Going to try this on mulberry root stock. I have many 2 year mulberry trees growing on my backyard, and learnt there are many Japanese Sakura donated from Japan to the city in the 50s. I'll try a few.
It's worth a try, just wanted to let you know in April this year I purchased one of these trees from homebase for only £12:50, so they aren't always expensive, mine is small but beautiful about 18-24" high, in a pot I hope it thrives, good luck with yours.

I also grafted a bramley apple which was planted in the ground and has done well.
1)So you used a fruiting-cherry tree-root stock and chopped some flowering cherry tree-shoots (prior to flowering season) and taped them onto each other right? (I'm just confirming I got the process alright).2) I have cherry trees that are in full bloom right now can I still do the grafting-planting process now or will it not succeed?
It's a general cherry rootstock; they're OK to be used for ornamentals too. I wouldn't recommend trying to graft once the trees are in bloom, you want to catch them in bud just as the sap is rising. But I'm no expert!
Yes, before they blossom. There are varieties that bloom in March and some that bloom in April. I grafted April blooming ones on 28th Feb in the year I did this.
You need to do it while the tree is still dormant but the sap has begun to rise. So if you see new leaf/flower buds forming, but they haven't opened yet, that's the best time
@@Rumade I understand that I'm just an english teacher and it bothers me that several times when cherry blossoms was abbreviated it was stated as cherries and not blossoms. I say that as someone who doesn't care about spelling punctuation or commas (and even abuses of tense are less painful) but this is just something that sounds like nails on a chalkboard to a native english speaker. Its kindof like how y and r were used in passwords against japan to ensure 90% of non natives wouldn't have enough english to pass id codechecks.Once you have defined the genus with the full name (in proper notation the latin genus) an abbreviation should be meant to distinguish it and in terms on making it different it should try to distance itself from its nearest clearly differentiated neighbors as a higher% ratio if u want to get into the how and why.
@@onegrail9398 nope, abbreviating to cherry for the trees is correct. Wild cherry, ornamental cherry, Chinese cherry, sour cherry- these are all ways to refer to different cherry trees. The rootstock I used was a cherry rootstock, grown for grafting either ornamental cherries or fruit producing ones. If it sounds like "nails on a chalkboard", that's your issue. I am a native English speaker too.
