The last story- I’m SCREAMING at the tv, PRESS CHARGES!! Your father ASSAULTED YOU. It’s unforgivable ESPECIALLY since he didn’t even ask you if the video was even you?? I’m so sorry. You deserve so much better.

Last story- I just thought that you were unconscious until the next day with your face split open. Your parents let you lay like that instead of taking you to the ER. PRESS CHARGES ON BOTH OF THEM. All my love to you. This community supports you.

The last story was so awful. I was sobbing by the end. Jerry is right. Sue him and file charges. and forget your mom too. THEY DIDNT EVEN TAKE YOU TO THE ER! They did not care about your safety after the fact. I would not hide this from your friends or family or community. Everyone needs to know what your father did, he is a danger to everyone he is around if he could do this to his own child.

That last story shocked me so badly I actually cried for the writer. Out of all the stories from reddit and father knows that was the first to make me cry. I have no advice I could give. If suing the parents is an option I’d say go for it. The dad should pay for all physical treatments and therapy (he needs bloody therapy!) I have no words besides I’m so sorry that happened and that your dad is filth for ever doing that to you.

Story 5 is just so chilling. You did not deserve that at all. Please give yourself gentleness, reach out to friends and allow their support. One day you will feel okay

I feel a need to add this for Story 5 OP: you are allowed to be mad at your family for this. If you heard that your father did this to your cousin, What was done to you, Would you find it okay? Even if he was reacting to what was happening with your cousin was seen doing. That is absolutely no excuse for how he reacted. The fact that he did it to you with zero provocation means that you have absolutely every right to consider this person in your life a dangerous person and cut them out. It's not going to be easy It's going to be very scary but if you went to a domestic shelter and said my dad permanently disfigured my face on my graduation day for something that wasn't even my fault They would act like you need to go into witness protection. The fact that your family is literally glossing over the fact that your father was physical with you Is scary to me. I'm hoping and praying that your mom is not in an abusive situation with your father and that they've been keeping it under wraps for you. But even if that is what is happening Your mother Is allowing him to stay at home with you. You are not safe. And I hope to God you find a way to become safe. I feel like I need to reiterate you have every right to go no contact or retreat into your shell of safety as much as possible. I am hoping to God that you can reach out to any domestic violence shelters near you or support groups. Because what your father did is abuse just because he's your father does not make it any less of domestic abuse. They may even be able to set you up with counselors and people who are able to take the law and get you into a safer position. You have every right to use the resources of domestic shelters please do. You may find people there who are in similar situations and let you feel more connected in this new space you're feeling.

I will forgive you for this but on story 5 you forgot about the fact that she didn't say she didn't go to the hospital and considering the dad caused the problem they didn't want to get to A and E. Because the dad would probably be arrested and they should have gotten because just the face wounds definitely aren't the extent to the damage she could be disabled due to the injury and did not realise it and one last thing she also said she woke up in her own bed I doubt she would wake up in our own bed if she went to A&E or the ER

As much as I love(d) my dad, I would press charges. And sue. The money will help you get out of the house and your choice but maybe take a break from your parents. How unfortunate the way theyve gone about things. I'm so so sorry. I'm a mother myself and I could not imagine myself nor my husband ever doing this. I'll pray for your healing sweet baby. ❤

Last story hurt hearing. It is moments like those that people show their true colors. Bummer to say, I know, especially when it is about a parent. It hit close to home because my dad always thinks the worst of me and my sibling. We have never given him a reason: Good kids, no substance abuse as kids or adults, did our homework and chores, and now working on our careers with work and college. He always thinks the WORST of us, and an experience like this is what I truly fear. It says so much how he had no pause to ask you, or ask anyone else who might have sent him that video. Nor have the capacity to think of whoever sent it may not be trying to hurt him specifically. Perhaps it was calculated to disrupt the family, or have the cousin lose a job or scholarship, it could have been sent for a myriad of reasons. Yes, seek counsel and move forward with your life by applying for college. ASSUMING is the worst thing people can do, it causes so much unnecessary hurt. I wish you peace and healing, and to lean on your support system, your chosen family, because you need them right now❤

To physically assault his own daughter. If that was my daughter I would ask her first off was this consensual , are you okay...I would make sure she's okay I would never ever think of doing that. That was scary violent. Her mother failed her too. That man was out the house for a fucking week if I was her mother that's divorce and I'm pressing charges. If she sees this I hope you press charges and I pray you go to therapy love❤ the fact that your father hasn't apologized or reached out puts the nail in the coffin. Story 5: YESS YESS YESS PRESS CHARGES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Long distance marriage ,can’t afford a wedding, & have to live with roommates sounds like a disaster. Seems like she is only wanting marriage for healthcare & other benefits . It’s best to finished school & decide where to go from there.

Story 5: I agree with all the comments being supportive. Also, something I’m not seeing, if you don’t want to tell people about what happened to your face or confront it yet, you can still go to school and have a different story to protect yourself. I took a brutal hit in college playing rugby - got shouldered full speed in the face. My face was truly f-ed up. You could use that excuse as to what to tell people until you are ready to talk about what happened. 100% if you want to go to school, I encourage you to go. I am an engineer and it has allowed me to work on so many cool things, for so many cool companies, and I have so much fun in my career. Don’t let your dad take that from you.

Story 4: there are tons of people who do long distance who make it. My best friend’s tenants are doctors who residency put them in different states: Florida & N. Carolina. Residency programs are typically 6 years and they will only have 1 day off a week. (Or at least theirs was). They made it work and are married and live together now. You have to prioritize your free time to each other. And I mean free time, not study time and socializing with friends.

