I've heard just about everything Gram Parsons recorded from his teenage folk years onwards; Sweetheart of the Rodeo when he was with the Byrds, his two albums with the incredible Flying Burrito Brothers, and the two solo albums with Emmylou Harris and Elvis' band. He made you feel he lived each song he sang. Incredible ability to express emotion. His life was quite sad and very short, but his music lives on; as you said it still sounds fresh. Cosmic Cowboy!

I version I know best is by the hard rock band Nazareth, if I am remembering correctly they were Scottish. I'm also familiar with Roy Orbison's version too. Graham Parsons made a big dent in music history in a short period. Emmylou Harris is an iconic legend that's for good reason.

Gram is worth exploring. He has some amazing songs, not to mention he is almost singlehandedly responsible for the Stones' country phase, being a companion of Keith in the early-mid 70's.

I dislike country music, but I like Gram Parsons country rock sound. He has a lovely voice too. I came across his album, "GP", in a record store years ago and bought it on a whim, not having heard of him. Was I glad I did because those songs are sooo good. I recommend giving that album a listen. I had a friend who was an expert on country music and had a radio show. He hadn't heard of Gram Parsons, and he loved the album, borrowed it, and played it on the show. Even wanted to keep the record, haha.

Pure genius of Gram to use Elvis’ TCB band. You need to remember at the time that anything to do with Elvis was naff and uncool to many in the rock music scene. Yet it worked splendidly gave the songs are perfect setting and what was old became new again.

You should check out Emmy Lou's song "Boulder to Birmingham" which she wrote as a tribute to Gram.

Watch First Aid Kit tribute to Emmylou Harris at Polar Prize event. They refer to Emmylou's relationship with Gram Parsons parallel to Johnny Carson and June Carter--brings Emmylou to tears.

They used Elvis’s TCB band for the session. That was James Burton on guitar. They later worked with Emmy- Lou in the hot band

Delve into Emmylou Harris. You won't be disappointed. She does a duet with John Denver called Montana Skies. Beautiful harmonies. She also is one of the three on the album Trios with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt.

Great reaction, (as usual). Swedish group First Aid Kit does a song called Emmylou. It's about Gram and Emmylou. Their live version brings Emmylou to tears.

This was released after Gram's death. Gram was the first to give Emmylou a break and sing background for him. She recorded many tracks with Gram. The movie "Gram Theft Parsons" was based on his death.

I first recall hearing this by the Everly Brothers but also remember many others covering this song. Such an angst filled song that just appealed to my poor "first love" broken teenage heart. Was sure I would never love again, oh the pain of it all.😞😥. Man you couldn't pay me a million dollars to go back to being a teenager. I was such a drama queen.😅😅 Great as always guys. Thanks to you both and to Richard for the request.✌🤗

Interesting story about Graham Parsons' death. After dying of an overdose, his friends carried out his final wish. They stole his body and took him to Joshau Tree National Park and cremated him on a large funeral pyre.

Big Problem. His friends botched his cremation. They were drunk/stoned and didn't have enough wood and gasoline. His wishes to have his ashes scattered in Joshua Tree National Park never happened. His family took the body home

@markalumbaugh2756 Yes, his friends did not do a great job, but they did try. LOL! And yes his dad took him to Louisiana.

@@marythacker4802 Gram grew up in Waycross Georgia but he was born in Winter Haven Florida , and Florida is where step father Bob Parsons had him intered. Sadly David Myers biog 'Twenty Thousand Roads' is no longer in print , thats the definitive Gram biog, there are others , John Rogans 'Timeless Flyght' Vol 2 has around 300 pages on Gram aand is still in print as are several other books and a damn sight more accurate than the many Gram myths peddled on forums

First recorded by the Everly Brothers. Boudleaux and Felice Bryant who wrote this, wrote a lot of the Everly Brothers records. Emmylou Harris really great country crossover artist. Boulder to Birmingham recounts her feelings of grief in the years following the death of Gram Parsons.

Emmylou did a duet with Roy Orbison you would like, too. It's called That Loving You Feeling Again and it won a Grammy, Roy's first.

I know the Nazareth version, but wasn’t aware that Roy did it, or Gram Parsons/Emmy-Lou Harris had covered it. It’s obviously one of those songs that transcends time. The lyrics are not dated. A great song.

Apparently Nazareth heard Gram's version and decided to do it themselves.

gram parsons and johnny rivers covered and improved every song they covered. not that the songs were bad before. they were good. parsons and rivers just made them so much better. plus the original creators rec'd wonderful royalties. so it is/was a win win relationship with creator and coverer.
