That depends on how you define it, but generally all grain sizes make up the "soil" in a sense. Particles that pass the 75 microns just constitute the finest particles, like very fine sand, silt and clay.
It consider as coarsed grained, if the weight pass 75micron greater than 50%. The soil can be classified as fine grained. And hydrometer test to be used to determine silt and clay particles.
generally the grain size distribution of particles that are below 100 mm . the particles that are below fifty one microns ... sedimentation analysis .....is preferred such particles neither float nor settle in the treatment plants and cause .... hardness due the presence of metallic ions present vinod khanna...... .