With story 3 : it's sooooo painfully obvious that OP has a high level of emotional immaturity. Needing someone to be with you so bad is a huge problem, especially at such a young age. This is the recipe for codependency and being with shit people. Gurl, grow up!( Not being condescendent, u mean it literally- be single, grow!)

Story One: OP told MiL she probably wouldn't be invited because there wasn't room so MiL made other plans. And OP didn't want her there to begin with. I'm not sure what the problem is, honestly. I think I'm with Justin, OP wants a large presence, but doesn't want the in-laws there. She got what she wanted. Also, OP, if you're reading this, you can invite more than your mom and your sister. Invite friends, invite extended family. Maybe that's not an option, I understand it might not be, but you would have been celebrating with people you don't particularly like if they had come.

Story 5- you definitely need more support. I would look into going to university. I know its scary but if you want to get out of that house that's probably your best bet. I dont know what country you're from but if you can apply for help look into it. You may get benefits as an estranged student. There is a lot of support available through uni services. Im so sorry about what happened and I think the best thing for your mental health would be to get out of there. I wouldn't want to live somewhere like that - your mother is not innocent either. She's doing the bare minimum to protect you. Brushing it under the rug. All the best love. If you want to sue you should to ensure you can get cosmetic work done in the future. He needs to know there are consequences to his actions. Sending you lots of love and healing. Time will bring you healing outside and inside. Lots and lots of love 💕

Justin’s advice for the last story is so sweet

Story 1 makes me so angry. Every graduation I’ve been to they have to ask families to cheer appropriately, not so long and loud that no one can hear the name of the next graduate. Multiple families don’t respect this and make cheering into this obnoxious competition. It literally ruins the whole ceremony..

Story 1- I totally get it OP! You thought you were getting a big show of support so you just kind of have to grieve that since it’s best for you-based on what we are hearing-that they not be involved. I never had the big cheering section either growing up. I graduated as an adult student at 28 years old and ended up with about 25 people cheering for me - I didn’t know many of them were even attending. In-laws, my sister, cousins, friends, found family. That’s what made it special- that people went out of their way for me. If you don’t get it in this graduation, I believe you will have some moment in life of equal support. You deserve it and a life well lived will lead you to it. Congratulations! I hope you celebrate you in whatever ways make you happiest! 🎓❤️

Such. A California solution to suggest buying See’s candy to break up with the boyfriend. I used to spend two weeks a summer in California, and See’s candy was a fond memory. I live out East, and no See’s candy here. Thank goodness for the internet or I may never see a See’s again. I felt the same way about Frango Mints from Marshall Field’s when it was bought out by Macy’s. Love you guys so much. I love all of your shows Morgan, and you really won the lottery when it came to fathers and fiancés. I’m quite jealous. You all make me want to work harder at my therapy, and I think your shows are good for me, if for no other reason.

Ah! Perfect timing! I'm graduating from college this week!

With the Archaeologist from New York. I'm doing my undergrad in Anthropology right now to go into the field. My advice to them is to reach out to local colleges and ask Anthropology professors how to get started in the career or their Alumni professors. Most of the time they would be more than happy to help give advise. Going to local conference would also be great, there are scouts looking for fresh archaeologist and booths for different companies. Going to thoses meetings would be a great first step in getting your name out there. If possible they might be able to do some research on their own and present a poster as well so show how dedicated they are to the profession. Also doing volunteer work for local programs would also be great. Some volunteer work doesn’t require field school experience. I did one my freshman summer and we had a few locals who came by and helped. I believe in you and it is hard to get a career right now but you got this.

Here's my take on the last one: The dad's first go-to, when he thought his daughter had done something he didn't like, was to physically assault her. I don't think she's safe. If she sues him, imagine what he'll do then? At least as long as she's under the same roof. I'm really curious about the cousin. Could OP go to her and her parents, OP's aunt and uncle?

For the "one year left until the end of our degrees" I'm wondering whether they "simply" have opposing attachment styles. I would have one last clear conversation. Ask the question, and then stay silent - wait until he answers (if he always gets sad he might have to get through the sadness, whether it's from fear of losing OP or whether it's from realising that they don't align). For me, personally, I'd always wonder what if. I'd want a clear answer - either because he was misunderstood and to know what we can do to stay together (provided there aren't big/unsolvable red flags!) - or to get closure. :)

The first story, OP if this was happening 10 years ago, I’d be asking if you married into my family 😅 But seriously, with that being said, OP, talk with your husband and see if he’s okay with going low/no contact. They are showing you their true colors, even if they “joke” it off. They’re two faced and will stab you in the back at every chance they get. You’re the person they didn’t approve of (whatever stupid reason that may be) and they will do everything they can to make you miserable. That includes trying to take any future kids away from you. Please, I know “family” like this and it’s best to not have any contact with them. Best of luck to you

For 5, she should apply to university and use it as a way to get out of the house, especially if she wants to sue. So she wouldn't be in the same house as her parents and also a way to start new in a way and boost herself and reach out to someone a friend maybe they can help in some ways ❤

story #4: although I am not married myself, my sister married her now husband through the court a year before their official big wedding and she still lived with us while my brother in law was doing military tours and making sure they got good housing arrangements with his stationed military base. Once the big wedding was over, she moved with him to their house and they’re married for 10 years now❤️ everyone has a different story but it’s yours🫶🏼
