C-130's have saved many a life, one of them mine. I was wounded during my 2nd tour of combat duty in Vietnam on May 17,1971. I was med-evact to the hospital ship Repose for stabilization. When I was stable enough to be flown out of country, myself and a number of wounded Marines were helicoptered to a jungle airfield near the DMZ. We were loaded onto a Marine C-130 sitting at the end of the red dirt runway. Our stretchers were all strapped in on the side racks of the airplane, IV bottles attached to the racks. When we were ready the pilots held the brakes of the C-130 and revved the engines up to full throttle. The loading ramp was kept down during take off and we could see the swirls of red dust being stirred by the 4 large propellers. With the ship shaking, engines screaming the brakes were released and we started off down the short runway, near the end the pilots pulled up into a steep climb just clearing the jungle canopy while enemy machine gun tracers could be seen flying by the plane. We kept in a steep climb, our IV bottles hanging at a 45 degree angle until we were out of gun range before leveling off., We were flown to the Philippines for treatment and then back to the states where I would spend the next 3 months in the hospital. I healed and spent 20 years in the Marine Corps before retiring. I became a California police officer and retired after a 30 career in law enforcement. I'll always remember that C-130 ride! Tom Boyte GySgt. USMC, retired Vietnam 1965-66 1970-71

You probably served with My grandpa as well! He was an infantryman in Vietnam and after several years became an aircraft mechanic before retiring from the Marine Corp as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. I always like hearing his war stories (whenever he's in the mood to talk about it anyway) and he never told me this before but he also worked for Lockheed Martin as his last employment I believe at least from what my grandmother told me. They have been married for over 50 years!!😮

I live in Houston, and you do NOT want to come over in the summer unless you like 35-40+ Celsius humid weather! Try and plan something for March of next year. This way you can enjoy Crawfish Season, and The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. San Antonio, and Austin are only 3.5 hour drive from here, and Dallas/Fort Worth is almost 4 hour drive from here.

I gave the same (but milder) warning in another comment. But Slovakian people have been coming here for a long time to live. Plus the first two weeks in June isn't too bad. They may not be able to come any other time if the kids have school. I wouldn't be too discouraging.

Yeah it was hot but you acclimate and just get used to it. I know people mean well when they say "Don't come here at that time, it's too hot!" but the comments are always the same and life continues on.

July is the 2nd worst month to visit Texas. August is the worst. In Dallas the last week of July ranged from 100-104°F which is 37.8-40°C. Plus add a couple degrees to get to the "feels like temp" which we call the heat index. It factors in humidity. In comparison, first week of August ranged from 102-106°F which is 38.9-41.1°C (plus add a few degrees for heat index). Our hottest day that month was 109°F (42.8°C). I saw some suggestions for spring...pretty high change of rainy/stormy weather. I'd suggest fall. The best weather. State fair season plus American football ❤

Then skip Texas- you'll have 45+ C PLUS humidity, and you are NOT acclimated to weather like that. Try New Mexico, Arizona, or Colorado/Utah/Wyoming instead. Arizona/NM would be warm but the humidity is a quarter of that you'll get in TX."Euro's" seem to have a challenge getting their heads around this but, EVERYTHING you can see in TX, you can see in other SW/Western states. Cattle drives, rodeos, ranch hands and well ranches. States like AZ and NM have their own take on traditional Mexican foods as well. Fun fact, but the "Texas" you see in Westerns is actually AZ, NM and UT. Saguaro cacti are native to the Sonoran Desert in northern AZ and nowhere else. That is REALLY how military people and veterans talk BTW...

When you come to Texas I HIGHLY suggest checking out some of our sports facilities. In Dallas you can tour the famous AT&T stadium where the Cowboys play as well as their practice facility in Frisco. You can also tour Texas Rangers baseball stadium. Also American Airlines Center where the Stars and Mavs play (hockey and basketball). know some colleges/universities offer tours of their sports facilities as well. Look online to see who does...most convenient options if they offer it would be Texas Longhorns in Austin. If in Dallas there is TCU, UNT, SMU. University of Houston if in Houston. I'm blanking on what city Baylor is. Texas Tech and A&M are great schools but not convenient in a 10 day trip.

Hey guys, you said you are thinking of coming to Texas in July. Do you know how hot it is in Texas in July? Overnight low temperatures can be warmer than 85F (30C) and daily high temperatures are often above 96F (36C). Also, the big 5 cities (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth) experience humidity values above 80% and UV indices of 7 or more. If you must come in summer June is usually less miserable. But in my opinion October is our most comfortable weather month. We are still in short pants and t-shirts in October. Not to discourage you, I love Texas. It is just that a lot of people don't know what they are in for when visiting Texas in the summer.

You may want to check historical day and night temperatures in the areas you want to go for that time of year... People often don't realize that the southern USA is subtropical and can get quite hot in the summer. Austin, Texas (30.25°N) is about the same latitude as Cairo, Egypt, just as hot with a lot more humidity thanks to the Gulf; if that gives you any clue as to the potential heat index.

Depending how long you are here, and if you rent a car, you might consider a season pass that will get you in all national parks. (Some of the parks are free.) I believe it would cost about $80 for the four of you for a season pass. I prefer to see the country and the parks, instead of large cities. Flying from big city to big city would become expensive. You did mention Texas. So, visiting a few western states should be interesting and enjoyable for you. If you don't mind driving long distances. There's a lot to see in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, etc. Do a lot of research, and watch videos of other people's vacations/trips to where you think you'd like to visit. Good luck.

Do you really want to go to Texas in August? It will be 105 f to 115 f on a good day. That 110 f is 43.33 c ok bring it. Drink water, lots of water. A bad day is 120 f = 48.88c, bless your heart?!

Americans and Syrian Ally was under attack... Syrian Ally was even injured. America Defends her Allies. We hope that remains true for as long as possible.

"america defends her allies" under donald trump, we abandoned the very same allies seen in this video.

@@sirmoonslosthismind yup, he specifically has made a habit of throwing his personal allies under the bus at the drop of a hat. America as a whole though usually puts in more effort

@@sirmoonslosthismind that cuts the Metal Gear Fan in me deep. Everyone would cry about the Tyranny of Distance making the biggest difference between the two scenarios. In Syria, the Rangers were already present with their Syrian allies who were even hosting American troops. Russian mercs opened fire at American positions and injured an American Ally in the presence of American forces. Although the two scenarios are so different, no standing up to Saddam sooner is still tragic. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Glad justice eventually found him.
