WHY IS GT7 SO IMPORTANT? - • Why Gran Turismo 7 is ...
While we're working on our full review of Gran Turismo 7, I had the opportunity to do a direct comparison between gameplay on the standard PlayStation DualSense Controller and the Fanatec GT DD Pro.
Other than being familiar with the track, I'm jumping into this with absolutely zero experience on the game with either the wheel or the controller, so let's see exactly what difference the wheel and pedals make over the controller!

instead of the left stick on the controller for steering, try changing it to 'motion'... it will take a couple laps to get used to but it's so much more fun.. try it and see :)

I need to do that!
@LOOKINVERTED
@LOOKINVERTED 2 года назад
@@eL_K_Dee I can confirm that too. I'm paraplegic and a permanent wheelchair user and have always been a little frustrated that the more affordable commercial steering wheel products never seem to have the appropriate analogue levers on the wheel for throttle and brake placement (where you'd normally have the gear shifters so need an additional analogue set beside them). So since GT Sport I'd navigated to using the DualSense's motion capability for steering as an alternative. As 'eL K Dee' says it takes a bit of getting used to but once you've driven with it for a sustained period it feels pretty realistic and intuitive, far better than the tiny thumbstick which causes constant over-corrections (as he was demonstrating in this video through no fault of his own), only drawback being the lack of force feedback of course (though the haptic feedback certainly goes some way in "feeling" that car rotation - along with the adaptive triggers (which you don't get with affordable steering wheel pedals so they've something over those in that respect). Highly recommended, I'll never go back now, at least until I can afford a much more expensive setup from "SimAbility" - who.. 'makes hand controls for simulation racing gamers with disabilities who want to go beyond using gamepads but need alternatives to standard wheel-and-pedals setups' (as their advertising blurb suggests).
@eL_K_Dee
@eL_K_Dee 2 года назад
@@LOOKINVERTED it's an inexpensive alternative to a rig and also if say you arew a casual gamer and dont just do racing and are at some moment too lazy to pull out the wheel and all, this motion steering alternative is a quick solution for more of a 'feel'.. This gyro tech has been around since the PS3.. but we barely see games use the hardware to it's fullest potential!
@LOOKINVERTED
@LOOKINVERTED 2 года назад
@@eL_K_Dee Absolutely, don't disagree really, thankfully these motion sensing controllers are becoming utilised and incorporated more & more despite them being in circulation for a while and already within a lot of basic tech. I suppose we ultimately all want choices and options don't we, solutions that cater for varying functions and abilities and that to be considered when programming. It's an exciting time for tech with these innovations in gaming (shame the world's turned to shit with all the collateral damage such as the semi-conductor shortage otherwise everyone could get involved). I'm thankful I managed to obtain a PS5, particularly with the adaptive triggers - absolutely love those, though granted you can use the motion thingamajig on PS4. The SimAbility route I mentioned was more about being one of my ultimate wish lists since until recently I couldn't enjoy racing games properly at all before now. To be fair, you're right, it's not as high up on my list as it was.

@mikesanders5433 2 года назад
@@YorkshireBoy best au to describe it mate is the ability to better control the cars. Notably (for me at least) being able to modulate the steering and accelerator/brake input to a far more accurate and smoother application. I struggle on controller to be smooth with steering input (I tend to make lots of repeated jerky inputs into the steering and my accelerator/braking application is blunt and very on/off). With the wheel I’m smoother on the steering with much less input into adjustments and for the pedals I’m finally able to modulate the throttle and braking properly. For me it feels much more rewarding

I'm a so called 'alien' on Gran Turismo, and i've qualified for a GT Sport live event using a controller. Gran Turismo is always well balanced, so if you're only looking for pace, there's no real need to upgrade to a wheel. The main drawback to a controller from a competitive perspective is that wear your tires out much faster than on the wheel, which can be an issue with high tire wear multipliers online.

I started to play with the controller and the G923 switching back and forth, GT7 has the best controller implementation of any racing game yet, and I tried a couple on PS5 already, the pushback from the triggers is helping a ton in using just a portion of the gas or the break pedals. The additional haptic feedback in the controller itself helps a lot with “reading” the traction of the car as you literally feel if you are on the curb or about to slide.

one key factor in how easy it is to use a controller is how much input lag you have at your display/monitor. the higher the input lag, the more you have to resort to 'tap tap tap'ing the left stick instead of making longer, continuous inputs. when the lag is near-zero like with one of the newer LG tv's for example, you can be much smoother with the controller. either way the wheel is obviously superior, but just throwing that out there - if you're limited to a controller (for cost reasons or space reasons or whatever the case) getting your input lag down can really help a ton.

The controller has a lot of baked in assists you can't turn off and gives you a lot more stability. You can hold the stick at a fixed deflection and watch how many small micro-corrections the front wheels are making through a corner in a replay, even when the steering wheel in the cabin doesn't reflect it. The stick is more of a request of how much you want to turn, and the code behind constantly hunts for grip and makes changes to do that for you, likely faster than you could do manually with a wheel. It makes sense as it's Gran Turismo on a console, and the controller needs to be competitive.

