The pixelation is just the video quality/wrong emulator settings. Game looks good on both CRT and modern displays so it's not that, come on. The game was designed for 1080i on console!
The shift from 2nd to 3rd through the H pattern is amazing. Most games just animate forward and backward motion. Some games have the hand touch the gear knob pretending to shift.
@@funalkyI was amazed as how they did animate the legs hitting the exact pedals, from animating the leg using the clutch to even showing when we press the accelerator or brake
textures may be low res but the animations are top from the hand movement to the damn shifter, footwork and the driver looking where he's turning. now that's detail from an 18-19 year old game
i personally love the way the textures look. it takes a lot of work and skill to make these textures, and the techniques that go into squeezing as much quality into as little ram is beautiful.
To all those admiring the detail, these animations are only visible in roofless cars when driving on a track solo. The game cannot render these animations when more than one car on the track. During a normal race, the driver is replaced with a lower quality model and all convertibles have the roof up to hide this fact.
In some way, that makes the detail even more impressive. The devs went out of their way to implement these details for a mode most people will probably not even play that much, and for only a few cars. Seems like the only reason they didn't implement it across the entire game was hardware limitations.
Were* but even for 2004 standards, some aspects of gran turismo were and STILL are utter sh*t! GT7 has gorgeous looking car models yes, but some tracks literally looked like upscaled tracks from GT4 and the fact that there still isn't any damage physics is pathetic. The rain effects are embarrassing and I just love how they don't even bother with putting NPCs anymore because they are too lazy to bother to make actual NPCs that don't look like straight out of 2004.
Actually, for it's time it had mindblowing graphics. This video is using emulator and has some settings messed up, I remember it being much more polished when playing on PS2 and on crt tv
@@davidr6865 Bruh... did you really just say GT7 is "incredible"? I mean, you're entitled to your opinion, but it sounds like it's your first Gran Turismo not gonna lie. The economy isn't the only thing wrong with that game...
@@JohnDoeWasntTaken did you try the VR?. That in itself is un-freaking believable. I have to admit snap oversteer in every car is pretty trash. They need to nail down these tire physics
The attention to detail is amazing considering there was no cockpit view. They didn't need to do such complex animations with changing hand position or gear change, because people in most cases wouldn't notice.
The more I look at this and the more I’m amazed at how good arm movements and hand positioning is, really a shame we didn’t get a cockpit view in that game
People are focusing on the shifter and the hands. But don’t neglect the driver. Turning their head to face the road or look in the mirror when spun around and their shoulders move left and right from inertia.
And one thing I always noticed with convertibles: if you installed a racing gearbox, for some reason the driver's animations didn't work when you shifted. At least that was the case with the Alfa Romeo Duetto 1600...that's why I always kept the stock gearbox, even if the whole rest of the car was extremely modified. Or the car raised the roof or something, I don't remember very well now, it's been over 10 years since last time I played.
Ps2 is legendary! The New generations lost some of that aura of simplicity and geniallity! Ps3 get some, and ps4 have greatest games, like RDR2, ETC... But ps2 is a thing by its own... 2004, 2005 and 2006 games, Gold years, finest wines😅!
every era has its gems. 2023 some publishers are extremely bloated monsters. FromSoft has stayed strong since PS1 era. Creative Assembly has been in decline since Rome 2. Blizzard destroyed Warcraft 3 and is insanely greedy like Activision. Larian Studios has only gotten stronger since their early 2000s start now holding the reigns of D&D. Many 'indie' gems throughout the years.
Holy fuck I knew the steering wheel moves in convertible cars but the shift stick having proper movement just blew my mind, not even modern games have such detail like The Crew 2 for example
My favoruite was the Pescarolo, they rendered the open cockpit awesomely. Throw on some softs in the race setup menu, then change them to hards at the race menu and youll get a good challenge.
Es una animación perfecta y muy agradable, se nota mucho más natural a pesar de las limitaciones gráficas. Una animación así estaría genial a la hora de conducir coches de calle.
This is why I always say GT4 is the most complete racing game of all time. The series never got any better than this, it felt like a classic Gran Turismo game but with a massive car list and visuals that still look impressive for it's time.
this alone make the goat GT4 even more of a goat wow, the fact that they are actually planning to do interior view with working shift and steering and fuk even leg animation polyphony digital man i tell you, they will make any perfectionist cry of joy
They fully animated the shifter even though you would normally never see that in game. Just shows how much love and care was but into this game. GT4 is the goat.
It's a shame that you can't remove the roof of the car in races. That made cars like the SLK Kompressor and the Copen active top version look like a hard top car
2020s Racing games: The guy just touches the shifter because we needed to (Insert every excuse they make) Gran Turismo 4: We animated the shifter because we are the REAL Driving Simulator
Most people who originally played GT4 back in the day can't describe enough how eye candy these graphics were. May not look much today. But back then we were just blown to bits at the sheer awesomeness.
Other thing I've notived eversince playing from 2006. Driver does cltuch and press the gas pedal. Look the those legs! The shifting in proper gear too. The hand movements. Truly ahead of its time.
