the submarine was one of three that broke away from a tug in a storm when being towed away for scrapping. The other two went ashore on the other side of damhead creek and were cut apart down to the keels which are lying side by side and can be seen at low tide. Efforts to dismantle the remaining sub were hindered by its position on the saltings. We used to be able to go to it by dinghy and walk along the pressure casing to where the bow had been cut off. The engines of the three subs had already been removed for use as generators at the cement works upriver before the hulks were sold for scrap.
I could literally watch these videos all day! I think you could easily do a video double as long. I know the editing is painful, but it’s very interesting stuff! Thanks
Very interesting video guys, the lower levels of Grain Tower looked to have no Graffiti which is amazing! The German U-boat is also very impressive. Good work :)
I worked at Berry Wiggins for a few years, first job after leaving school in 1971. A couple of us walked to the end of the jetty one lunch break, I seem to remember at one point the deck boards changed direction.
Absolutely amazing!! Si-finds has gone out into the the u-boat in one of his video, it’s really interesting. Oh I would not have the guts to walk on the jetty haha!
Great video guys, I really enjoyed the tour around the grain tower, you're a braver man than I to wade into that basement! Absolutely blown away to find out about that U-Boat wreck 🤯 I know it's not an easy task but wondered if Sealand was on your list? Anyway thanks for a great vid!
Thanks!! Sealand is certainly an interesting place but I think without express permission it would be difficult. Would love to see more of the seaforts even from the water though. Check out our video on Red Sands Seaforts :)
Ive been there many times, with many adventutes over the years. Grain is a fascinating place. Did you walk down to the power station outlet? Theres another fort down there. Also...someone told me that there are many tunnels under Grain Coastal Park. If you walk WEST from the car park, instead of east into the medway, the first beach past the dragons teeth has the remains of the de-guessing cable under the sand which stretched across the thames to the little military museum near the cafe on Canvey.
there are dragons teeth tank traps and several pill boxes at hope gap which is just down the road from where i live plus we got newhaven napoleonic fort or palmestons follies as their known next town along from me too. well worth a visit. its also haunted like most of them are. im a member of newhaven fort and ive had some unnerving feelings in certain parts of it. theres also signs that warn you too. so check it out guys.
@@BeyondthePoint last time i was up the fort parts of it were closed due to maintenance work going on but i believe it is open now so up to you guys. ive always fancied living there as well, but not til the ghosts have buggered off!
@@BeyondthePoint I realise that, i'm just having you on. My Dad worked at Grain Power Station, and my Uncle at Kingsnorth. I miss the smell of the Medway, sounds weird I know. Great to see all this again, we have no history here in New Zealand, sure it's beautiful, but very boring on the human history front. Thanks for the vid.
@@Tight--LiNeZNice, we recently did a boat trip to Fort Darnet and the Kingsnorth power station coal jetty you might like. There's pics on our Facebook and might have a video coming on it at somepoint
