What ever people think of Graham Taylor. He was always a gentleman, both on and off the pitch. RIP.

The media should be ashamed of the way they treated him

If only his players displayed the same honesty on the pitch, he might not have ended his career so disappointingly.

How is any devoted Englishman supposed to qualify for the World Cup in 94? Gazza was fat, an alleged alcoholic and cocaine user, Lineker at the end of his career and was already in a goal drought, Barnes was fat and innefectual for some considerable time, then you had just OK league players nowhere near international class, dross such as Merson, Salako, Thomas, Sharpe etc. Im glad that time has showed us that it wasnt Taylor's fault, he was an honorable man and a damn good no-nonsence coach who tried to use quality players that let him and everyone down.

I'm all for freedom of the press, but the way the media treated Taylor was beyond shocking. It wasn't even banter, the attacks were horrendously personal. I wasn't around for Taylor's term as England manager and yes, you could say he was out of his depth, but My God, the attacks on him went way too far.

He tried his best, but it didn't work and he was crucified daily. The media at the time was shameful and unfair! He deserved better, he was man of honesty and integrity. RIP GT.

I am a Watford supporter and he gave me the best years of my life from the mid 70’s onwards. About 14 years ago I did some research and prior to the premier league and prior to Sky sports there were only about 7 English managers in the whole history of English football, then after the 90’s to 2010 there were over twelve English managers during that short time. So it is pretty obvious that Managers are not given enough time to do anything. To me Graham Taylor was the best, he didn’t need money to succeed. RIP Graham Taylor we miss you.

There so much expectation when it comes to England..We haven’t won anything since 1966 and only recently got to a final..I’ve seen Germany, Italy,France, & Spain winning multiple times and England fail..and a few DNQ too..l don’t blame the manager or even the players for our shortcomings..l think it’s about mentality..We simply don’t have the winning mentality or determination that Germany possess with their total of 14 WC & Euro final appearances winning 50% of them..

Rest in Peace Graham. So sorry you had to put up with so much unnecessary and undeserved abuse. Bloody despicable behaviour.

One thing you really do notice from the Cutting Edge documentary was that he certainly DID care about the England job.
