gould.
Keilan Robinson was drafted to be the #2 kick returner with Duvernay. Also zay jones was cut so BTJ is a guaranteed starter. Love the content as always tho
I agree that the Lassiter pick is underwhelming, but I think the Texans did a good job at going "all in" in 2024 without hurting their future outlook by keeping their second round pick and still getting Stefon Diggs.
Trent Baalke hate is always accepted, i feel like bro has survived these last two years off of that 2021 draft class by itself the rest after that have been “1-2 good picks and a bunch of reaches”-Jags fan
I’m excited for Jaylon Carlies. Extremely comparable to Divine Deablo and it’s the same exact coaching staff in Indy that drafted/developed Deablo. Also, Ballard doesn’t miss at LB.
Can we get NFC WEST! Did a paper all night last night and tonight and nothing would blessed me then seeing TFG roost my cardinals as my prize at the end of the tunnel
How did I not hear that AD was diabetic until now?! In a sport where you go to the sideline when your defense is playing, I’d imagine that it’s not super hard to manage your blood glucose, as guys like Mark Andrews have. I can see him needing to sit out a series on rare occasion, when his numbers are nosediving. It’s reported, “some scouts are concerned by how he manages his diabetes.” Which could mean ANYTHING. He may completely neglect his health, which would be detrimental to his career. Those scouts could also be vastly overstepping their bounds, which is pretty common for uninformed people judging diabetics.
NFC west! I’m shocked James Williams got selected, you can see the character in the tape. He’s easily the dirtiest player that got drafted and will cost his team more plays than he makes
As a Jags fan, all Jags fans I know have been wanting Baalke gone. Feels like it’s just Shad Khan incompetence that Baalke is still in the job of GM. And it isn’t the first time Shad makes awful personnel decisions which completely hinder the team.
Baalke does this to me every year, I'm always out and then I look at the method in his madness and think "there's a chance". Its like he's making read the tea leaves to understand what the fits are, but I can't help it. So I'll play devil's advocate. I take umbrage on the Maason Smith evaluation, because for as much as you have to accept that he's not a good player right now, guys just aren't built like this, lengthwise or agility wise. Is that build realistically lasting to day 3? I know most jags fans thought he would be there at 96 and that's the range to target him, so its still early, but if you really want this guy I think you have to spend the capital there. Not to mention this is probably the ideal landing spot for a Maason Smith given that he won't have to start, he has guys with extremely similar physical projections to learn from, and he's getting coached by Ryan Nielsen while he's still only 21. Couple that with tape being hindered by the knee, and I think you can really get there with the Smith pick. Jefferson was my least favorite pick, a guy I had completely off my board because of the shit he pulled in Mobile, but... as much as I don't trust the pick, we picked up former LSU DC Matt House for the defensive staff, and he probably knows much more about his disposition than we do. And it fits a need, our nose depth was completely shot after Davon got his back infection, and this is a very strong nose with athletic upside. This could absolutely blow up in our faces, but there is some sense here, and its not like the other nose options in this class are, frankly, worth a damn. Robinson is another I have to opine on, because I'm almost 100% sure that we are not drafting him to play running back. Keilan Robinson is a kick returner, and his fit in the running back room will literally not matter, and that's what we wanted. Wiley, Shirdon, Vidal, almost all those guys that you (and I for that matter) had over him can't return kicks, so they probably were never actually in play for what we wanted. We are drafting him to be our second returner next to Duvernay for the new kickoffs, in the same vein of teams signing the likes of Shenault and Rees-Zammit to be special teams weapons. Is that a good idea? I have no idea, I don't know how you evaluate hand picking a second returner for the new kickoff rules, when we have no idea what that's really worth in the new paradigm. I'm just saying that, that's the fit, I think we like our RB depth as is and we don't care about getting him snaps on offense. Team reports that Cole was a Nielsen guy btw. There's a lot of really typical Baalke shit here, but the thing with Baalke shit is that while his process is different, it is consistent, and I have to respect that. I look at this and I think the team definitely got better, especially compared to last season's dumpster fire depth haul. Its not what you would do, its not what I would do, but... its not insane.
For the diabetes situation with Mitchell: The University of Texas has state of the art everything available to their athletes including personalized meal plans. The school definitely was not the problem. Obviously I can’t say whether Mitchell’s diabetes was an issue at Texas, but the resources were available to help him. I strongly believe his fall In the draft was due to effort concerns. I mean for God’s sake, we saw Tunsil fall from top 3-5 pick to 13th overall because a video of him using a gas mask at 12 years old got leaked. Teams are super scared to spend high picks on “risky players”
I really just don’t get why the jags didn’t use that second fourth or any of the picks they got from the trade down to go up and get kool aid or Johnny newton blows my mind that they have the picks to trade for first round prospects and instead they use them on a 6th round dt and a probably UDFA rb that they don’t need. Like the Maason smith pick is Balke being balke but why did they not push harder to trade up in the second
I understand you already gave the Colts an A *and* an S for AD Mitchell, but you didn’t even mention that that was _after_ a trade down. Steal for real.
