Gran Turismo 2 Intro - US Version 1.0

For a while, I thought all 3 versions of the US release of Gran Turismo 2 had the same, exact intro. However, I found out recently that is wrong; Version 1.0's GT2 intro is slightly different. It still does the same sequence while playing "My Favorite Game" by The Cardigans, but there's different parts of the song being played over the sequence.
I'm going to guess the change was due to PD wanting the song to flow better with the footage. In which, I think version 1.1's use of "My Favorite Game" is better than 1.0 here.

The Cutting Room Floor has pointed this out, drat! tcrf.net/Gran_Turismo_2/Revisional_Differences To further elaborate the difference between this and version 1.1. This intro utilizes the first final part of the "My Favorite Game" song while later NTSC versions use the first two parts of the song. ----- Also, here's my opinion on it. Despite everyone in the comments section seemingly preferring this version. I actually like version 1.1's intro more because it has the first and 2nd parts of the song. and honestly, I think they flow better with the earlier parts. For instance the verse at 1:26, the instruments in the back are too slow beat in comparison to the racing footage happening. That was used better in v1.1 during the earlier part of the intro because it played during when the Honda Civic RM was braking before taking off as the video switched to faster racing footage.

I prefer this 1.0 version of this intro over the later edit. I don’t get why they changed it especially because this one matches the visuals a lot better

yea mate. This is the same intro I had in my GT2 and I looked for so many times but never found this intro. Finally I found and your right, The sound and video moviment is perfect aligned in this version.

This is my favourite version of this opening. The cinematics fits so well with the music, and the end bro, GOOSEBUMPS. Good memories from GT2.

I KNEW THERE WAS A DIFFERENT VERSION OF THIS INTRO THAT I REMEMBERED! I was having such a severe Mandela Effect with all the other videos I just knew I remembered this version from my childhood thank you 🙏🏼

i genuinely honestly believe the video and audio flow so much better together in this version. ESPECIALLY how the very last shot cuts out right as the last guitar note hits. i WISH they never changed it and more people knew about this original, masterpiece version.

Yes, PAL got the Faithless Remix version while NTSC had the original.

Too bad this version of the game was the most bug-infested. This version of the intro is a bit of a banger compared to the one in the later versions.

(before video) Yes, yes, yes. I remember this. It's cut-clipped to have the song play to the end rather than fade out towards the end. In all due honesty, I'd rather just make a longer intro video to fit the entire song. Oh, but, that'd never happen due to some of the songs used being lengthy (My Favourite Game is over four and half minutes long so there is that to consider). 2:10 That S-curve footage...will haunt me until SSR11 somehow gets restored...grrr... It's been done, at least with GT4, a full song video with the intro montage footage, and fan creations with other songs, so I don't see why it hasn't been done for GT2. This song is a gem.

Just yesterday I found out that Gran Turismo 2 had different edits for the opening. I remember the 1.0 version from when I was a kid but when the disc got messed up and I replaced with the greatest hits version, I noticed the difference but couldn't find this opening on the internet at the time. I just accepted that it was the Neslon Mandela affect and kept moving. My mind is blown that I'm not crazy and that there really is two different edits.

HAHAHA BRO SAME THING WITH ME. Only difference is I noticed it right away cause I knew every bit of the 1.0 intro (since I kept replaying it out of love and getting hype as a kid) before my disc got messed up and got the newer version. It got on my nerves so badly that I even asked my dad if the new CD was broken cause the intro wasn't playing right lol. Glad I found this version again though.

Every time I watched the GT2 opening on youtube it was the other version, and I always felt strange about the fade out at the end. I was sure it didn't end in a fade out when I had this game back in the 00s. Today I found this video, and now it makes sense. I had version 1.0. :)

I always loved how the exhaust note of the Ford Focus rally car at 2:04 matched up to the final verse of the song.

Yeah, there is a difference. You'd have to be very familiar with the song in question to know that there is no part where she sings "And I lied".

It's common for who is not interested too much in the intro I saw the full intro 3-4 times maybe in 15 years and the rest of the times I just skip with start I'm not that perfectionist to consider a 100 percent of the game percentage including an intro I like the intro don't get me wrong but I'm not that obsessed to watch it everytime personally.

I’ll admit, the camera work and the parts of the intro song go together so well, but I find that you can sometimes hear the audio cut and switch to a different part of the song. It’s hard to explain.

Where can I get a copy of GT2 that has this version of the intro? This was my childhood right here! I literally just bought a non-Greatest Hits version on eBay and to my utter disappointment, it still had the second version of the intro included. 😔

I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, the Greatest Hits version is V1.2. Version 1.0 was the first initial release of GT2, when released as a black label. With that said, I got my copy of GT2 v1.0 on Amazon, but eBay is honestly still a good place to search. It's either that or seeing if there's a retro game shop or thrift stores in your area. Though before doing that, you shouldn't just be buying any copy of GT2 you see listed. You need to look at the "SC" number listed on the game; which is how you identify ps1 discs. For reference, GT2 v1.0 copy's sc code is "SCUS-94455" for the simulation disc and 94488 for the arcade disc. Or at least that's how it is on my copy. To note: If you intend on playing GT2, I wouldn't bother buying version 1.0 just because you like the intro more on that. Version 1.0 has a bunch of bugs on it including a gamesave corrupting bug for setting records on the 400m runs on machine test, plus there's an A.I. swap error in the endurance events where you can end up racing against a LeMans race car in a race where you can only enter with a car under 295 hp. The version you bought is honestly the most complete version as it fixed those issues.

Thank you so much for this very helpful information and guidance. Yeah, I read here too that the V 1.0 discs were actually full of bugs. I guess I would just have it for collection purposes. Interestingly, when I checked my discs, it has those exact same “SCUS” numbers, only it’s switched around. SCUS-94455 is on the Arcade Mode disc, while SCUS-94488 is on the Simulation Mode disc. Are you sure you have that vice versa order of numbers for your discs? For reference, the discs are also in color, as opposed to B&W for the Greatest Hits version.

@@AEscala024 No, I'm got the numbers mixed up between arcade and simulation. Also my mistake, I misread your comment; I thought you said you bought the actual Greatest Hits version. Okay, I made a mistake; apparently the scus numbers don't differ on the release of GT2. I just checked all 3 of my copies (V1.0, 1.1, & 1.2), they each have the same number. With that said, I can tell you that you actually own version 1.1 if it still has the newer intro. It was GT2's first North America patch, which is the one I grew up with. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how to spot if a copy sold online is version 1.0 or not. I looked at both my v1.0 and 1.1 copies and they look so similar to each other. All I can say is just search Gran Turismo 2 for sale online and try to see if they list the release date of the disc or they know what version it is.
