OGs have been cutting up nylon stockings and putting them around foam mops since the 70s if not earlier. Not trying to hate on OTR. It's not revolutionary, it's just a mass produced mod that has been happening for decades. .02
A lot of big brands definitely have the capacity to take a good product that is being produced by a smaller company (or individuals) and scale it much faster than said small company or individual ever could. That's part of what makes a business a business. I've never thought to use nylon over a regular. When I have done that, it has been with simple cotton fabric, but definitely a good way to add a small bit of protection to the mop
@@ScizGraffiti If you want to see the full potential of this, grab a Krink mop/ArtPrimo Big Squeeze and go to the Dollar Store and grab a pack of woman's pantyhose/leggings. Cut a square piece of the nylon leggings and wrap it around the mop head and secure the base with a rubberband. That is what this product is supposed to be mimicking but the homemade version I'm describing works way better than the OTR did.
Yeah I've seen the ArtPrimo video where GR does that too. And I'm sure as hell not man enough to go into a dollar store and buy a women's pantyhose 😂😂😂

I have found the ink or paint you use makes the difference in how long nibs last or stop up clog up. Apart from that I haven't found much difference at all between nibs, from home made to factory made.
Yeah, at the end of the day, I think it's important to keep in mind that there can only be so much variation in the life of the nib, like you say. No matter the material, they are all still being dragged across a surface, so there will be the inevitable wear and tear haha

And also, you forgot to say a VERY IMPORTANT part of that mop: The nib is totally recyclable, you can dismount them, put another felter tip in there like a slice of your punctured sock and you will never need to buy another tip for that mop in case of damage! There is a tutorial video in that Instagram page also.

In some of the videos I use some glass or polyplastics, but I try to use a surface that will tell me the most about the aspects of the mop that I'm specifically trying to test out. So it isn't just random, I do put a bit of thought into it

Yeah that's a good idea for sure. I was thinking something like that but then even using a bit of a thicker paint to counter the fast sort of overflowing of the paint maybe 🤔
Possibly. Maybe Ruff Stuff paint by Grog would be worth a try, but idk what other brands even make thick paints like that. And it's certainly harder to make a thick DIY paint than a thin one so, I'd be out of my depth if I tried to make one haha
Sadly no hard surface test like rusty freight :( but this mop seems very nice! As it comes to mop body hardness i dont care. shoe polish mops are super hard to squeeze but they still are good mop.
Yeah I sort of have a feeling that the old freight cars will sort of tear the nib up just because I've seen them so it for every other nib I've ever used. Definitely something I'll try but I don't have super high hopes for. Maybe a good post to test that on my Instagram or something in the future or in a future unlisted video with a secert link
I'd always put a peice of nylon over shoepolish mop nibs to make it more durable and write better so you might wanna test the durability of those new nibs
Yeah, at the end of the day, I think it's important to remember that whatever the nib is, you're still dragging it across a bunch of surfaces. So I would be surprised if it stood up a lot better than any of the other nibs, but I'll definitely be eager to find out
Yeah some of them can be tough. I usually wear a glove and just try to twist them off. On occasion I'll have to use a flat head screw driver to jam under the nib to loosen it, but that does damage the plastic on it a bit :/ I always tell people to keep their mops clean, and I think that's really the best way to make it a bit easier to get them off personally. Unfortunately I don't have any real magic solution
Combination pliers, doesn't damage the nib and you can just twist it loose instead of the risk of "popping it off" with your fingers. Saves you from getting evicted after spilling 60ml of hard staining violet ink on your apartment floor. :)
Yeah I have heard that, but not sure of what material they are. And this progression to a sort of bigger brand having them now could mean they have tested well for the brands that are looking into them, not sure really.
I actually had some dollar store bingo daubers a while back that had those exact nibs, only in a smaller size. They weren’t bad for what I paid, but definitely not ideal

The plastic on those is a noticably more squeezable and flexible plastic. Probably because with a mop that thin, they had to use a higher quality plastic. The 007 is a go-to mop for me though for sure

Most people don't know about them but the marker body is so nice. The squeeze ability on these are sweet, you barely have to squeeze it to catch nice drips. I know you don't prefer drips as much as other writers but the solidity of the line when you barely squeeze the marker is really nice. I used these for my own oil based paint mixtures. The only down side Id say, if even it even bothers you, is that the mops kinda suck its self in a bit when you're using oil based and paint thinner so the chemicals make the plastic mop look as if you squeezed it then put the cap back on it. Ive noticed tho this only happens when you leave it sitting and the gases are just building up. As soon as you open the mop back up it decompresses and looks normal again. Its not a big deal at all, nor does it hinder the use of it. You should try them out, I think you'd really like them. You may not even go back to grog mops! Peace homie!
Hadn't seen those ones. Looks weird. I would buy it if it was a bunch of nibs without all the mops to be honest. Nobody really needs that many of the same mop body I don't think

How does the actual durability hold up on these? Can they tag cement and stay together? I have a bad problem with tearing my cotton nibs on the first tag of the night, leaving all the rest looking sloppy and cutting my trips short often. Having one of these may be nice more for the really hardcore surfaces for me, so I can get a little feelng back in my hands and avoid ruining a fresh cotton nib.
It's definitely a step above the standard cotton nibs or even mohair nibs. I would think on smooth cement it would do okay but the strength of the nib might actually be annoying in the sense that if it gets caught on anything on cement it wouldn't tear, but it might mess up the tag if it makes your hand keep getting stuck

I’m not a fan of otr mops whatever plastic they use if you use a bucket mix expands so damn much the nibs always pop out on me but the otr soultip paint is beautiful
In my opinion, I'd prefer a more squeezable (idk if that's even a word) body just because of control. And I got a Montana crusher not too long ago that gives out nice, solid lines with someone gnarly drips. Those are the kinda mops I prefer. (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞

They sell the exact same mops on Alibaba without any branding on, my guess is otr just got them off a supplier on Alibaba for sort cheap and got them to put their OTR brand on it

And the store I buy my stuff from mostly is bombingscience.com, but that's because for me they have the best shipping rates, since I am in Canada and so are they. They have a good range of products but not as good as some other ones. Sorta depends on your area for which is best for you to buy from of course
Yeah idk. I have tried some OTR stuff that I absolutely hate and then I've tried a couple things that were pretty nice actually. I just don't understand how they can have such inconsistent quality between products. 🤔