On your last lap with the wheel, you carried more speed through the turn at 24 second mark, and were able to stay ahead of your ghost car. Without that ghost car in front of you, your driving inputs seem to indicate you were looking further down the track at your entry, apex, and exit points. When you look further down the track, you drive smoother, with less corrections, which makes you slightly faster. I think the ghost car automatically shifts your mind in to multi-car driving situation where you are looking close to the car on the track for passing opportunities than when you have an open track ahead.

A racing wheel makes a world of difference! If you only use a controller you are missing out on so much more fun! If you only have a PS4 and wanna try racing with a good wheel for cheap you can buy the old PS3 racing wheel (Driving Force GT) for about under $100 and get a adapter (about $40) and have a awesome immersive experience. If you have a PS5 the G29 is a great wheel to start out with. If u wanna go all out the Fanatec wheels are fantastic. But the Logitech wheels are a great entry wheel that will give you are far better immersive experience than using a controller.

Should of looked at average lap times as well to compare the two. I think overall the wheel and pedals had a faster average and it is smoother and better inputs. Gt7 is one of those games that's fun with either. No other racing game is as fun with a pad bevause of the time events and stuff you still feel like ypy are playing for a reason lol. Also rhe ps5 controller truely improves this stuff also for sure. Pretty cool to see how consistently good both are controller and wheel looks like controller players can now play with wheel players which is good. This is how games should be optimal and optimized for both because people don't think we have more disabled people than you would think playing sometimes you can't always use the wheel. That goes for me also my hips, back everything lower on me is in bad shape so I use the controller sometimes and I'm really enjoying this game for sure lol.

I thought it was interesting to see these lap times with the loadcell pedals. I remember the video you made some time ago where you compared a logitech G29 with a DD wheel and load cell pedals and one of the takeaways from that video was that your lap times were far more consistent with the loadcell. I think most of your laps were within 0.4 seconds with loadcell. We didn't see that here though. I haven't bought GT7 yet but I'm sure I will eventually just really bummed there is no VR or triple screen support. Even GT4 on PS2 had triple screens. It would have been awesome if they let you run triple 1080p with this.

This is one of those situations where if you have the setup and money to get both the wheels and pedals, you should definitely go for it. The level of immersion exponentially grows once you play a racing game like this. I've always played on a controller due to not having a proper setup but i knew that once GT7 came out, i was going to do it right. No regrets. I was pretty good on controller and I'm even faster on my full wheel/pedal/shifter setup since you can make minor corrections that are not simply possible using a thumbstick or the triggers on a controller. Currently all gold with all assists off/hard AI. 15 books in and the first 2 licenses all gold. NGL though...the last license test with the supra for A was tough. Barely squeezed gold on that one :D

Quick note on Motion Control. I did try it but have never gotten along with it. I find it really disorienting with no friction or force feedback. It’s always been that way for me ever since Mario Kart on Wii. I honestly figured most people preferred using the thumb stick for steering but apparently there’s plenty of people who prefer using motion. Will have to check it out in more detail in another video and see if I can adapt to it. Should be interesting!

When GT Sport came out I decided to finally treat myself to a G29 wheel and pedals. It was definitely a game changer. I think with a controller I'd be in the mid area of A rated driver. With the wheel I'm in the low A+ rating. I do still use the controller for single player mode, but when I race online and want to be as fast as possible, my wheel is a MUST. I'd love to upgrade to a Fanatec but I just don't know if I can justify spending nearly £1000 on one.

@AlbertoFortuny
@AlbertoFortuny 2 года назад
@@rdb223 Yeah the resolution (4K) does not change, only HDR is turned off. It will be better for video capture and for the most amount of people to see the video normally. HDR is changing how the color gets reported to the screen from the source console or PC. It will look fine if you have an HDR display since it knows how to interpret that signal. But this breaks down when you capture that output and then upload it to RU-vid where you might not be watching the video on an HDR capable display. I believe there is a way to upload HDR video to RU-vid but it would still look washed out if you are viewing it on a non-HDR display.

I'll give you my 2 cents since I'm that guy. Been playing since GT1 on controller never tried a wheel once other than classic arcade games. I just sent it on a TM 248 and spent around $150 on a decent sled from Amazon, attached an old seat from my WRX to it since I had it in the garage. I really like the ps5 controller with this game, I feel like it's incredibly immersive with the triggers and vibration you really get another dimension of connection to the car and what it's doing. Now on to the wheel. I've used it for about a week and I can definitely say i have zero regrets on my $500 investment. I can really see how people fall down this rabbit hole of upgrades to their rig. The learning curve is a bit steep I won't pretend it isn't. I'm a casual racer at best but the amount of fun factor this adds to the game is really worth relearning the dynamics, I'm having fun learning how to race all over again as I get used to the setup. I would say if you can part with a few hundred bucks right now just do it, you'll enjoy. 🤙

I played most of the GT series with a controller. Bought a wheel for GT5 but I was way faster with controller. I began to play GT sport at release with controller and stop playing it for a few years after finishing the solo part. A few months ago I decided to buy a g29 to play VR mode and master it before GT7's release. I mostly played time trials many hours a day and couldn't beat my controller times for almost a week. Within the next two weeks I beat all the online trophies and finally got the plat. GT has always been great with controllers and I think the haptic vibrations of the dualsense are a great addition and feel really good, but when you'll get used to the wheel you will probably have a hard time moving back to controller ;) And by the way, Gt sport's VR mode is absolutely mind blowing with a wheel! Hope they will do something with GT7 and PSVR2 🤩
