Oh my God.. This is INCREDIBLE!..I didn't know this existed..A super funk medley with "The Jam" "Your Love" and "It's Alright". Graham Central Station.. one of the greatest bands ever.
* I meant to say, "Long before anybody heard of Prince, Larry Graham was making his lengendary status known by being a guitarist with Sly and the Family Stone and eventually showing off his own talents with his own group Graham Central Station. Their albums were wonderful. Graham Central Station didn't get the credit I think they deserved. There was so much to choose from in the '70s.
@@69TTDid you mean GRAND CENTRAL? Prince formed that band with a cousin of his. Great thing is Graham went from being an influence of Prince to playing in his band.
@kimkelly5512 for some reason my phone autocorrected the name. It should've said Graham CS. I definitely know Larrynwas an inspiration. Prince used a mean bass line a few times. Once on an award show (Larry used the line killing it live. It was more of a jam). You can hear Joni, Larry, Wonder, Santana, just a few to hear where he got his ideas, and influences, from
Bought that album in the summer of 76' "Mirror" Played it till the wheels feel off! Great year! My favorite band and album at the time... And the Raiders won the superbowl!
Much respect to Mike Douglas (and Merv Griffin). Check out the earlier You Tube videos......These guys really showcased a lot of Black entertainers as well as Comedians long before Midnight Special and Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. Peace.
These comments.... Not lip synced I got the lips. So you want to compare Larry Graham & Graham Central Station to The Commodores Kool & the Gang and such in that case I could compare also Stanley Clarke Return to Forever Jaco Pastorius and weather report evidently you don't know dit about Funk how about the group Slave or Radio or George Duke da funk.....Tina Weymouth.... JB and The Flames...The Meters...Pleasure ..Mass Production ..The Ohio Played yourself...AWB...GET LIFTED by KC and The...well you kno....Herbie Handed yoastoya.... don't funk wit my funk or you might get funked up....so get the funk outta my face.....
Ketter Betts... Abraham Laboriel...Sting.... Brick...Brass Construction....A Taste of Honey....Entwhistle....Lee..... THE GAP BAND... ZAPP... Tom Browne okay ohay I'll stop....
I think Graham is highly rated as a player and bassist innovator.. His work with Sly is hailed and legendary!! Now maybe his GSC work is overlooked/overshadowed by his Family Stone days as well as his solo work!! But those of us(there's a Lot like you and i) that were into 1970s funk, soul,r and b,jazz funk etc music are fully aware and appreciative of this group!@!!! Be cool...
I loved the Mirror, I've got a reason great vocals especially at the end of song Larry hold a falsetto note for ever, Love Larry he's also a great human being and a nice guy. Legendary!
get down wit ur bad self!! love the energy and the polished look, they always look like they're enjoying themselves when they perform. u can just feel it! wish i coulda seen them live in concert!
Larry Graham and Graham Central Station one of the greatest funk band's ever saw them in Rochester Newyork in the 70s still one of the best concerts i have ever attended
Larry Graham started a new era & phase in music. His style of playing bass was and is still over the top stupendous & great, but it also changed the emphasis on how music was constructed, in just about in every R&B group on the current scene. LARRY GRAHAM's bass playing style is copied by millions of bassist on the earth & his influential sound is still present in today's R&B & Funk & Soul music. Graham is an icon & innovator. And if he had a nickel for every bassist & music derived from L.G.'s innovativeness he'd be a billionaire many times over & over again!!!😄💯/💯
Yes, first sly, then Larry were adding the Pentacostal Church vibe grooves harmonies in they music.. Thus, the creating what I call the wave of the Funk.. First James Brown, then Sly, and then Larry..
Songs: The Jam, Your Love, It's Alright. These are the first 3 tracks off their Ain't No Bout A Doubt it album. Odd that they didn't play any off the Mirror album.
Prince and Flea from RHC agree!!!! I do too. But I also love his deep, sexy baritone oh yeah, from the Sly & the Family Stone days, to GCS, to his solo period in the 80s. Love Larry!!!!
This jam is what you call a funk medley guys. Yeah nice set and all in 4 minutes. Larry Graham central station is an unsung funk testiment but his affiliation with Sly is undeniable. Graham has the same spirit today, working with Prince. He's the best when u get down to the bass slap.
Never seen this clip before pure Funk,I remember getting "Aint' no bout a Doubt it" for Xmas of 75......Larry Graham and G.C.S always Funkin" hard..........
Bad enough that Larry's playing is so tight but he sings while playing. Ridiculous. Not fair. Trivia: after Mike Douglas show moved from Philly to LA guess who bought his house? The one and only Teddy Pendergrass.
OH-OH-they're KILLIN' IT-THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT PEOPLE! But why is the video footage and sound skipping throughout? To whoever posted this please go back and add the missing parts and then re-post this; this is just f_cking amazing! 9-16-24.
Sly Influence So Much Funk For Real....!!!!!!!! Graham needed to break out kinda the the Funkadelic and Goerge Clinton....to much FUNK for one group..........
She's originally a Broadway performer. She can be excused because she doesn't know shit about this or and type of funk. Hell, one of her first movies was "Pennies From Heaven" with Steve Martin. Can't get any more "white bread" than that. Peace.
Larry graham is to the bass what jimi Hendrix was to the guitar!

Man a lot of personnel changes in the group so early must've been the downfall of CGS and Larry's dictatorship lol Patrice Banks 'Chocolate ' is gone and The drummer who was amazing Willie is gone however, they are both on the Mirror album very bizarre
The funk box is what the band sang it was. When as a young white teen they opened for Billy Preston. I'd never seen anything like them & they made eye contact with us all. Took me years. Later to learn to play that style. Very inspirational turning point for me as a bassist. I'm a rocker, but Larry was the 1st I'd seen play like that. Blew my friend & I away!! That's how they giged, full throttle.
