I wasn't going to upload this to RU-vid since I wasn't sure how much interest there would be for these kind of pictures. Basically, this is a series of black and white images that document the transition from older grain elevators that were located in small towns to the newer concrete and steel terminals that are often isolated industrial facilities.
Many people who didn't grow up on a grain farm in rural Canada may not be aware of what the grain elevator was to a small town. The grain elevator was a meeting place right on main street that occupied many different roles, perhaps the least important of which was the handling of grain. In fact, it was many things including a meeting place for area farmers and their kids, an intelligence hub where people learned what as going on in the area including trends, weather and agricultural knowledge. It was often the local Starbucks as well. The coffee pot was always on and the agent kept the office well supplied with powder cream and sugar cubes.
Things have changed and a world has passed on to history. Elevators have become large impersonal industrial facilities, almost always out side of towns. The are no longer welcoming hubs at the centre of rural culture.
This is the way of things and should be remembered but not lamented.
