Thanks for the video. I never knew grafting was such a simple procedure. I have a volunteer hybrid tree sprouted from a mix of Burkett and Stewart that resulted in a rounded nut slightly smaller than the Burkett, but with a hard thicker shell that is very resistant to case borers. I have wanted to propagate the tree and your video gives me a viable solution.

I today just realized that the Pear tree i bought was grafted. Its a funny story really not too long after i bought it maybe 5 years ago i accidentally dropped a bench on it which caused it to split i was gutted but i got some tape and wrapped it round the cut and hoped for the best and luckily it made it through and somehow healed. that trauma caused the pear tree to off branch close to the bottom of the stem and make a new stem which today i realized after staring at the pear tree that the other stem of the tree was flowering completely different to the other stem which was already in bloom while the newer stem is just about to bloom, on closer inspection they are both differently coloured one is brown and the other more grey. I am pretty chuffed that i now have two pear trees in one growing and look forward to when it finally starts producing fruit and seeing what it makes.

I just pruned back lower apple branches before the buds come in. I'll remember to stick my scions in the fridge when they get here, making a 5-in-1 apple tree out of an overgrown 20 year mac. Video was helpful, I only just started grafting.

i know this is late, but I’m starting to do botany and tree related things, so thanks for this video man.

My dumb ass brother decided to cut one of the fruit trees in my backyard that's been there for 30 years that my grandma planted. I remember learning this In agriculture class, but forgot how to specifically do it, so I'm gonna graft some of it back on, and at least save it. It's just a long stump rn so perfect for grafting I guess.

Great video, very easy to understand. Is there any circumstance that you would leave more than one scion on the root stock? Like if the root stock trunk is a larger diameter.

Do you cut both ends of the scion? If so do you also need to seal/cover the end of the scion that's not being grafted?

Thank you. I am in a Master Gardener Program and I didn't fully understand the terms used nor did I have a clear picture in my mind. I am planning on grafting some Japanese Maples to some Mapple rootstock. Not to sure about when the bark is slipping though. Most of the buds here are about 3wks from opening.

Hi @NativNurseries I have aq question. I have a soursop tree thats about 4ft tall with all the leaves on it i growed from seed. Can i graft it to make it stay small. What do i have to do to it to graft it? do i remove all the leaves and cut the main stem to graft?

You can also trim the bark from the sides of the scion for a better chance of the cambium connecting

With the unsuccessful growing of the Puerto Rican Mamey in the U.S. do you think this grsfting idea might be more of success? And what's the most typical base tree to graft a fruit scion? Particularly for the puerto rican mamey. I saw another vid where a tree had 40 some different grafts with budding flowers and produced fruit but they never mentioned what the base tree was.

Can this be done to any branch or does it have to be done to the main trunk? My plumb tree is growing lopsided and I want to get some branches growing on the other side so it looks more even.

I have a pear fruit tree that did not make it thru winter and came back from root. I am being told it will not fruit unless I graft it. I would like to keep the tree - can I graft it onto itself? Would that cause it to produce fruit? Or should I obtain a scion of grafted pear tree?

Two parallel cuts is a cleaner tighter fit for the bark flap to the scion, to minimize or have no gaping.
